A birthday photo prompt is a copy-ready instruction you paste into Gemini or ChatGPT with one clear photo, to turn it into a birthday portrait, poster or card that keeps the face.

Below are 40 birthday photo prompts in six groups by person, milestone and style, a fill-in master template, and the fixes for a changed face or a misspelled name.

On October 16, 2026, I ran 7 of these prompts in ChatGPT Plus on one real photo of two people: all 7 images spelled the requested text right, and 5 of 7 added text nobody asked for.

Copy the master template, replace every bracket, and paste it with your photo:

Use the person in the uploaded photo and keep their face, skin tone, hairstyle and [glasses or other features] exactly as they are. Create a [style] birthday portrait of [person and milestone], wearing [outfit], in [setting and decor]. Add [props]. Light the scene with [lighting]. Frame it as a [camera and framing]. Add the exact text "[text on image]" in [font style] at [position]. Aspect ratio [ratio].

Before you paste

  • One sharp, front-facing, well-lit photo of the birthday person, with nobody else in the frame; a group prompt takes one photo per person or one group photo
  • The milestone age, spelled exactly as it should appear on the image
  • The exact spelling of the name, inside quotation marks
  • The shape you need: 4:5 for a feed post, 9:16 for a story, 2:3 for a printed card

What’s in the Birthday Prompt Template

The master template has 10 slots, listed below in the order they appear in it: the photo instruction keeps the face, the person and props carry the birthday, and the rest set the look.

The Example column holds invented sample values for a fictional person, Maya, so you can see one filled slot at a time:

Slots in the master birthday prompt (sample values, fictional person)

Sources: sample values for a fictional person; slot order adapted from the photorealistic template in Google’s Gemini image generation guide, checked Oct 2026.

The order follows Google’s photo-real template: shot type, subject, setting, light, then camera angle and lens. Write the scene as full sentences.

Say what you want rather than what you do not: “a plain cream backdrop”, not “no balloons.” Google calls this a semantic negative prompt.

The photo instruction is the slot people skip, and it is the one that keeps the face. Name the features and say they “remain completely unchanged,” as Google’s detail-preservation template does.

OpenAI lists three recommended sizes for its GPT Image models: 1024×1024 square, 1536×1024 wide and 1024×1536 tall. The API’s tall size, 1024×1536, is a 2:3 shape; crop it to the shape your feed needs.

How to Use These Birthday Photo Editing Prompts in Gemini or ChatGPT

The prompts work as edits of your own photo, so the order is: open the image tool, upload, paste, fill, then refine.

  1. Open the image tool. In Gemini, select “Create images” (the banana icon) from the tools menu. In ChatGPT, open a new chat; free accounts can upload images and create them.
  2. Upload one photo. Use a sharp, front-facing, well-lit shot; a group prompt takes one photo per person or one group photo.
  3. Paste a prompt and replace every bracket. Keep the identity sentence at the start.
  4. Check the aspect ratio line. Write it in words at the end (“with 2:3 aspect ratio”).
  5. Send, then refine in the same chat with “Keep everything the same, but change…” instead of rewriting the prompt. Start each new prompt in a fresh chat: in my test, a name from an earlier prompt carried over.
  6. Check before you post. Zoom in on the face, count the people, and read the name letter by letter.

To add props to a photo without restyling it, use Google’s edit pattern: “Using the provided image of me, please add a small birthday cake with three lit candles on the table in front of me. Keep everything else unchanged.”

If ChatGPT is your main tool, the ChatGPT photo editing prompts collection covers edits beyond birthdays in the same paste-and-refine format.

How I Tested These Birthday Prompts in ChatGPT Plus

On October 16, 2026, I ran 7 of the 40 prompts in my ChatGPT Plus account, one run each, on one real photo of a woman and a man who both agreed to appear here.

  • Setup: one photo, one chat, the 7 prompts one after another; each returned one image within a 75-90 second wait.
  • Prompt text: as printed here, brackets filled with the page’s defaults (“Maya”, “ALEX”), plus one added line in front naming which person to use. Each image below sits under its prompt.

What this test does not show:

  • Gemini was not tested, and each prompt ran once, in one chat, with the added line.
  • The couple prompt ran on one photo of both people, not two photos.
  • The times are approximate; I measured no free-plan limit or cost.
  • The WebP copies on this page drop the Content Credentials the PNG files carry.

Example: Maya’s Birthday Prompt, Filled In

Here is the master template filled with invented sample data for a fictional person, Maya, turning 30:

Use the person in the uploaded photo and keep her face, skin tone, hairstyle and glasses exactly as they are. Create a photorealistic, editorial magazine-style birthday portrait of a woman celebrating her 30th birthday, wearing an emerald satin midi dress, in a studio with a gold and black balloon arch. Add a two-tier white cake with lit candles and gold number balloons "3" and "0", placed left to right. Light the scene with a soft key light and a warm rim light. Frame it as a waist-up portrait at eye level, 85mm lens, shallow depth of field. Add the exact text "Happy 30th, Maya" in gold script across the top. Aspect ratio 4:5.
SlotSample valueWhy it is there
Photo instructionkeep her face, skin tone, hairstyle and glasses exactly as they areNames the features to keep, so the model has less room to redraw them
Propsgold number balloons “3” and “0”, placed left to rightQuoting each digit and naming the order makes the order explicit

Why three slots in Maya’s prompt are written the way they are (sample data)

Sources: sample data, fictional person.

If the balloons still came back as “03”, the follow-up would be: “Keep everything the same, but swap the two number balloons so they read 3 then 0 from left to right.”

Made in ChatGPT Plus from Maya’s prompt on October 16, 2026 (real photo, both people’s permission): “Happy 30th, Maya” spelled right, balloons “3” then “0”.

The same pattern runs through every prompt below: the slots stay, the values change.

Birthday Photo Prompts for Girls and Women (Aesthetic, Pastel, Luxury)

This group holds 10 prompts, from soft pastel studio looks to luxury glam, each with brackets for the age, outfit and colors you will want to change.

Pastel balloon studio portrait

Use the person in the uploaded photo and keep her face, skin tone and hairstyle exactly as they are. Create a photorealistic birthday portrait of her celebrating her [25th] birthday in a soft pink studio with a pastel balloon garland in blush, lilac and mint. She wears [a white puff-sleeve dress] and holds a small heart-shaped cake with lit candles. Soft, even light, waist-up, eye level. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: the three balloon colors to match the party theme.

Woman in a white dress holding a heart-shaped cake among pastel balloons
Made in ChatGPT Plus from this prompt on October 16, 2026 (real photo, both people’s permission): it added “Happy 25th Birthday,” which the prompt did not ask for.

Aesthetic vintage film birthday

Keep the face and features of the woman in the uploaded photo completely unchanged. Turn the photo into a vintage film snapshot from her [25th] birthday party: warm grain, slightly faded colors and a soft direct flash. She sits at a table with a frosted cake, paper party hats and fairy lights behind her. Candid half-body framing, 35mm film look. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: the era feel, from a disposable-camera snapshot to an instant-photo print.

For the full retro look beyond one birthday shot, try the retro flashback photo prompts.

Luxury gold-and-black glam portrait

Use the uploaded photo as the identity reference and keep her face, skin tone and hair exactly the same. Create a luxury glam birthday portrait: she wears [a black sequin gown], seated on a velvet chair beside a gold and black balloon wall, a three-tier cake with gold leaf and a gold number balloon "[30]". Dramatic key light, glossy editorial magazine style. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: the gown color; keep the gold so the balloons and cake still match.

Candlelit wish close-up

Keep the face of the woman in the uploaded photo exactly as it is. Create an intimate close-up of her about to blow out the candles on a small birthday cake, eyes closed, making a wish. Candlelight is the only light, warm on her face, with a dark, softly blurred background. Close-up at eye level, 85mm lens, shallow depth of field. Photorealistic. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: “eyes closed” to “smiling at the camera” if the closed eyes read as a different person.

Garden florals at golden hour

Use the person in the uploaded photo and keep her face, skin tone and hairstyle unchanged. Place her in a blooming garden at golden hour for her [21st] birthday, wearing [a flowing floral sundress], holding a bouquet, with a small cake on a wooden table beside her. Warm low sun behind her as a rim light. Full-body shot from slightly below eye level. Photorealistic. Aspect ratio 2:3.

Swap: the flowers for the season: tulips in spring, sunflowers in late summer.

Dark aesthetic moody portrait

Keep her face and features from the uploaded photo completely unchanged. Create a dark, moody birthday portrait: she wears [a black velvet dress] against a deep burgundy backdrop, holding a black cake with a single tall candle. Low-key cinematic lighting with one hard light from the side and deep shadows. Waist-up, eye level, muted color grade. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: burgundy for emerald or navy; keep one hard light so the mood holds.

Rooftop city-lights celebration

Use the uploaded photo for the woman's identity and keep her face exactly as it is. Show her on a city rooftop at night for her [27th] birthday, in [a silver party dress], laughing beside a table with a cake and lit sparklers. The city lights behind her blur into soft bokeh. Night portrait with a soft fill light on her face, waist-up. Aspect ratio 9:16.

Swap: the 9:16 ratio to 4:5 if the image goes in the feed rather than a story.

Cozy cafe birthday brunch

Keep the face, skin tone and hair of the person in the uploaded photo unchanged. Seat her at a sunny window table in a cozy cafe for a birthday brunch: a slice of layered cake with one candle, a latte with heart foam art and a small wrapped gift. She wears [a cream knit sweater]. Natural window light, candid three-quarter angle, 50mm lens. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: the latte for a hot chocolate or a fruit bowl to fit the person.

Beach sunset birthday

Use the person in the uploaded photo and keep her face and features exactly the same. Place her barefoot on a beach at sunset for her [24th] birthday, wearing [a white linen dress], holding a bunch of pastel balloons that drift in the breeze. Warm orange backlight from the sun near the horizon. Full-body, wide framing, photorealistic. Aspect ratio 9:16.

Swap: sunset for blue hour if the backlight darkens the face too much.

Teen girl’s sleepover party

Keep the face of the girl in the uploaded photo completely unchanged. Create a fun sleepover birthday scene for her [15th] birthday: she sits on a bed covered in fairy lights and pillows, in [pastel pajamas], holding a cupcake with one candle, with balloons and a pizza box around her. Warm cozy light, playful candid framing, age-appropriate styling. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: the pajamas for a hoodie; the parent runs this one, since Gemini’s image editing is 18+.

Birthday Photo Prompts for Boys and Men (Cinematic, Studio, Luxury Suit)

The 8 prompts here lean on cinematic light, tailored suits, streetwear and sport, so they do not read as the set above recolored.

For portraits outside a birthday, the Gemini photo prompts for boys, girls and couples work the same way.

Cinematic movie-poster portrait

Use the man in the uploaded photo as the identity reference and keep his face, beard and hairstyle exactly as they are. Create a cinematic movie-poster birthday portrait: he stands in [a dark tailored jacket] under dramatic teal and orange light, with smoke behind him. Add the title "[NAME] [30]" in bold condensed capitals at the bottom. Low angle, 35mm lens. Aspect ratio 2:3.

Swap: the title text, kept inside the quotes.

Movie-poster portrait of a man in teal and orange light, titled ALEX 30
Made in ChatGPT Plus from this prompt on October 16, 2026 (real photo, both people’s permission): small film-credit lines it added on its own.

Grey suit studio portrait

Keep the face and features of the man in the uploaded photo completely unchanged. Create a clean studio birthday portrait: he wears [a charcoal grey three-piece suit], one hand in his pocket, beside a white two-tier cake on a marble stand and silver number balloons "[40]". Soft key light, plain grey paper backdrop. Waist-up, eye level, 85mm lens. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: the suit color; navy and black both keep the clean studio feel.

Luxury car and city night

Use the uploaded photo and keep the man's face, skin tone and hair exactly the same. Show him leaning on [a black sports car] on a city street at night for his birthday, wearing [a black suit with an open collar], holding a gift box. Wet pavement reflects neon signs, and gold balloons are tied to the car's mirror. Full-body, low angle, cinematic night lighting. Aspect ratio 16:9.

Swap: the car for a motorbike; keep the wet street for the reflections.

Neon streetwear birthday

Keep the face of the young man in the uploaded photo exactly as it is. Create a streetwear birthday shot: he wears [an oversized hoodie and white sneakers], sitting on a stack of gift boxes in front of a wall with a pink neon sign that reads "Happy Birthday". Purple and blue neon light, light haze, slightly low angle, urban editorial style. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: the neon sign’s words, still in quotes.

Vintage gentleman film look

Use the man in the uploaded photo and keep his face and features unchanged. Restyle the photo as a 1950s gentleman's birthday portrait: [a tweed suit], a pocket square and a fedora, seated in a leather armchair beside a chocolate cake. Warm tungsten light, film grain and slightly faded color like a vintage print. Three-quarter view, waist-up. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: the fedora out if it hides too much of the hairline.

Boy’s superhero or sports party

Keep the face of the boy in the uploaded photo completely unchanged. Create a bright birthday party scene for his [7th] birthday: he wears [a plain red cape and mask], jumping in front of a cake shaped like a [shield], with balloons and confetti in the air. Bright, cheerful daylight, full body, playful energy. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: the cape for his team’s jersey colors and the cake for a soccer ball.

Teen gaming-setup birthday

Keep the face and hair of the teenage boy in the uploaded photo exactly as they are. Show him at his gaming desk for his [16th] birthday, [a headset around his neck], with RGB lights glowing, a cake with a game-controller topper, and balloons behind his chair. Cool blue and purple light from the monitors, three-quarter angle. Aspect ratio 16:9.

Swap: the RGB colors to his own setup’s colors.

Rooftop bokeh celebration

Use the man in the uploaded photo and keep his face, skin tone and hairstyle unchanged. Place him on a rooftop terrace at dusk for his [35th] birthday, in [a navy blazer over a white shirt], raising a glass of sparkling juice beside a cake with sparklers. String lights and the skyline blur into warm bokeh behind him. Waist-up, 85mm lens. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: dusk for night if you want the string lights to carry the scene.

Saree and Traditional Birthday Portrait Prompts

Each of the 4 saree prompts names the fabric, color, border and jewelry. That follows the first of Google’s prompting best practices: “Be hyper-specific.”

Silk saree studio portrait with marigold decor

Keep the face, skin tone and hairstyle of the woman in the uploaded photo completely unchanged. Create a birthday portrait of her in [a deep red Kanjeevaram silk saree with a gold zari border], draped in the Nivi style, with [gold temple jewelry and jhumkas]. Behind her: marigold garlands, brass diyas and a cake with lit candles. Warm studio light, three-quarter pose, waist-up. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: the saree color and border; describe both, or the model picks them.

Woman in a red and gold saree beside marigolds, diyas and a birthday cake
Made in ChatGPT Plus from this prompt on October 16, 2026 (real photo, both people’s permission): it added a “Happy Birthday” cake topper nobody asked for.

Pastel saree garden portrait

Use the woman in the uploaded photo and keep her face exactly as it is. Show her in a sunlit garden for her birthday, wearing [a pastel mint organza saree with a silver border] and [pearl drop earrings], holding a small floral cake. Soft morning light, flowers in the foreground blurred. Full-body, eye level, photorealistic. Aspect ratio 2:3.

Swap: organza for chiffon if you want a softer fall in the fabric.

Half-saree or lehenga for a teen’s birthday

Keep the face of the girl in the uploaded photo completely unchanged. Create a portrait for her [16th] birthday in [a peach silk half-saree] with [a gold zari border] and [small gold earrings and bangles], standing beside a cake table decorated with roses and fairy lights. Soft festive light, full body, gentle smile, age-appropriate styling. Aspect ratio 2:3.

Swap: “half-saree” for “lehenga choli in [color]” to get a North Indian look.

Saree with a family cake-cutting

Use the uploaded photos and keep every person's face unchanged. The woman from photo 1 wears [a royal blue silk saree with a gold border] and [a gold necklace with jhumkas] and stands in the center cutting a cake; [her parents from photo 2] stand on her left. Warm living-room light, marigold and fairy-light decor, everyone smiling. Eye-level group shot. Aspect ratio 3:2.

Swap: who stands where, naming each person’s position.

Milestone Birthday Prompts: 1st to 60th Birthdays

Each of the 8 prompts below marks one milestone, with the number spelled out in the props and any text in quotes.

Before you upload a child’s photo

Gemini Apps require you to be 18 or over to generate and edit images, so the parent makes the image, never the child.

A subset of Gemini chats is reviewed by human reviewers, and reviewed chats are kept for up to three years. Turning off Keep Activity stops future chats from being reviewed to improve Google services. Temporary chats are not used for that either, and both are still kept for 72 hours.

Baby’s first birthday cake smash

Keep the baby's face from the uploaded photo exactly as it is. Create a first-birthday cake smash photo: the baby sits on a white floor in [a cream romper], hands in a small frosted smash cake, with a large gold "1" balloon and pastel balloons behind. Bright, soft studio light, low angle at the baby's eye level, photorealistic. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: the cream romper for a theme color, and keep the backdrop plain.

Sweet 16 tiara and neon sign

Keep the face and hairstyle of the girl in the uploaded photo unchanged. Create a sweet 16 birthday portrait: she wears [a blush tulle party dress] and a small tiara, in front of a pink and silver balloon arch with a neon sign reading "Sweet 16". Soft glamorous light, waist-up, eye level, age-appropriate styling. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: pink and silver for her own party colors.

18th birthday with number balloons

Use the person in the uploaded photo and keep their face exactly the same. Create an 18th birthday portrait with large silver number balloons "1" and "8" placed left to right behind them, confetti in the air and a cake with lit candles. They wear [a sequin party outfit]. Bright party light with a soft flash, waist-up. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: silver for rose gold; keep “left to right” so the digits do not flip.

21st birthday gold key party

Keep the face and features of the person in the uploaded photo completely unchanged. Create a 21st birthday shot: gold "2" and "1" balloons placed left to right, a black and gold cake, a gold key prop in their hand and streamers falling. They wear [a black party outfit]. Glossy party lighting with a gold rim light, waist-up. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: the key prop for a gold sash with the age on it if the key reads as clutter.

30th birthday candlelit dinner

Use the person in the uploaded photo and keep their face, skin tone and hair unchanged. Create a chic 30th birthday portrait at a dinner table set with candles, white flowers and a cake topped with the number "30". They wear [an elegant evening outfit]. Warm candlelight with a soft key light, waist-up, 50mm lens. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: the dinner table for a studio with the balloon arch from the Maya example.

40th birthday green-and-gold lounge

Keep the face of the person in the uploaded photo exactly as it is. Create a 40th birthday portrait in [a modern lounge] with dark green and gold decor, a cake with a gold "40" topper and a few wrapped gifts. They wear [a tailored outfit] and smile relaxed into the camera. Warm, flattering light, three-quarter view, waist-up. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: dark green for black if the outfit is green.

Golden 50th birthday in ivory and gold

Use the person in the uploaded photo and keep their face and features unchanged. Create a golden 50th birthday portrait: gold balloons forming the number "50", a gold-trimmed white cake and gold confetti on the table. They wear [an ivory outfit]. Soft, warm golden light, elegant and timeless, waist-up. Photorealistic. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: ivory for a deep color so the person does not fade into the gold.

Man in an ivory jacket beside gold 50 balloons and a gold-trimmed cake
Made in ChatGPT Plus from this prompt on October 16, 2026 (real photo, both people’s permission): the “50” prompt did not age his face.

60th birthday family portrait

Use the uploaded photos and keep every face unchanged: [the birthday person from photo 1] sits in the center beside a cake with a "60" topper, with [the family from photo 2] standing behind. Warm home lighting, flowers and soft balloons, everyone smiling. Eye-level family portrait, natural color. Aspect ratio 3:2.

Swap: the family photo for one per person if the group shot is small or blurry, and keep the group at four people or fewer.

Birthday Poster and Card Prompts with Your Name (Viral Luxury Style)

Put the exact words in quotes, describe the font, and say where the text sits. Gemini “works best if you first generate the text and then ask for an image with the text,” so a long invite can take two turns.

In my ChatGPT Plus run, 7 of 7 images spelled the quoted text right, but 5 of 7 added text I never asked for. That is why the magazine-cover and invite prompts below name the only text allowed.

Precise text placement and clarity are a listed limitation of OpenAI’s GPT Image models. In Gemini, Nano Banana Pro adds detail “especially for images that use text rendering,” and paid subscribers reach it through Redo with Pro.

Viral luxury birthday poster

Keep the face of the person in the uploaded photo completely unchanged. Create a luxury birthday poster: a black background with gold glitter, the person in [a black and gold outfit] centered in a dramatic spotlight, gold balloons on both sides. Add the exact text "Happy Birthday [Name]" in large gold script at the top and "[25]" in tall gold numerals behind them. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: the script font for “bold serif capitals” if the script letters blur.

Black and gold birthday poster of a woman reading Happy Birthday Maya, 25
Made in ChatGPT Plus from this prompt on October 16, 2026 (real photo, both people’s permission): “Happy Birthday Maya” and “25” spelled as requested.

Magazine-cover birthday

Use the person in the uploaded photo and keep their face exactly the same. Create a glossy fashion magazine cover for their birthday: the masthead reads "[NAME]" in a bold serif font across the top, with the cover line "The [30th] Birthday Issue" in small capitals at the bottom left. They pose in [a red outfit] against a clean studio backdrop. The masthead and the cover line are the only text on the cover. Aspect ratio 2:3.

Swap: the cover line’s words; keep the sentence that names the only text on the cover.

Party invite card with date and time

Create a birthday party invitation card with the person from the uploaded photo, face unchanged, in a round frame at the top. Below it, add this exact text in a clean sans-serif font: "[Leo]'s [10th] Birthday", then "[Saturday, June 14] at [3 PM]", then "[Maple Park Pavilion]". Pastel confetti border, white background. These three lines are the only text on the card. Aspect ratio 2:3.

Swap: each bracket; read the date and time twice in the result before you send it.

Polaroid collage card

Use the uploaded photos and keep each face unchanged. Create a birthday card made of [four] Polaroid-style prints taped to a pastel pink board, each print showing the birthday person from a different uploaded photo. Add the handwritten-style text "Happy Birthday, [Name]!" in black marker under the prints. Soft overhead light, flat lay from directly above. Aspect ratio 1:1.

Swap: the board color, and keep the prints at four or fewer.

Neon sign birthday wall

Keep the face of the person in the uploaded photo exactly as it is. Place them in front of a dark brick wall with a pink neon sign that reads "Happy Birthday [Name]" in cursive neon lettering, glowing above their head. They hold a cupcake with a sparkler. Neon glow as the main light, slight haze, waist-up. Aspect ratio 9:16.

Swap: cursive for block neon letters when the name is long.

Couple, Friends and Family Birthday Prompts

Upload one photo per person (or one group photo), say who stands where, and keep the group small. Google’s API documentation gives character resemblance of up to 4 characters for both Nano Banana 2 (Gemini 3.1 Flash Image) and Nano Banana 2.1, so treat four as a ceiling.

For two-person ideas beyond birthdays, see the couple photo prompts that keep both faces.

Couple’s birthday dinner

Use the two uploaded photos and keep both faces unchanged: the woman from photo 1 sits on the left, the man from photo 2 on the right. Create a romantic dinner for [her] birthday: a candlelit table, a small cake with one candle, roses, and city lights through the window. He leans toward her. Warm candlelight, eye level, 50mm lens. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: whose birthday it is; the cake sits in front of that person.

A woman and a man at a candlelit birthday dinner with roses and a cake
Made in ChatGPT Plus from this prompt on October 16, 2026 (real photo, both people’s permission): the cake reads “Happy Birthday Maya,” a name carried over from earlier prompts in the same chat.

Best friends’ birthday party

Use the uploaded photos of [three] friends and keep every face exactly as it is. Place them together at a birthday party: the birthday person from photo 1 in the center wearing a sash that reads "[Birthday Girl]", the others on each side, all laughing under falling confetti. Pastel balloon wall behind them. Bright party light with a soft flash, waist-up group shot. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: the sash text, and keep the group at four people or fewer.

Family cake-cutting portrait

Use the uploaded family photo and keep every person's face unchanged. Move the family to a decorated living room for [the child's 5th] birthday: the child in the center cutting a cake with a "[5]" candle, parents on either side, balloons and streamers behind. Warm, natural home lighting, eye-level group shot, everyone in frame. Aspect ratio 3:2.

Swap: the room for a backyard; keep “everyone in frame” so nobody is cropped.

Surprise party reveal

Keep the face of the person in the uploaded photo exactly as it is. Create a surprise party moment: they step through a doorway with a shocked, delighted expression while out-of-focus party guests under a "Surprise!" banner throw confetti. Warm indoor light with a burst of flash, candid wide shot. Aspect ratio 3:2.

Swap: the doorway for a restaurant table; the guests stay blurred, so no real friend’s face is needed.

Pet’s birthday with its owner

Use both uploaded photos and keep the faces of the owner (photo 1) and the dog (photo 2) unchanged, including the dog's coat color and markings. Show them sitting together on a picnic blanket, the dog wearing a small party hat in front of a dog-safe cake with a "[3]" topper. Soft afternoon light, eye level, both in focus. Aspect ratio 4:5.

Swap: “dog” for “cat,” and describe the markings so the pet stays recognizable.

Why a Birthday Prompt Changes Your Face (and Other Fixes)

Most failures come from a face the prompt never described, text that was not in quotes, or a prompt that changed too much at once. Match the symptom to its fix:

ProblemLikely causeWhat to change
The face looks like someone elseNo identity sentence, or a vague oneStart with the identity sentence and name the features to keep; Google says to describe critical details “in great detail” with the edit
The name is misspelledThe words were not in quotes, or the scene was crowdedQuote the exact words, name the font and position, or generate the text first and then the image
Extra text you did not ask forThe model adds it on its own (5 of 7 images in my ChatGPT Plus test)Say which text is the only text on the image

Long edit chains also cost more of the limit, because Gemini re-reads the whole chat history each turn. Give each new birthday photo its own chat. When the face drifts after a second edit, go back to the last good version and change one thing per turn.

Gemini or ChatGPT for Birthday Photos: Limits, Watermarks and Privacy

My pick is to start in Gemini: Google’s image page labels Nano Banana 2 “Free,” and Google publishes how its usage limit works. The trade-off is the visible watermark Gemini uses. Use ChatGPT if you already pay for it.

Neither free tier publishes a number of images. Media generation uses more of Gemini’s compute-based limit than chat does, so a session of retries runs out sooner than a session of questions.

For one birthday post, the free tier is the right place to stop. Plus is the cheapest paid plan at $4.99 per month.

Google AI plans page showing Free at $0, Plus at $4.99, Pro at $19.99 and Ultra from $99.99 per month

Pro at $19.99 per month buys 4x the standard limit. It makes sense only if Gemini is already your daily assistant.

Both tools mark their output. Gemini adds a visible watermark on top of SynthID, so a post will show that the image is AI-made.

OpenAI’s provenance page describes ChatGPT’s image marks, Content Credentials and SynthID, as information that software can read, and it lists no visible watermark. None of my 7 downloaded ChatGPT Plus images showed one, and all 7 PNG files carried a C2PA Content Credentials block.

If a visible mark rules Gemini out, the free AI photo editors compared by quota and watermark are the next place to look.

With Keep Activity on, Gemini auto-deletes activity after 18 months by default, or after 3 or 36 months if you change it.

In ChatGPT, the privacy switch is “Improve the model for everyone” under Settings, then Data controls.

If you make birthday images every week for clients or a shop, the question becomes which paid tool to buy. The best AI image generators by price and credits answer that.

Birthday Photo Prompts FAQ

Is there an AI for making birthday photos?

Yes. Gemini’s Nano Banana 2 model is labelled Free, and ChatGPT’s free tier includes image creation; both accept an uploaded photo, so every prompt here can be pasted into either.

Google’s Gemini page names 90s grunge, 80s preppy and retro mall-studio portraits among the ways people use Nano Banana. The aesthetic vintage film and vintage gentleman prompts above are the birthday versions of that retro look.

Can I share AI birthday photos on Instagram?

Yes, but the image is marked. Google says Gemini adds a visible watermark and an invisible SynthID watermark, and OpenAI says ChatGPT images carry Content Credentials and SynthID watermarks. In my ChatGPT Plus test, the mark was in the file, not on the picture.

Can I use these prompts for a real birthday photoshoot?

Yes, as a shot list. The framing lines (shot type, angle and lens) and the decor lines describe a setup a photographer can copy.

Do these prompts work in Midjourney or other tools?

The scene structure transfers to any image generator, but the identity sentence needs a tool that edits an uploaded photo. For other editors, the AI photo editing prompts are written for ChatGPT, Gemini and Midjourney.

Are these birthday prompts free to copy?

Yes. Copy, edit and reuse any prompt here and the master template; copying them from this page needs no sign-up.

Can I turn a birthday photo into a video?

Not with these prompts, which are written for still images. For a birthday clip, start from the AI video prompts instead.
