Shopify pricing in the US runs $39, $105 or $399 a month on monthly billing for Basic, Grow and Advanced, or $29, $89 or $359 a month billed yearly, plus 2.9% to 2.5% + 30¢ per online card sale on Shopify Payments. For an owner selling alone, Basic on yearly billing is the place to start: $29 x 12 = $348 a year before fees.
The card fees, not the plan, decide when a bigger plan becomes the cheaper one. Below, I work out that point from Shopify’s US prices, checked November 2026.
Quick pricing answer
Shopify’s US store plans cost $39 a month billed monthly or $29 a month billed yearly on Basic, $105 or $89 on Grow, and $399 or $359 on Advanced. Plus starts at $2,300 a month on a 3-year term.
- Trial: 3 days free, then $1 a month for 3 months.
- Solo owner: start on Basic; the first staff login moves you to Grow.
- The cost to watch: on Basic, card fees of 2.9% + 30¢ per online sale pass the $29 plan price once online sales reach $29 / 0.029 = $1,000 a month.
- Free option: the $0 Agentic plan sells in AI channels and other Shopify channels such as Shop, but can’t publish an online store or sell through its checkout.
- Checked: November 2026, US prices in US dollars.

These are US list prices in US dollars from the US version of shopify.com/pricing as captured on November 4, 2026. The screenshot below is an Internet Archive copy of that US view, taken on November 4, 2026. Yearly billing charges the full year upfront in one bill, and the pricing page does not state whether plan prices include sales tax.

Pricing note
Shopify shows plan prices adjusted to the local cost of living in some regions, so a visitor outside the US can see lower numbers on the same page. Every price in this guide is the US set.
If Shopify itself is still an open question, my ranking of the best website builders for small businesses sets it against simpler store builders. For a store that does pick Shopify, the plan is only part of the bill, so the next question is what each plan adds for its price.
Shopify Pricing Plans Explained
Basic is a one-login store, Grow adds staff accounts and lower card rates, Advanced raises the staff limit to 15 accounts, and Plus is a term contract for complex stores. Each plan’s trigger is different, and only one of them is the sales level.
Basic: $39 monthly or $29 a month billed yearly
Basic covers an owner who runs the store alone. It includes the full-featured online store, 10 inventory locations and 24/7 live chat support, and it comes with access to all reports, including custom reports, so reporting is no reason to move up.
Two gaps decide when Basic stops working. The plan doesn’t support staff accounts, and it can’t turn on third-party carrier-calculated shipping; Shopify’s Basic plan page names Grow, Advanced and Plus as the plans that can, so that gap points to Grow first. The first person who needs their own login, a part-time packer or a freelancer who edits products, forces Grow at any sales level.
Basic also carries the highest fees: 2.9% + 30¢ per online card sale on Shopify Payments, and a 2% third-party transaction fee on orders paid through another provider, both on Shopify’s plan comparison. I would stay on Basic until a staff login or the Grow break-even below arrives, whichever comes first.
Grow: $105 monthly or $89 a month billed yearly
Grow earns its extra $89 – $29 = $60 a month on yearly billing when someone else needs a login or online card sales pass $60 / 0.002 = $30,000 a month. It supports 5 staff accounts, cuts the online card rate to 2.7% + 30¢ and halves the third-party fee to 1%.
Five accounts cover an owner with a few helpers. A sixth person in the admin means Advanced, the next plan up at $359 a month billed yearly.
The yearly discount is a smaller percentage on Grow than on Basic (the billing table below has the numbers), so prepaying a year of Grow makes sense only once you know the team will stay that size.
- Skip it if:
- you sell alone below that break-even on Shopify Payments: the lower rate then saves you less than the price gap to Basic.
Advanced: $399 monthly or $359 a month billed yearly
Advanced costs $359 – $89 = $270 a month more than Grow on yearly billing, and it has to earn that through features before fees. It raises the staff limit to 15 accounts, lists live third-party shipping rates, lets you tailor the store by region (a theme, checkout and customer account pages for each market) and moves support to enhanced 24/7 chat.
On card fees alone, the step barely moves. The pricing page lists 2.5% + 30¢ against Grow’s 2.7% + 30¢, a 0.2-point cut that covers the $270 gap only past $270 / 0.002 = $135,000 a month in online card sales.
Live shipping rates are a weak reason on their own. Shopify’s Basic plan page names Grow, Advanced and Plus as the plans that can activate third-party carrier-calculated shipping, so check how Grow handles it in your admin before paying more for rates alone.
- Skip it if:
- your team fits in 5 staff accounts and you sell one storefront to one market: the Grow plan does that job for $89 a month billed yearly instead of Advanced’s $359.
Shopify Plus: from $2,300 a month on a 3-year term
Shopify Plus costs $2,300 a month on a 3-year term or $2,500 a month on a 1-year term in US dollars, and complex, higher-volume businesses can owe a variable platform fee based on revenue and business model on top.
The move to Plus comes from limits Advanced can’t lift: unlimited staff accounts instead of 15, 200 inventory locations instead of 10, unlimited B2B catalogs instead of 3, a fully customizable checkout, up to 9 expansion stores and 20 POS Pro locations included.
The card rate is no reason by itself. Plus’s 2.25% + 30¢ on the Shopify pricing page is 0.25 points under Advanced, so the rate covers the $2,300 – $359 = $1,941 price gap only past $1,941 / 0.0025 = $776,400 a month in online card sales.
The Plus trial is paid: $399 USD per month for 1 to 2 months, and a store that takes no action by its end is enrolled in a full Plus plan. Treat Plus as a 1-year or 3-year term contract: eligible stores start the trial from the Shopify admin, and the Plus sales team answers questions.
Agentic: $0 a month for selling in AI channels
The Agentic plan is not a free Shopify store. It has no monthly subscription fee, and it adds your products to Shopify Catalog so buyers can find and buy them in AI channels and other Shopify channels such as the Shop channel.
You can build an online store on Agentic, but it stays password protected: publishing it or taking orders at its checkout needs a paid plan. Selling gift cards, creating orders manually and Shopify Messaging aren’t available either.
Sales still cost money. An order paid in an AI channel’s direct checkout carries the Agentic plan‘s payment fees, Shopify Payments rates or third-party fees depending on your provider, and the pricing page lists card rates from 2.9% + 30¢ online. Agentic fits a brand that sells on another commerce platform and wants AI-channel sales without migrating; skip it if you need a store customers can visit.
Card rates decide when Grow pays for itself over Basic, so they are the next cost to price.
Shopify Transaction Fees and Card Rates by Plan
On Shopify Payments, Shopify takes 2.9% + 30¢ per online card sale on Basic, 2.7% + 30¢ on Grow, 2.5% + 30¢ on Advanced and 2.25% + 30¢ on Plus, with no third-party transaction fee. With another payment provider, the pricing plans and billing overview adds Shopify’s fee of 2%, 1%, 0.6% or 0.2% per order, and the provider charges its own card rate on top.
| Rate | Basic | Grow | Advanced | Plus |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Online standard card rate | 2.9% + 30¢ | 2.7% + 30¢ | 2.5% + 30¢ | 2.25% + 30¢ |
| Online premium card rate | 3.5% + 30¢ | 3.3% + 30¢ | 3.1% + 30¢ | 2.95% + 30¢ |
| Online international rate | + 1% | + 1% | + 1% | + 1% |
| In-person card rate | 2.6% + 10¢ | 2.5% + 10¢ | 2.4% + 10¢ | 2.3% + 10¢ |
| PayPal wallet rate | From 3.49% + 49¢ | Same as Basic | Same as Basic | Same as Basic |
| Third-party transaction fee | 2% | 1% | 0.6% | 0.2% |
Sources: Shopify’s pricing page and pricing plans and billing overview, checked Nov 2026.
Basic’s online card rate through Shopify Payments is 2.9% + 30¢, as the Shopify pricing page lists it.
On an invented order of 20 US dollars, 2.9% of the order plus 30¢ is 20 x 0.029 = 0.58, plus 0.30, is 0.88 US dollars; on an invented order of 100 US dollars the same rate and fixed fee are 100 x 0.029 + 0.30 = 3.20 US dollars.
The fixed 30¢ is 30 of the 88 cents on the 20-dollar order but only 30 of the 320 cents on the 100-dollar order, which is why a store of small orders feels the per-order charge more. Keep a third-party gateway on Basic, at its 2% third-party transaction fee, and the 100-dollar order adds 100 x 0.02 = 2 dollars to Shopify before the provider takes its own rate.
No third-party fee applies to orders paid with Shopify Payments, Shop Pay, Shop Pay Installments or manual methods such as cash, cash on delivery and bank transfers. PayPal is exempt too when Shopify Payments is your primary provider.
One edge case catches newer stores: on stores created on or after May 12, 2025, the third-party fee also applies to the part of an order paid with store credit or gift cards, even on Shopify Payments. A store created on or after that date whose customers pay with many gift cards or store credit should count that part of its sales at the plan’s third-party rate.
These rates start with the first sale, while the subscription itself costs almost nothing during the trial.
Does Shopify Have a Free Plan or Trial?
No store plan is free: Shopify offers 3 days free, then $1 a month for 3 months, and the only $0 plan, Agentic, can’t publish an online store. Through the end of that promotion, a new store pays 3 x $1 = $3 in subscription charges, then the plan’s standard price.
The trial store starts in private mode or with its checkout inactive, and it opens for orders once you choose a paid plan. If you don’t choose a plan by the end of the trial, the store is frozen until you do, and nothing is charged.
Three terms matter for budgeting:
- The free trial can’t be extended, and Shopify doesn’t extend or reset free trials or promotional pricing.
- Trial length and promotional pricing can vary by store location and change over time.
- Apps you install during the trial are billed on your first invoice after it ends.
The Plus trial works differently: it is a paid trial at $399 USD per month. Once the $1 months end, the real choice is monthly or yearly billing.
Monthly vs Yearly Shopify Pricing
Yearly billing saves ($39 – $29) x 12 = $120 a year on Basic, ($105 – $89) x 12 = $192 on Grow and ($399 – $359) x 12 = $480 on Advanced, but Shopify charges the full year upfront, and subscription charges are non-refundable.
| Plan | Monthly billing | Yearly billing | 12 months, billed monthly | 12 months, billed yearly | Saving |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $39 per month | $29 per month | $39 x 12 = $468 | $29 x 12 = $348 | ($39 – $29) x 12 = $120 |
| Grow | $105 per month | $89 per month | $105 x 12 = $1,260 | $89 x 12 = $1,068 | ($105 – $89) x 12 = $192 |
| Advanced | $399 per month | $359 per month | $399 x 12 = $4,788 | $359 x 12 = $4,308 | ($399 – $359) x 12 = $480 |
Sources: Shopify’s pricing page, checked Nov 2026.
The discount shrinks as the plan grows: ($39 – $29) / $39 = 26% on Basic, ($105 – $89) / $105 = 15% on Grow and ($399 – $359) / $399 = 10% on Advanced. Prepaying $359 x 12 = $4,308 for that last cut is a bet on staying on Advanced all year, while prepaying a year of Basic is a small bet once the store sells every week.
My rule: pay monthly while you’re still testing whether the store sells, and switch to yearly once a few months of steady orders make the plan choice safe.
Refunds, cancellation and billing cycles
Shopify doesn’t refund subscription charges, so a yearly prepayment is money you won’t get back if the store closes in month three. To cancel, you deactivate the store: that stops subscription payments, and Shopify keeps the store’s information for 2 years in case you reopen it.
The standard billing cycle is 30 days, and you can’t choose the date you’re charged. Apps bill on their own cycles, so cancel app subscriptions too when you deactivate, or they keep charging.
The subscription is fixed once you pick a billing cycle; the charges that grow with the store come next.
Additional Shopify Costs to Consider
Beyond the plan and its card rates, Shopify publishes charges for POS Pro, marketplace sync, PayPal and gift-card orders, and leaves apps, paid themes and partner work to the people who sell them.
| Cost type | When it applies | Pricing basis | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| POS Pro | A physical store or counter | POS Pro add-on: $89 per month per location | Advanced point-of-sale features for each retail location |
| Marketplace sync | Over 50 synced marketplace orders a month | 1% up to $99 per month | The first 50 synced orders a month are free |
| PayPal wallet | Buyers pay with PayPal | From 3.49% + 49¢ | No third-party fee when Shopify Payments is primary |
| Store credit and gift cards | Stores created on or after May 12, 2025 | The plan’s third-party transaction fee on that part of the order | Applies even on Shopify Payments |
| Advanced tax platform | An add-on on every plan | Not listed on the pricing page | Ask Shopify for the price before you count on it |
| Apps | Any paid app | Not part of the plan price; app subscriptions bill on their own cycle | Charged on the Shopify bill |
| Themes and partner work | A paid theme or custom development | One-time theme purchases; Shopify Plus Partners for custom work | Not priced by Shopify |
| Plus late capture | Plus extended authorization | 1.75% when capturing after the standard 7-day period | Plus only |
Sources: Shopify’s pricing page, pricing plans and billing overview and Shopify Plus plan, checked Nov 2026.
For a store with a counter, POS Pro is the line that changes the budget: one POS Pro location costs $89 x 12 = $1,068 a year. That matches a full year of the Grow plan on yearly billing. App charges are not part of Shopify’s plan price but land on the same Shopify bill, so list the apps your store needs before you compare plans.
With every part known, the next step is the bill for a whole year.
How Much Does Shopify Cost for Your Store?
A US store pays from $29 x 12 = $348 a year on Basic billed yearly, for an owner selling alone, to $359 x 12 = $4,308 a year on Advanced for a team of 10, before card fees.
Shopify plan cost calculator
This calculator needs JavaScript. The scenario table below gives the same estimate for typical workloads.
Enter what you need. The calculator prices it on every plan at list prices and names the cheapest plan that covers it.
- List prices in USD from Shopify’s official pricing pages, checked Nov 4, 2026. Tax and regional prices are not included.
- 12-month figures are 12 times the monthly cost at the billing you choose.
- A planning estimate at list prices, not a quote.
The calculator asks how you’ll be billed and which features you need (staff accounts, more than 5 of them, a store tailored by market), then shows Basic, Grow and Advanced side by side with the cheapest plan that covers the need. It leaves out card fees, apps, POS Pro, tax and regional prices; the sales-level table further down adds the card fees.
| Team size | Plan | Billing | Monthly equivalent | Annual total | Assumptions |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Solo seller, no staff | Basic | Yearly | $29 | $29 x 12 = $348 | Owner only; excludes card fees, apps, POS Pro and tax |
| Solo seller, month to month | Basic | Monthly | $39 | $39 x 12 = $468 | No prepayment; excludes card fees, apps, POS Pro and tax |
| Small team, 1 to 5 staff accounts | Grow | Yearly | $89 | $89 x 12 = $1,068 | Up to 5 staff accounts; excludes card fees, apps, POS Pro and tax |
| Team of 10 staff accounts | Advanced | Yearly | $359 | $359 x 12 = $4,308 | Up to 15 staff accounts; excludes card fees, apps, POS Pro and tax |

These totals are list prices x 12 months, not quotes. For a store taking real orders, the card fees soon outgrow every number in the table.
What a store pays per month at three sales levels
Take an illustrative store that sells online through Shopify Payments on yearly billing, with an invented average order of 50 US dollars at three invented order counts: 100 orders x 50 = 5,000, 500 orders x 50 = 25,000 and 2,000 orders x 50 = 100,000 in monthly sales.
On the Basic plan, at $29 a month billed yearly and 2.9% + 30¢ per online sale, the first level costs 29 + 5,000 x 0.029 + 100 x 0.30 = 204 a month and the second 29 + 25,000 x 0.029 + 500 x 0.30 = 904, the cheapest plan at both. On the Grow plan, at $89 a month billed yearly and 2.7% + 30¢, the third level costs 89 + 100,000 x 0.027 + 2,000 x 0.30 = 3,389, the cheapest plan there.
Each cell below, in US dollars, is the plan’s yearly-billed monthly price + sales x the online card rate + 0.30 x orders.
| Monthly online sales | Orders | Basic (2.9% + 30¢) | Grow (2.7% + 30¢) | Advanced (2.5% + 30¢) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5,000 | 100 | 29 + 5,000 x 0.029 + 100 x 0.30 = 204 | 89 + 5,000 x 0.027 + 100 x 0.30 = 254 | 359 + 5,000 x 0.025 + 100 x 0.30 = 514 |
| 25,000 | 500 | 29 + 25,000 x 0.029 + 500 x 0.30 = 904 | 89 + 25,000 x 0.027 + 500 x 0.30 = 914 | 359 + 25,000 x 0.025 + 500 x 0.30 = 1,134 |
| 100,000 | 2,000 | 29 + 100,000 x 0.029 + 2,000 x 0.30 = 3,529 | 89 + 100,000 x 0.027 + 2,000 x 0.30 = 3,389 | 359 + 100,000 x 0.025 + 2,000 x 0.30 = 3,459 |
Sources: illustrative example store; plan prices and online standard card rates from Shopify’s pricing page, checked Nov 2026.
At 25,000 dollars a month the subscription is 29 of a 904-dollar bill, so the plan price barely matters next to the rate.
The Grow plan costs 89 + 25,000 x 0.027 + 500 x 0.30 = 914 that month at its 2.7% + 30¢ rate, so Basic and Grow are 914 – 904 = 10 dollars apart there, which is why the switch point sits just above that level. A third-party gateway on Basic, at its 2% third-party transaction fee, would add 25,000 x 0.02 = 500 dollars a month to Shopify before the provider’s own rate.
When an Upgrade Pays for Itself
On yearly billing with Shopify Payments, Grow becomes the cheaper plan once online card sales pass $60 / 0.002 = $30,000 a month, where $89 – $29 = $60 is its price gap and 0.2 points its rate gap. For the Advanced plan over the Grow plan, the yearly-billed plan price gap is $359 – $89 = $270 a month and the rate gap is again 0.2 points, so Advanced becomes the cheaper plan only past $270 / 0.002 = $135,000 a month.
The formula is the plan price gap divided by the rate gap, because the 30¢ per order is the same on every plan. With a third-party gateway, the rate gap becomes the fee gap, so the points drop to $60 / 0.01 = $6,000 a month for Grow and $270 / 0.004 = $67,500 for Advanced, from the same plan price gaps. On monthly billing, Grow’s gap is $105 – $39 = $66, which moves its point to $66 / 0.002 = $33,000 a month.
Shopify’s own estimates sit below these points. Its choosing-a-plan page puts the US break-even at $200,000 a year for Grow on Shopify Payments ($200,000 / 12 = about $16,667 a month) and $60,000 a year without ($60,000 / 12 = $5,000 a month), and at $1,320,000 a year for Advanced ($1,320,000 / 12 = $110,000 a month) and $528,000 a year without ($528,000 / 12 = $44,000 a month). It says the actual point may vary.
I base the recommendations on the list-price math above, because it uses the prices you’ll be billed. For a gateway user, Shopify’s pricing FAQ gives a simpler test: consider upgrading when the third-party fees you pay exceed the difference between your plan’s monthly charge and the next plan’s.
Which Shopify Plan Should You Choose?
Choose Basic on yearly billing if you sell alone and stay below the Grow break-even, Grow once anyone else needs a login or sales pass that point, and Advanced for 6 to 15 staff accounts or a store tailored by market.
| Your needs | Plan to consider | Why | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Testing an idea, sales not steady yet | Basic, billed monthly | $39 a month, nothing prepaid, nothing to lose to the no-refund rule | ($39 – $29) x 12 = $120 more over a year than yearly billing |
| Selling alone, below the Grow break-even | Basic, billed yearly | $29 a month; Grow’s lower rate saves less than its price gap | No staff accounts |
| 1 to 5 staff accounts, or online card sales past the Grow break-even on Shopify Payments | Grow, billed yearly | 5 staff accounts and 2.7% + 30¢ online | 10 inventory locations, up to 3 B2B catalogs |
| Keeping a third-party payment provider | Grow once sales pass its gateway break-even, or move to Shopify Payments | Grow halves Shopify’s fee from 2% to 1% | The provider’s own card rate still applies |
| 6 to 15 staff accounts, or a store tailored by market | Advanced, billed yearly | 15 staff accounts; a theme and checkout for each market | $359 – $89 = $270 a month more than Grow |
| Selling only through AI channels | Agentic | No monthly subscription fee | Can’t publish an online store |
| More than 15 staff, unlimited B2B catalogs or full checkout control | Plus | Unlimited staff accounts, unlimited B2B catalogs, a fully customizable checkout | A 1-year or 3-year term from $2,300 a month |

Read the first row before the others: if sales aren’t steady yet, no upgrade and no prepayment is the right call.
Is Shopify Worth the Price?
Shopify is worth $29 to $359 a month plus card fees for a business whose website exists to sell. Checkout, inventory, in-person sales through POS and marketplace orders run from one admin, and the fee math above tells you when each bigger plan becomes the cheaper one.
It is a poor fit for a service business or a portfolio that takes a few payments a month. That site would pay for a plan built around products and inventory it doesn’t have, plus the same per-sale card fees. For that kind of site, compare Squarespace pricing and its fees on sales or Wix’s plan prices first, and read my Squarespace review if the open question is whether its store tools are enough.
Growth brings a different budget line. When the business needs sales pipelines, account management for wholesale buyers or a fuller customer history, I would price a CRM built for ecommerce stores as its own line beside the Shopify plan rather than upgrade the plan to get it.
How I Verified Shopify Pricing
Every price in this guide comes from Shopify’s US pricing page as captured on November 4, 2026, and from Shopify’s help center pages read on November 4, 2026: the US region, in US dollars. The help pages covered the pricing and billing overview, local pricing, the free trial, the pricing FAQ, each plan’s features, the Plus trial and choosing a plan.
Shopify shows lower local prices to visitors in some regions, so the US version of the pricing page set every price here. Three kinds of numbers stay apart: Shopify’s published prices and rates, Shopify’s own break-even estimates (labelled as such), and my calculations, which are list prices x 12 months or list rates applied to illustrative sales inputs. None of them is a quote.
Shopify does not publish a Starter price on the US pricing page, app, paid theme and partner prices, the amount of the Plus variable platform fee, a price for the Advanced tax platform add-on, or whether plan prices include sales tax.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Shopify still have a Starter plan?
Not on the US pricing page, which lists Basic, Grow, Advanced, Plus and Agentic. Shopify’s help center still describes a Starter plan for selling through product links on social media and messaging apps, with the Spotlight theme only and no staff accounts, collections or POS Pro, but that page states no price.
How much does Shopify cost per order?
On Basic with Shopify Payments, each online card order costs 2.9% of its value plus 30¢, and in person 2.6% + 10¢, as the Shopify pricing page lists. The plan adds little per order once volume grows: Basic’s $29 a month spread over 100 orders is $29 / 100 = $0.29 an order.
Can I use PayPal without paying the third-party fee?
Yes, if Shopify Payments is your primary payment provider: PayPal transactions are then exempt from third-party transaction fees, per the pricing plans FAQ. PayPal’s wallet rate, from 3.49% + 49¢, still applies, so a card paid through Shopify Payments costs less per sale.
Do Shopify prices differ outside the US?
Yes. Shopify bills subscriptions in US dollars, euros, British pounds or Indian rupees depending on location, and a new store in a region with local pricing sees those prices automatically. Local pricing applies only to subscription plan rates, not to the card rates in this guide.
Can I switch plans later?
Yes, from your Shopify admin. During the free trial a new plan takes effect immediately, and billing still starts when the trial ends. When you downgrade from the Plus trial, any staff accounts, locations or markets above the new plan’s limits are deactivated automatically.
Final Pricing Verdict
Start on Basic: monthly while sales are uncertain, yearly at $29 a month once they’re steady. Move to Grow at the first staff login or once online card sales on Shopify Payments pass the Grow break-even: $89 – $29 = $60, and $60 / 0.002 = $30,000 a month.
Treat Advanced and Plus as feature decisions, not fee decisions: Advanced for 6 to 15 staff accounts or a store per market, Plus for unlimited staff, B2B catalogs or full checkout control on a term contract. If your site takes only a few payments a month, compare a simpler builder such as Squarespace or Wix first.
