NotebookLM (Gemini Notebook) is free with a Google Account. In NotebookLM pricing, every personal paid tier is a Google AI bundle, starting with Google AI Plus at $4.99 a month, and the Google Cloud license is the standalone route for organizations. Which account pays decides the route: a personal account upgrades through Google AI Plus, Pro or Ultra, and a company account through Google Workspace or a Google Cloud license.
This guide prices each route in US dollars from Google’s own pages, read on November 1, 2026, and works out what 1, 5, 15 and 25 people pay. Google’s pages now name the product Gemini Notebook, so the plan names below follow Google’s labels.

Prices were checked on November 1, 2026, in US dollars. Workspace rows show the annual-plan view, and the Business Starter and Standard cards say the price does not include tax; monthly billing comes further down. Google AI plans are sold only in specific regions, and NotebookLM limits may change.

The unit is the column that trips buyers up: personal plans bill per person, Workspace per user, and the Cloud license per license with a floor.
Is NotebookLM Free? What the Free Tier Covers
Yes. NotebookLM costs $0 a month with a Google Account, and a free notebook holds up to 50 sources. Usage runs on compute-based standard limits: when you run out, the quota refreshes every 5 hours until you reach a weekly limit.
Each source can hold up to 500,000 words, or 200MB for a local upload, so with long reports the 50-source count is the cap to watch. On the web, a Studio output such as an Audio Overview can wait in Generate later when you are out of limits, which may take a couple of hours.
Check your work account before paying for anything. Most work and school Google Accounts already have NotebookLM, and it is a core service for Workspace and Workspace for Education users, with basic access on Business Starter.
Stay free if your notebooks stay under 50 sources and a 5-hour wait is an annoyance, not a blocker. For other no-cost tools to pair with it, see my list of the best free AI tools.
Which Limit Forces a NotebookLM Upgrade?
Three limits push people to pay: the usage quota, the sources per notebook, and, on work accounts, the daily number of Audio Overviews. Google AI Plus gets two times the standard usage limits, Google AI Pro four times, and Google AI Ultra 5x or 20x the Pro limits, depending on the subscription. Settings > Usage in the app shows your AI usage and weekly limit, and the Upgrade button in chat or Studio starts the move to a Google AI plan.
| Limit | Free | Google AI Plus | Google AI Pro | Google AI Ultra |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Usage limits | Standard | 2x standard | 4x standard | 5x or 20x Pro |
| Sources per notebook | Up to 50 | Up to 100 | Up to 300 | Up to 600 |
| Gemini model access | Access | Access | Higher access | Highest access |
| New features | Standard access | Early access | Priority access | Priority access |
| Visible watermark toggle | Not listed on the help page | Not listed on the help page | Included | Included |
Sources: Gemini Notebook plans, usage limits help page, work and school accounts help page, checked November 2026.
The source cap usually decides first: an archive past 100 documents rules out Plus, and one past 300 rules out Pro. The quota decides second, and because each tier’s quota is a multiple of the standard limit, your free account is the test. If the 5-hour refresh stops you several times a week, Plus’s doubled quota is the cheapest fix.
Pro and Ultra subscribers can switch off the visible watermark on generated images and videos, except residents of India, South Korea and Vietnam, where Google applies it automatically. On work accounts, Business Starter allows up to 3 Audio Overviews per day against Business Standard’s 20, the gap a team that turns reports into audio briefings hits first.
Can You Buy NotebookLM on Its Own?
Not as an individual: every personal upgrade is Gemini Notebook inside Google AI Plus, Pro or Ultra, so a solo buyer pays for a bundle. An organization can license NotebookLM by itself through Google Cloud’s NotebookLM for enterprise, at $9 per license per month after a 30-day trial, with a minimum of 15 licenses.
| Plan | The NotebookLM part | What else the plan includes |
|---|---|---|
| Google AI Plus | 2x standard limits, 100 sources per notebook | 400 GB of storage, 200 Google Flow credits, Gemini in Gmail and Vids |
| Google AI Pro | 4x standard limits, 300 sources per notebook | 5 TB of storage, 1,000 Google Flow credits, Gemini 4 Argon, YouTube Premium Lite |
| Google AI Ultra | 5x or 20x the Pro limits, 600 sources per notebook | Storage starting at 20 TB, 10,000 or 25,000 Google Flow credits |
| Business Standard | Expanded access, 20 Audio Overviews per day | Business email, 2 TB of pooled storage per user, meeting recording |
| NotebookLM for enterprise | 5x more Audio Overviews, notebooks and sources per notebook; Microsoft 365 sources; VPC-SC and IAM controls | Shared notebooks with usage analytics |
Sources: Google AI plans, Google Workspace pricing, Gemini Notebook for enterprise, checked November 2026.
The split changes the value test. Google AI Pro is a fair price for NotebookLM if you also use its 5 TB of storage or the Gemini app; if you already pay for storage elsewhere, most of what you buy is the fourfold quota and the 300-source cap.
The Gemini app side of these bundles has its own tiers, which my Gemini pricing guide breaks down.
The Flow credits are spent in Google Flow, Google’s AI creative studio; Google Flow pricing shows what they buy.
NotebookLM Pricing Plans Explained
Personal accounts climb from Free to Plus, Pro and Ultra; work accounts get NotebookLM through Workspace, a Google Cloud license or Gemini Enterprise. For what the features themselves do, my Gemini Notebook review goes through them one by one.
Free NotebookLM
Free fits a reader whose notebooks stay under 50 sources and who can wait out the 5-hour refresh. It gives standard limits for chat and for generating Slides, Audio Overviews and other outputs. The upgrade trigger is easy to spot: the first project that needs a 51st source, or a week where the weekly limit stops you mid-task.
Google AI Plus
Plus is the cheapest way past the free cap. For $4.99 a month it doubles the usage limits, lifts the cap to 100 sources per notebook and adds early access to new NotebookLM features. The bundle part is 400 GB of storage, and the plan is sold in more than 160 countries and territories.
For a student or solo consultant who hits the free limit a few times a month, Plus is the easy call. Move up to Pro when a project passes 100 sources or the doubled quota still runs out before the week does.
Google AI Pro
Pro is the tier for daily research. It gives four times the standard limits, up to 300 sources per notebook, priority access to new features and higher access to Google’s Gemini models. Its subscription card also promises “5x more Audio Overviews, notebooks, and more” in Gemini Notebook, and Pro subscribers control the visible watermark.
A year of Pro is $19.99 x 12 = $239.88, a real commitment for one person, so Pro makes sense when NotebookLM is a daily work tool rather than a weekly one. If four times the standard quota still runs out, or your sources pass 300, Ultra’s 600-source cap is the next step.
Google AI Ultra
Few NotebookLM users need Ultra. It is for someone whose notebooks need up to 600 sources, or whose work burns through five or 20 times the Pro limits.
The entry tier costs $99.99 a month. It gives 5x the usage limits of AI Pro.
The top tier costs $199.99 a month and gives 20x the AI Pro limits.
Both tiers add storage starting at 20 TB and 10,000 or 25,000 Google Flow credits. Skip Ultra if NotebookLM is your only reason to upgrade: the price pays for Google’s whole AI bundle, and Pro’s 300 sources cover daily research.
Google Workspace Business Starter
Business Starter includes NotebookLM with basic access only, and caps Audio Overviews at 3 per day. Starter does not get Standard’s 5x more notebooks, chat queries and sources per notebook, which makes it an email plan with NotebookLM on the side.
Starter costs $7 per user per month on the annual plan; the introductory rate read on November 1, 2026 was $3.50 for a new customer’s first 20 users. Pick Starter if your team mainly needs business email; a team that relies on NotebookLM should start at Standard.
Google Workspace Business Standard
For teams that already work in Gmail and Docs, Business Standard is the NotebookLM tier to buy. It carries NotebookLM’s expanded access, up to 20 Audio Overviews per day and 5x more notebooks, chat queries and sources per notebook, a row Starter does not get.
The annual plan bills $14 per user per month. On November 1, 2026, the introductory offer cut that to $8.40 for 12 months, for up to 20 users. The rest of the price buys business email, 2 TB of pooled storage per user and meeting recording, for up to 300 users. My Google Workspace pricing guide compares every edition beyond NotebookLM.
Standard is the right buy when the team would pay for Workspace anyway. For 10 or more people who only want NotebookLM, the Cloud license below costs less at Business Standard’s $14 annual-plan list price.
Google Workspace Business Plus and Workspace Enterprise
Business Plus shows the same NotebookLM rows as Standard: expanded access and up to 20 Audio Overviews per day. Business Plus costs $22 per user per month on the annual plan, and the extra pays for Vault, eDiscovery and 5 TB of pooled storage per user, which serve compliance staff, not researchers.
Workspace Enterprise is quote-only: its card reads “Let’s talk” and sends buyers to sales. Choose Plus for retention and eDiscovery, never as a NotebookLM upgrade over Standard.
NotebookLM for Enterprise on Google Cloud
The $9 license is the pick for 10 or more people who need NotebookLM and nothing else, or who need Microsoft 365 files as sources. Google Cloud bills $9 per license per month after a 30-day trial, with a minimum of 15 licenses, so the smallest bill is $9 x 15 = $135 a month.

Each license adds Microsoft 365 and Workspace sources, shared notebooks with usage analytics, and extra privacy and security controls such as VPC-SC and IAM. The minimum is the catch for small teams: five people still pay for all 15 licenses. Five Business Standard users on the annual plan cost $14 x 5 = $70 a month.
At 10 people, Business Standard reaches $14 x 10 = $140 a month, already above the license’s floor, so at Business Standard’s $14 annual-plan list price the license is the cheaper NotebookLM-only route from 10 people up.
Gemini Enterprise Business
Buy Gemini Enterprise Business only if the team wants Google’s AI agents and data connectors too. Gemini Enterprise Business starts at $21 per seat per month for up to 300 seats. It includes Gemini Notebook for enterprise, connectors to Microsoft 365, HubSpot and Jira, and a no-code Workflow Builder.
The Standard and Plus editions start at $30 per seat per month through sales and add enterprise compliance features in Gemini Notebook for enterprise. For NotebookLM alone the suite is the expensive route: 15 seats cost $21 x 15 = $315 a month.
Monthly vs Annual NotebookLM Pricing
On Google Workspace, the annual plan is the cheaper way to pay. Business Standard costs $14 per user per month on the annual plan, which Google labels “Annual (Save 16% with 1 year commitment)”. With that switch off, the same plan costs $16.80 per user per month, billed monthly. Google’s subscriptions page prints Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra as monthly prices.
| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual plan | Per user per year, monthly billing | Per user per year, annual plan |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Business Starter | $8.40 per month | $7 per month | $8.40 x 12 = $100.80 | $7 x 12 = $84 |
| Business Standard | $16.80 per month | $14 per month | $16.80 x 12 = $201.60 | $14 x 12 = $168 |
| Business Plus | $26.40 per month | $22 per month | $26.40 x 12 = $316.80 | $22 x 12 = $264 |
Sources: Google Workspace pricing, Annual and Monthly views, checked November 2026.
Each annual price is 0.833 times its monthly-billing price on the Google Workspace pricing page, which is where the “Save 16%” label comes from. I would pay monthly only while the headcount is still settling.
Introductory prices, as read on November 1, 2026, apply to a new customer’s first 20 users for 12 months:
- Business Starter: $4.20 per user per month on monthly billing, shown as 50% off for 12 months.
- Business Starter: $3.50 per user per month on the annual plan.
- Business Standard: $10.08 per user per month on monthly billing, shown as 40% off for 12 months.
- Business Standard: $8.40 per user per month on the annual plan.
After 12 months, standard pricing applies to all users, so treat these figures as a snapshot of that date, not a lasting price.
How Much Does NotebookLM Cost for Your Team?
A 5-person team pays $19.99 x 5 = $99.95 a month if each person buys Google AI Pro. On Business Standard’s annual plan, the same five people pay $14 x 5 = $70 a month.
The $9 Cloud license undercuts Business Standard from 10 people at Business Standard’s $14 annual-plan list price, and uses every license it bills from 15. During a new customer’s introductory year, as read on November 1, 2026, Business Standard’s annual plan drops to $8.40 per user per month for up to 20 users. Then 15 people pay $8.40 x 15 = $126 a month against $9 x 15 = $135 on the license.
NotebookLM cost calculator
This calculator needs JavaScript. The scenario table below gives the same estimate for typical workloads.
Enter what you need. The calculator prices it on every plan at list prices and names the cheapest plan that covers it.
- List prices in USD from NotebookLM’s official pricing pages, checked Nov 1, 2026. Tax and regional prices are not included.
- 12-month figures are 12 times the monthly cost at the billing you choose.
- A planning estimate at list prices, not a quote.
The calculator takes the number of people, the Workspace billing choice (annual plan or monthly) and the needs that decide the plan, such as 300+ sources per notebook or Microsoft 365 files as sources. It shows every plan side by side with its monthly and 12-month cost and names the cheapest plan that covers your needs. It leaves out tax, regional prices and AI credits, and its presets are the illustrative inputs of the rows below.
| Team size | Plan | Billing | Monthly equivalent | Annual total | Assumptions |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 researcher | Google AI Pro | Monthly | $19.99 | $19.99 x 12 = $239.88 | Needs 300 sources per notebook; excludes tax |
| 5 people on personal plans | Google AI Pro | Monthly | $19.99 x 5 = $99.95 | $19.99 x 5 x 12 = $1,199.40 | Five separate personal subscriptions; excludes tax |
| 5 people, new Workspace customer | Business Standard introductory | Annual plan | $8.40 x 5 = $42 | $8.40 x 5 x 12 = $504 | Introductory price as read on November 1, 2026, first 12 months, then $14 x 5 = $70 a month; excludes tax |
| 15 people with Microsoft 365 files | NotebookLM for enterprise | Monthly, after a 30-day trial | $9 x 15 = $135 | $9 x 15 x 12 = $1,620 | Exactly the 15-license minimum; NotebookLM only, no email; excludes tax |
| 25 people on Workspace | Business Standard | Annual plan | $14 x 25 = $350 | $14 x 25 x 12 = $4,200 | List price; first year with the introductory price on 20 users: $8.40 x 20 x 12 = $2,016 plus $14 x 5 x 12 = $840, which is $2,856; monthly billing: $16.80 x 25 x 12 = $5,040; excludes tax |
Sources: Google AI plans, Google Workspace pricing, Gemini Notebook for enterprise, checked November 2026.
At list prices, 15 people on Business Standard’s annual plan cost $14 x 15 = $210 a month, more than the license minimum. Google AI Plus ($4.99 x 15 = $74.85) and Business Starter ($7 x 15 = $105) cost less for 15 people, but Plus stops at 100 sources per notebook and Starter gets basic NotebookLM access only.
These totals are estimates from list prices; the invoice adds tax on Business Starter and Business Standard and rises when an introductory year ends.
Which NotebookLM Plan Should You Choose?
Start with the cheapest plan that clears the limit you actually hit; the first row is the reader who needs no upgrade.
| Your needs | Plan to consider | Why | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light use, under 50 sources per notebook | Free | No cost with a Google Account | 5-hour refresh and a weekly limit |
| Your work account already has NotebookLM | Skip paying and ask your admin | It is a core service on Workspace and Workspace for Education | Higher limits need an upgraded Workspace license |
| Solo user who hits the free limit | Google AI Plus | Double the limits and 100 sources per notebook | Stops at 100 sources |
| Daily solo research | Google AI Pro | Four times the limits, 300 sources and the watermark toggle | Needs a personal Google Account you manage yourself |
| Notebooks past 300 sources | Google AI Ultra (5x) | Up to 600 sources and 5x the Pro limits | Priced for Google’s whole AI bundle |
| A team that also needs email and Docs | Business Standard | Expanded access and 20 Audio Overviews per day | Up to 300 users |
| 10 or more people who need only NotebookLM or Microsoft 365 sources | NotebookLM for enterprise | Microsoft 365 sources, VPC-SC and IAM controls | Minimum 15 licenses |
Sources: Gemini Notebook plans, work and school accounts help page, Google Workspace pricing, checked November 2026.
When two rows fit, let the payer decide: a person paying for themselves buys a Google AI plan, and a company paying for its staff buys Workspace or the license.
Additional NotebookLM Costs to Consider
Tax sits on top of Business Starter and Business Standard prices, introductory prices end after 12 months, the Cloud license bills at least 15 licenses, and work accounts can add NotebookLM add-ons.
| Cost type | When it applies | Pricing basis | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sales tax | Business Starter and Business Standard | The per-user price “does not include tax” | Budget your local rate on top |
| End of the introductory price | New Workspace customers after 12 months | Standard price for all users | The offer covers only the first 20 users added |
| Monthly billing | Workspace without the annual plan | Monthly-billing rates in the table above | The lower annual price needs a 1-year commitment |
| License minimum | NotebookLM for enterprise | 15 licenses at $9 per license per month | A smaller team pays for unused licenses |
| AI Expanded Access or AI Ultra Access | Work accounts that need more NotebookLM access | Not listed on the help page | Named as NotebookLM add-ons in Google’s help center |
| Regional availability | Google AI plans | Sold only in specific regions | Google AI plans are for ages 18+ |

Eligible students can get a free year of a Google AI plan, and schools buy through Workspace for Education.
Student, Education and Cancellation Terms
Google’s student-offer blog post of August 19, 2026, gives eligible US college students one year of Google AI Pro free, then $19.99 a month unless cancelled, redeemable until December 31, 2026. A valid form of payment is required at sign-up, so set a reminder before the free year ends. Outside the US, eligible students get a free year of Google AI Plus, which then charges $4.99 a month or the local currency equivalent.
Schools buy through Google Workspace for Education, where NotebookLM is a core service in Education Fundamentals, Education Standard and Education Plus. For Workspace for Education users, NotebookLM is available at any age.
For the personal plans, Google’s subscriptions page states: “Cancel anytime. No refunds for partial billing periods, except as required by applicable law.” Cancel close to the end of a billing month, because the unused part comes back only where the law requires it.
Is NotebookLM Worth the Price?
Paying is worth it when a named limit stops your weekly work. It is not worth it for occasional use, or when your work account already includes NotebookLM.
For one-off projects, the free cap of 50 sources per notebook and a quota that refreshes every 5 hours go a long way. If you hit neither, a subscription buys storage and Gemini app access you may not need. Before you pay, get more out of each notebook; my Gemini Notebook prompts collection has ready-made prompts for research notebooks.
For a daily researcher, Google AI Pro earns its price once the source cap or the quota interrupts work every week, and its 5 TB of storage can replace a separate storage plan. For teams, Business Standard is worth it when the team needs Workspace’s email and Docs too, and the license is worth it for NotebookLM-only teams of 10 or more.
- Skip it if:
- your notebooks stay under 50 sources, you rarely wait for the 5-hour refresh, or your employer’s Workspace account already gives you NotebookLM.
Google describes model access by tier only as access, higher access and highest access, so answer quality between tiers is yours to judge. Run your own sources through the free tier, the 14-day Workspace trial or the 30-day license trial before you commit. If you have never built a notebook, my guide on how to use NotebookLM is the place to start.
How I Verified NotebookLM Pricing
I read every price on Google’s own pages on November 1, 2026, in US dollars. For personal plans, that meant the Google AI subscriptions page in its United States view, the Gemini Notebook plans page and four Gemini Notebook help center pages. For business plans, it meant the Google Workspace pricing page in both its Annual and Monthly billing views and the Google Cloud page for Gemini Notebook for enterprise, plus Google’s student-offer blog post.
The pages I read list no price for Workspace Enterprise or for the AI Expanded Access and AI Ultra Access add-ons. Every total is a list price multiplied by people and months, before tax, add-ons or AI credits; recheck the plans page before a large purchase.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is NotebookLM the same as Gemini Notebook?
Yes. Google’s plans page says “NotebookLM is now Gemini Notebook as of July 2026”, and existing notebooks stay fully accessible. The paid tiers now read Gemini Notebook in Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra, and the business license is Gemini Notebook for enterprise, so search for both names when you compare offers.
How much does NotebookLM Plus cost?
The personal tier that matches “Plus” is Gemini Notebook in Google AI Plus, at $4.99 a month, which lifts the source cap from 50 to 100 per notebook. If you meant the business tier, it sits in Google Workspace Business Standard, with expanded access for $14 per user per month on the annual plan.
Is my company’s data used to train the model?
No. Google’s plans page says it never uses an organization’s data to train Gemini Notebook. Its help center adds that Workspace users’ uploads, queries and responses are not reviewed by human reviewers or used to train AI models. On a personal account, data is not used for training unless you share feedback.
Final Pricing Verdict
Stay on the free tier until a limit bites. When one does, a heavy solo user should buy Google AI Pro, the tier I would pick for daily research because 300 sources per notebook and four times the standard quota cover most projects.
A team that buys Workspace anyway should take Business Standard at $14 per user per month on the annual plan. Ten or more people who need only NotebookLM should license it on Google Cloud at $9 per license per month, accepting the 15-license minimum.
Skip Google AI Ultra unless a notebook truly needs 600 sources, and skip paying altogether if your work account already includes NotebookLM.
