11 TalentLMS Alternatives Matched to the Limit You Hit
Editorial. We review software independently. If you buy through our links we may earn a commission, which funds the testing. See our review methodology and affiliate disclosure.

The right TalentLMS alternative depends on which TalentLMS limit you hit. Per-learner cost under 100 people points to ProProfs Training Maker; bundled course authoring points to iSpring LMS. Customer and partner academies point to LearnUpon or Skilljar, and 250+ learners across business units to Docebo.

TalentLMS is the baseline for every price below. Core costs $119 a month billed yearly for 1-40 users ($1,428 a year), and the free plan covers 5 users.

At 300 learners, TalentLMS Grow costs $4,188 a year, billed yearly. Of the four alternatives whose published prices cover 300 learners, only MoodleCloud and Thinkific cost less, so leave for a capability, not a smaller bill.

Why TalentLMS Buyers Start Looking for an Alternative

Four TalentLMS plan limits push growing teams to look elsewhere: user caps, branch counts, AI credits and the per-user charge above a plan’s limit.

  • User caps. Core stops at 100 users and Grow at 500, and Enterprise starts at 1,000 users. Within Core, the price rises from $119 a month for 1-40 users to $219 for 71-100, billed yearly.
  • Branches. Core includes 1 branch, Grow 3, Pro 15 and Enterprise unlimited. A team that gives each client or partner its own portal hits this ceiling before the user cap.
  • AI credits. TalentCraft gives Core 5,000 AI credits once, Grow 10,000 a month, Pro 15,000 a month and Enterprise 80,000 a month.
  • Overage. The Flexible user limit option counts unique users who log in each month and bills anyone above the plan limit at a per-user rate, $6 per additional user on Pro.

None of this makes TalentLMS a bad buy. Every paid plan includes unlimited courses, and AI course translation covers over 40 languages. Before you decide a cap is real, find your bracket in my TalentLMS pricing by user bracket.

One plan detail may shift: TalentLMS labels Learning Playground a promo on Core and Grow that “may move to a higher plan in the future” (checked October 2026).

Once you know which limit you are hitting, the table below shows what each alternative changes and what it costs.

Which TalentLMS Alternative Fits Your Reason for Leaving?

The alternatives to TalentLMS worth a shortlist are iSpring LMS, ProProfs Training Maker, Moodle, 360Learning, Absorb LMS, LearnUpon, Skilljar, Tovuti LMS, Thinkific, Docebo and Litmos. Pick by the limit you hit, not by rank; TalentLMS is the baseline row, and my best LMS platforms by training job widen the comparison.

Sources: pricing pages of TalentLMS, iSpring LMS, ProProfs, MoodleCloud, 360Learning, Absorb, LearnUpon, Skilljar, Tovuti, Thinkific, Docebo and Litmos, checked October 2026.

Read the second column first. A team leaving over branches should check ProProfs Elite, which lists unlimited client and team portals, and Litmos, which lists Additional Tenants as an add-on. One leaving over AI credits has ProProfs, with unlimited AI course creation listed on its free plan and Essentials.

A team leaving over user caps or the overage charge should compare how each vendor counts a learner. The cost table near the end sets those rules side by side.

How I Chose and Ordered the Alternatives

Each pick has an official pricing page that shows a price or tells you how to get one, and each changes something a TalentLMS buyer runs into. The order is a grouping, not a ranking: general employee-training LMSs first, then platforms built around one audience or one plan, then enterprise suites.

iSpring comes first because it opens the employee-training group, not because it wins. At 100 learners it costs $8,286 a year against $2,628 for TalentLMS Core at 71-100 users, billed yearly. ProProfs undercuts TalentLMS at 40 and 100 learners, but not at 300.

1. iSpring LMS: Better for 100-500 Employees Who Want Course Authoring Bundled

iSpring LMS homepage, first screen
iSpring LMS homepage, first screen, ispringsolutions.com, captured Oct 2026

iSpring LMS gets cheaper per head as you grow: $6.91 per active user a month at 100 users drops to $3.97 at 500.

Every plan includes the iSpring Suite AI authoring tool for HTML5/SCORM courses, role-play simulations and text to speech, with unlimited projects and storage. Every plan also includes 24/7 live tech support and an API for custom integrations.

TalentLMS meters its TalentCraft AI authoring in credits: 10,000 a month on Grow and 15,000 on Pro. Ask iSpring what usage terms apply to its AI tool before you treat it as unmetered.

iSpring counts a user as active after one log-in in a month, the rule TalentLMS’s Flex option uses, so your current monthly log-in count prices it directly.

Where TalentLMS still wins. At 100 users, iSpring costs $8,286 a year against $2,628 for TalentLMS Core at 71-100 users, billed yearly, a gap of $5,658. Below 100 users, iSpring asks you to request pricing.

Pricing:
$16,050 a year for 300 active users and $23,790 for 500, in USD. iSpring offers no government, nonprofit or academic discounts, which matters if you now get TalentLMS’s 20% nonprofit discount.

2. ProProfs Training Maker: Better for Small Teams Paying per Active Learner

ProProfs Training Maker homepage, first screen
ProProfs Training Maker homepage, first screen, proprofstraining.com, captured Oct 2026

A 40-person team pays less on ProProfs than on TalentLMS: 40 learners x $23.88 = $955.20 a year on Essentials, against $1,428 for TalentLMS Core at 1-40 users. The free plan covers 10 learners instead of 5.

ProProfs’s pricing page lists “Unlimited AI to Create Courses” on its free plan and on Essentials, where TalentLMS Core gives 5,000 AI credits once.

The bigger fix is portals. Business Complete Elite adds unlimited client and team portals, each with its own branding and reporting, which answers TalentLMS’s 1, 3 and 15 branch limits. Elite also brings SAML single sign-on and HRIS sync.

ProProfs counts anyone currently enrolled, so an enrolled learner who never logs in still costs a seat; pausing a former employee frees it and keeps their reports.

Where TalentLMS still wins. Essentials caps at 100 active learners and Business at 200. A team of 101 pays 101 x $47.88 = $4,835.88 a year on Business, more than the $4,188 TalentLMS Grow costs at 201-300 users. A team of 300 lands on Elite: 300 learners x $59.76 = $17,928 a year.

Pricing:
Essentials is $1.99 per active learner a month ($23.88 annually), Business $3.99 ($47.88 annually) and Business Complete Elite $4.98 ($59.76 annually); only Elite is labelled “Annual plans only”. Course sales through Stripe carry a 0% ProProfs fee.

3. Moodle: Better for the Lowest License Cost If You Can Run It Yourself

MoodleCloud homepage, first screen
Moodle homepage, first screen, moodlecloud.com, captured Oct 2026

Moodle is free software, not a free LMS. The code is open source under the GNU General Public License with no licensing fees, but someone has to host, update and support it.

MoodleCloud, Moodle’s hosted service, takes the server work off your hands at a fraction of TalentLMS’s price. Its Mini plan costs $270 a year for 100 users, against $2,628 for TalentLMS Core at 71-100 users.

The ceiling is real. MoodleCloud plans stop at 750 users and cannot install plugins or integrations, a loss if TalentLMS’s BambooHR or Salesforce connection runs your onboarding.

Moodle’s own page says MoodleCloud “works best for individuals selling courses or small organisations with basic learning needs.”

Pricing:
MoodleCloud bills yearly by user tier, from Starter at $170 for 50 users to Standard at $2,100 for 750 (USD shown, billed in Australian dollars). Stripe course selling starts on Small at $490 for 200 users, and a 28-day free trial lets you test first.

4. 360Learning: Better for AI-Assisted Course Creation by Subject-Matter Experts

360Learning homepage, first screen
360Learning homepage, first screen, 360learning.com, captured Oct 2026

360Learning says its Collaborative Learning approach helps turn subject-matter experts into content creators, and that it moves faster than traditional top-down training models. It says every plan includes its AI-powered LMS, with co-authoring, AI-assisted authoring and an AI Companion in its feature list.

The Team plan suits a TalentLMS leaver who dislikes annual lock-in. It costs $8 per user a month for up to 100 users, billed monthly, with no annual commitment or user minimum.

Above 100 users, Business and Enterprise are custom and can mix registered and monthly active users in one contract for internal and external learners. Integrations include Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, BambooHR, Microsoft Teams and Slack.

Where TalentLMS still wins. Seat price. On Team, 100 users x $8 x 12 months = $9,600 a year, against $2,628 for TalentLMS Core or $5,388 for Pro at 100 users, billed yearly.

Pricing:
Team is the one 360Learning plan with a public price, and a 30-day free trial comes first. Business and Enterprise are quoted, generally on annual contracts.

5. Absorb LMS: Better for Mid-Market Teams That Want AI Agents and HR Integrations

Absorb LMS homepage, first screen
Absorb LMS homepage, first screen, absorbai.com, captured Oct 2026

Absorb asks for your learner count and contact details before it shows a price. In return, it names ADP, Workday and Salesforce among 40+ integrations, which matters when your HR records live in ADP or Workday.

AI is the other draw. Absorb Aura, labelled New on Absorb’s homepage, is a team of AI agents for learners, managers and admins, and Absorb Create generates whole courses with quizzes, translations and voice-overs.

Absorb also lists 20,000+ pre-built courses and e-commerce for selling courses.

The tradeoff. You cannot budget Absorb before a demo, while TalentLMS’s pricing page lists self-serve brackets up to 1,000 users.

Pricing:
Absorb publishes no prices. Its form asks for a learner band from 1-50 to 25,000+, then a business email, phone number and company.

6. LearnUpon: Better for Training Employees, Customers and Partners on One Platform

LearnUpon homepage, first screen
LearnUpon homepage, first screen, learnupon.com, captured Oct 2026

If your TalentLMS branches have turned into customer and partner portals, LearnUpon is built for that shape. It sells separate products for employees (from 100 users), customer education (from 300 users) and associations (from 150 users).

Every LearnUpon plan comes with an Implementation Consultant, a Customer Success contact and 24/7 technical support. The Customer Education Enterprise plan adds white labelling, eCommerce and group branding, the pieces a partner academy needs.

AI shows up as Ask Lia and AI-powered assessments; integrations cover HRIS systems, HubSpot, Salesforce, Zapier and a two-way API.

Where TalentLMS still wins. LearnUpon’s own FAQ says it is not a fit below 100 users, for on-premise needs, or for HIPAA-regulated health or sensitive personal data. TalentLMS starts at a 1-40 user bracket with a published price.

Pricing:
LearnUpon publishes no prices; each product shows its minimum user count and a demo button.

7. Skilljar: Better for SaaS Customer Education Academies

Skilljar homepage, first screen
Skilljar homepage, first screen, skilljar.com, captured Oct 2026

Skilljar calls itself an external LMS, and its pricing follows that audience. You pay an annual plan (Essentials, Professional or Enterprise) plus a fee for active users taking lessons in your Academy over one year, both quoted on a call.

That yearly count fits customers who learn in bursts: a customer active in March and June counts once for the year, where monthly counting bills both months.

Plans scale by Academy sites (1, 2 or 3) and premium integrations (3, 5 or 7), with unlimited seats and courses. Every plan includes an Implementation Manager and a guaranteed 24-hour support response.

The tradeoff. Add-ons carry five-figure prices: Content Syndication is $10k, the Data Connector starts at $25k, and Language Packs start at $10k for 5 languages.

Pricing:
Skilljar publishes add-on prices but no plan or active-user prices.

8. Tovuti LMS: Better for One All-Inclusive Plan With E-commerce and Branded Portals

Tovuti LMS homepage, first screen
Tovuti LMS homepage, first screen, tovutilms.com, captured Oct 2026

$7,500 a year buys Tovuti’s whole platform for the first 100 annual learners, billed annually; above that, Tovuti quotes the price.

There are no tiers to outgrow. The one plan includes H5P course authoring, e-commerce, branded portals, an offline-capable mobile app, and SSO, HRIS and CRM integrations. On TalentLMS, more portals mean moving from 3 branches on Grow to 15 on Pro.

Two add-ons cost extra: WayPoints AI authoring, which turns SOPs, PDFs and decks into SCORM-ready courses, and LMS-as-a-service, priced to scope.

Where TalentLMS still wins. Small teams: $7,500 is $4,872 more than the $2,628 TalentLMS Core costs for 71-100 users, billed yearly.

Pricing:
one list price, quoted above 100 learners. Multi-year terms lower the annual rate, and nonprofit, government, education and healthcare teams may qualify for sector pricing.

9. Thinkific: Better for Selling Courses to Thousands of Students at a Flat Price

Thinkific homepage, first screen
Thinkific homepage, thinkific.com, captured Oct 2026

Thinkific prices the platform, not the people. Basic costs $40 a month billed annually ($54 billed monthly) and covers up to 10,000 current students, meaning unique students with unexpired access to a course.

For a course business, that flips TalentLMS’s economics: 300 paying students cost $40 x 12 months = $480 a year on Basic, with no user bracket to climb. Checkout, coupons and abandoned-cart emails are built in, where TalentLMS sells through PayPal, Stripe and Shopify integrations.

Where TalentLMS still wins. Employee training. SCORM, learning paths, SSO and HubSpot or Salesforce integrations sit on quoted Thinkific Plus, while TalentLMS includes SCORM 1.2, Tin Can and cmi5 on all plans. A SCORM compliance program would need Plus and a sales call.

Pricing:
Start is $82 and Grow $164 a month billed annually ($109 and $219 billed monthly); Plus is quoted. Thinkific has no free plan, but every account starts with a 30-day free trial.

10. Docebo: Better for 250+ Learners Across Business Units

Docebo homepage, first screen
Docebo homepage, first screen, docebo.com, captured Oct 2026

Docebo makes sense once TalentLMS Pro’s 15 branches stop covering your business units. Docebo says it typically suits companies training 250+ learners across customers, partners and employees, or extending L&D across business units and languages.

Docebo supports over 400 integrations across HRIS, SSO, CRM and authoring tools. Its onboarding can include migrating courses, quizzes, user data and enrolment records, which helps when your TalentLMS-built courses cannot leave as packages.

The tradeoff. Commitment. The minimum contract is one year, Docebo says most customers sign for 3-5 years, and onboarding fees are scoped during the sale.

Whether that commitment beats staying put at your size is the question my TalentLMS vs Docebo comparison works through.

Pricing:
quoted from a tier (Elevate or Enterprise) and a user model: monthly active, yearly active or registered active users. Per Docebo’s pricing FAQ, users above your limit are billed, and an upgrade usually makes sense at about 30% overage.

11. Litmos: Better for Multi-Brand Training Programs With an $8K+ Budget

Litmos homepage, first screen
Litmos homepage, first screen, litmos.com, captured Oct 2026

Litmos sets a price floor before any demo: Foundation starts at $8K a year and Platinum at $15K, while Platinum AI is quoted by sales.

That floor is more than five times TalentLMS Core’s $1,428 entry price, so Litmos pays off only when its extras replace other spending.

For a TalentLMS leaver, the extra that matters most is Additional Tenants, an add-on for separate environments per brand, business unit or audience. Litmos also lists AI video assessments that score role-play scenarios and native SCORM authoring.

TalentLMS has its own native Salesforce integration, so Litmos’s Salesforce AppExchange app alone is not a reason to switch.

What 100 and 300 Active Learners Cost per Year on Each LMS

At 100 learners, TalentLMS Core costs less than every alternative with a published price except MoodleCloud, Thinkific and ProProfs Essentials.

At 300 learners only iSpring, ProProfs, MoodleCloud and Thinkific print a price. The other rows say Quote, and Litmos prints a starting price without a user count. Each row uses the vendor’s own counting rule where one is published.

Sources: list prices from TalentLMS, iSpring LMS, ProProfs, MoodleCloud, 360Learning, Tovuti, Thinkific, Litmos, Docebo, Absorb, LearnUpon and Skilljar, checked October 2026. Totals are my math.

At 300 learners a year, ProProfs Elite costs $17,928, iSpring LMS $16,050, TalentLMS Pro $6,228, TalentLMS Grow $4,188, MoodleCloud Medium $1,190 and Thinkific Basic $480
Yearly list price for 300 learners, where the vendor publishes one. Source: Vendor pricing pages, checked October 2026; ProProfs is 300 x $59.76.

At 300 learners the gap widens: ProProfs Elite and iSpring each cost more than three times TalentLMS Grow. MoodleCloud and Thinkific undercut Grow by giving up integrations or SCORM.

The counting rule can move the bill more than the rate does. iSpring and TalentLMS’s Flex option count monthly log-ins, ProProfs counts enrollment, and Skilljar and Tovuti count learners per year.

Take an illustrative team of 300 enrolled learners, of whom 100 log in during a given month. These numbers are invented to show the counting rules, not typical usage.

iSpring counts only users who log in at least once in a month, so 100 active users fall on its listed 100-user price of $8,286 a year. ProProfs says an active learner is anyone currently enrolled, so the same team pays 300 x $59.76 = $17,928 a year on Business Complete Elite, $9,642 more than iSpring.

ProProfs says pausing a learner frees the license and keeps their reports. Pausing the 200 idle learners leaves 100 learners at $23.88 on Essentials: 100 x $23.88 = $2,388 a year, which is $5,898 less than iSpring’s $8,286. The same team therefore sits above iSpring or far below it on ProProfs depending on whether idle learners are paused.

Totals use annual billing except 360Learning Team, which bills monthly, and leave out taxes, add-ons and discounts. Price narrows the list; what you can carry out of TalentLMS decides how soon you can switch.

How Hard Is It to Move Your Training Off TalentLMS?

Your people data moves easily; courses built in TalentLMS do not. TalentLMS exports users, a list of your courses, categories, branches, groups and custom fields with the relationships between them, but whole courses created in TalentLMS cannot be exported as standalone packages.

What TalentLMS lets you export

An administrator runs the export from Account & Settings > Import – Export and picks CSV or Excel (XLSX). The file holds a separate tab for each data set plus the links between them, per the TalentLMS import and export guide.

That file can seed the user and group import in your next LMS. It links each user to their courses, groups and branches and each course to its groups and branches, but it does not carry the course content.

What you will rebuild

Anything authored in TalentLMS’s own course editor has to be rebuilt. Only your original uploads, such as SCORM packages, PDFs and videos, download as they are.

Those SCORM files move to any pick here that imports SCORM, except Thinkific below Plus. For the rest, 360Learning says you can rebuild content with its AI-assisted authoring, and Tovuti’s WayPoints turns SOPs, PDFs and decks into courses.

Which vendors help with the move

Docebo’s onboarding can take on courses, quizzes, user data and enrolment records, with fees scoped in the sale. Skilljar and LearnUpon include an implementation lead in every plan, and 360Learning’s Professional Services handle data migration.

Thinkific Plus includes migration support, and Tovuti’s LMS-as-a-service migrates content for a scoped fee. ProProfs says most customers transition in under 2 weeks.

If most of your library lives in TalentLMS’s editor, weigh that rebuild against staying.

When Staying on TalentLMS Is the Better Call

Stay on TalentLMS when none of the four limits applies to you, or when one of these is true:

  • You train up to 100 people in one portal. Only MoodleCloud, Thinkific and ProProfs Essentials cost less at that size, and the first two give up integrations or SCORM.
  • You want to buy without a sales call. Docebo, Absorb, LearnUpon and Skilljar quote their plan prices (Skilljar also publishes add-on prices), and Litmos starts at $8K a year.
  • Most of your courses were built in TalentLMS’s editor and cannot leave as packages.
  • Your workflows run on its integrations with BambooHR, Salesforce, Okta, Zoom, Shopify and HubSpot, or on Zapier’s 1,000+ apps.
  • 300 learners in 3 portals covers you, since Grow’s 201-300 bracket costs less than iSpring or ProProfs at that size.

Whether TalentLMS itself still deserves the budget is the question my full TalentLMS review answers, plan by plan.

FAQ

Is there a free TalentLMS alternative?

Yes. ProProfs Training Maker is free forever for up to 10 learners, and Moodle costs nothing to license if you host it yourself. Among paid picks, Thinkific lets you upgrade, downgrade or cancel during its 30-day trial.

Does TalentLMS have a free version?

Yes. TalentLMS Free is a permanent plan for 5 users and 10 courses, and signing up needs no credit card. Support is included even on Free, so you can open tickets while you test the platform before paying.
