Freshsales vs Close comes down to how your reps sell: Close for phone-and-SMS outbound teams, Freshsales for cheaper workflows and sequences.
Close puts calls and SMS on every plan and adds a power dialer on Growth at $99 per user per month, billed annually. Freshsales starts basic workflows on Growth at $9 and sales sequences on Pro at $39, also billed annually.
I read both vendors’ pricing pages, plan matrices and help centers in October 2026 and priced teams of five and ten reps from those US list prices.

Quick verdict
The deciding difference is where each vendor spends your seat price: Close on built-in calling, SMS and dialers, Freshsales on pipeline automation per rep.
Pick Close if reps spend the day on the phone. Pick Freshsales if workflows, sequences and forecasting matter more than dialing speed.
For 5 reps on the plans that automate outreach, a year costs $39 x 5 x 12 = $2,340 on Freshsales Pro against $99 x 5 x 12 = $5,940 on Close Growth, before call minutes.

Key Differences Between Freshsales and Close
Four differences change a small sales team’s day: where automation starts, how reps call, how AI is billed and how you start free.
- Automation: Close’s automated workflows start on Growth, while Freshsales lists basic workflows on Growth, its cheapest paid plan.
- Calling: Close builds calling, SMS, call logging and phone numbers into every plan; Freshsales lists phone on Growth but no dialer mode.
- AI billing: Close gives every plan Chloe, an AI sales agent paid in monthly AI credits; Freshsales gates scoring to Pro and sells a chatbot agent per 100 sessions.
- Starting free: Freshsales Free covers 3 users; Close has a 14-day trial and a 1-user Solo plan.
Freshsales vs Close: Features Compared
Workflows start on a plan called Growth on both products, but most other jobs sit on different tiers, and Close’s tiers cost more per seat.
| Job | Freshsales | Close |

| Workflows | Growth (basic workflows) | Growth |
| Sales sequences or automated outreach | Pro | Growth |
| Calling from the CRM | Growth (chat, email and phone) | Every plan |

Calling, dialers and SMS: where Close has the advantage
Close fits reps who call and text at volume. Every Close plan makes calls, logs them and sends SMS; Growth adds a power dialer, and Scale adds a predictive dialer and call coaching.
The two dialers do different jobs. A power dialer rings leads one at a time, while a predictive dialer rings several at once and connects a rep only when someone answers.
Freshsales lists phone on Growth, with one-click calls, call logs and recordings. No power or predictive dialer and no call rate appear on its pricing page, and its SMS runs through a provider you connect.
Close passes telephony through at cost: most outbound calls run around $0.02 a minute, and numbers start at about $1 a month.
Whether Essentials covers a light calling team is weighed in my Close CRM review.
Verdict: Calling and SMS
Close fits better for reps who work call lists daily, from Growth. Call quality depends on your own lists, so run a one-hour call block in both trials first.
Workflow automation and sequences
Freshsales automates for less: basic workflows on Growth at $9 and sales sequences of emails, calls and SMS on Pro at $39 per user per month, billed annually. Close has no workflows on Solo or Essentials; its Growth workflows send email and SMS, drive calls, update records and assign leads.
Both pricing pages show that gate on the plan cards:

Sequences are what move a Freshsales team from Growth to Pro, and my full Freshsales review judges whether Pro earns that step.
Freshworks publishes no limits for basic workflows, so build your most branched rule in the trial before relying on Growth.
Verdict: Automation
Freshsales fits better on the cost of entry: simple rules at $9 a seat. For multichannel cadences it depends: Close’s Growth sends SMS and drives calls from numbers inside the CRM, at $99 a seat.
AI: Freddy vs Chloe
The two vendors bill AI differently. Close includes Chloe, an AI sales agent, on every plan with 500, 1,000, 1,500 or 2,000 AI credits per user per month from Solo to Scale.
Chloe’s batch calling and enrichment work on every plan, paid in credits plus telephony; Chloe inside workflows starts on Growth.
Freshsales puts rep-facing AI on Pro: Freddy scores every contact from historical data and flags the deals to focus on. Enterprise adds forecasting insights.
The Freddy AI Agent add-on, $49 per 100 sessions, is a customer-facing bot rather than a sales agent.
Verdict: AI
It depends on the job. Close fits a team that wants an agent to call and enrich leads; Freshsales fits a manager who wants contact scoring and deal insights at $39 a seat. Neither vendor states what one credit or one session produces.
Reporting and forecasting
Freshsales fits the manager who forecasts: Enterprise adds forecasting insights at $59 per user per month, billed annually. Close’s pricing matrix names no forecasting on any plan.
Close reports on activity instead. Every plan has activity dashboards and an opportunity funnel report, Growth adds a leaderboard and workflow reports, and Scale adds custom graphs in Explorer.
Verdict: Forecasting
Freshsales fits better for forecasting, on Enterprise. A Close team reads its pipeline in the funnel report but gets no forecast view by name.
Customizable fields, pipelines and permissions
Both products let you shape the CRM around your sales process. Freshsales’ features page lists custom fields (text, date pickers, checklists and formula fields) and multiple sales pipelines with their own deal stages, without tying either to a plan. Close’s plan matrix gives every plan 250 custom fields and lists pipelines as included on every plan.
Different needs force the top plan on each side. Freshsales teams move to Enterprise ($59) for custom modules, field-level permissions, a sandbox and audit logs; Close teams move to Scale ($139) for custom objects, customizable roles and lead visibility rules.
Verdict: Customization
Comparable in scope, cheaper on Freshsales: its top tier costs $139 – $59 = $80 less per seat each month. Close’s Scale also adds the predictive dialer, which a high-volume calling floor may need anyway.
Freshsales vs Close Pricing
Freshsales costs $9, $39 or $59 per user per month billed annually, or $11, $47 or $71 billed monthly, plus a Free plan for up to 3 users. Close costs $9, $35, $99 or $139 per user per month billed annually, or $19, $49, $109 or $149 billed monthly.

| Plan tier | Freshsales | Close |
|---|---|---|
| Free start or one user | Free: $0, up to 3 users | Solo: $9 annually, $19 monthly; 1 user |
| Team CRM | Growth: $9 annually, $11 monthly | Essentials: $35 annually, $49 monthly |
| Automated outreach | Pro: $39 annually, $47 monthly | Growth: $99 annually, $109 monthly |
| Admin control | Enterprise: $59 annually, $71 monthly | Scale: $139 annually, $149 monthly |

The first row is not like for like: Freshsales Free is a 3-user team plan at no cost, while Close Solo is a paid plan for one person. In the team CRM row, Close’s $35 Essentials still has no workflows; what it buys is calling and SMS for the whole team.
Close’s own pages differ on pipelines. Its plan picker says Essentials “adds pipelines and team-level visibility”, while its comparison matrix marks Pipelines as included on Solo too, so check pipelines in the trial if they are why you would buy Solo.
Monthly billing costs little extra on the outreach plans: $109 – $99 = $10 more per rep on Close Growth, $47 – $39 = $8 more on Freshsales Pro.
Add-ons change the bill on both sides. Freshsales sells Branded documents at $19 per user per month and the Freddy AI Agent at $49 per 100 sessions; my breakdown of Freshsales plans and add-ons covers each one.
Close bills its Call Assistant at $50 a month plus $0.02 a minute, and extra organizations at $50 per organization per month, with one free on Growth and Scale.
The first forced upgrade differs: a fourth user ends Freshsales Free, while a second user ends Close Solo.
Cost for a 5- and 10-rep team
On the outreach plans, 5 reps pay $39 x 5 x 12 = $2,340 a year on Freshsales Pro and $99 x 5 x 12 = $5,940 on Close Growth, billed annually.
| Team and job | Freshsales | Close |
|---|---|---|
| 5 reps, team CRM, annual | Growth: $9 x 5 x 12 = $540 | Essentials: $35 x 5 x 12 = $2,100 |
| 5 reps, outreach, annual | Pro: $39 x 5 x 12 = $2,340 | Growth: $99 x 5 x 12 = $5,940 |
| 5 reps, outreach, monthly | Pro: $47 x 5 x 12 = $2,820 | Growth: $109 x 5 x 12 = $6,540 |
| 10 reps, outreach, annual | Pro: $39 x 10 x 12 = $4,680 | Growth: $99 x 10 x 12 = $11,880 |
| 10 reps, admin control, annual | Enterprise: $59 x 10 x 12 = $7,080 | Scale: $139 x 10 x 12 = $16,680 |

Assumptions: list prices per user per month, every rep on the same plan, no tax, no add-ons, and no Close call minutes or phone numbers.
Close Growth costs about two and a half times Freshsales Pro at any team size, because both are flat per-seat prices.
Take an illustrative team of 5 reps who each talk 1,000 outbound minutes a month. At Close’s pass-through rate of about $0.02 a minute, calling adds $0.02 x 1,000 x 5 x 12 = $1,200 a year.
Integrations, Customer Support and Security
Both vendors claim over 100 integrations and offer API access, so the stack question is about your specific apps.
Close puts Zapier, Zoom, Calendly, Segment, ChatGPT and Claude on every plan, with API access and an event log. Its integrations directory adds Gmail and Microsoft 365 sync.
Freshsales connects through the Freshworks Marketplace, API access, webhooks and Slack, and syncs contacts two ways with Freshdesk, which suits a team already on Freshdesk.
Customer support is easier to size up on Close: every plan includes a 24/7 knowledge base and email support. Freshsales’ pricing page lists no support channel per plan, only crm-support@freshworks.com for questions about Freshsales or signup.
Close holds SOC 2 Type 2 compliance and offers two-factor authentication and Google SSO on every plan, with the SOC 2 Type II report on request. Freshworks encrypts data at rest with AES 256-bit and in transit with TLS 1.2, and its security page sends buyers to a Trust Center for certifications.
Verdict: Security review
Not enough evidence to compare. Close states its SOC 2 attestation openly; a Freshsales buyer with a security questionnaire should request Freshworks’ certifications through its Trust Center before signing.

A team that makes a few calls a day should still pick Freshsales, since Pro’s sequences include calls. If HubSpot is also on your list, open Freshsales vs HubSpot before you decide.
Switching Between Freshsales and Close
A move in either direction runs on file imports: Freshsales is not on Close’s migration list, and Freshsales imports CSV or XLSX files.
Freshsales to Close. Freshsales is missing from Close’s Import2 migration list. Leads go in through the Lead Importer as CSV or Excel files, up to 15MB per CSV, and notes, calls, emails and SMS do not move that way.
Close hangs every contact and opportunity on a Lead, so group Freshsales contacts by company name during the import. A CSV import can be undone from its History tab.
Close to Freshsales. Close exports data on every plan. Freshsales imports CSV or XLSX files up to 5MB each: contacts, accounts, deals, products, custom modules and sales goals.
Freshsales needs custom fields created first and a last name on every contact, and its migration guides cover Zoho, Pipedrive, Insightly and Salesforce, not Close.
On the Close side, undoing an import skips any lead a rep has already edited or emailed, so check the import before work starts.
How I Compared Freshsales and Close
The comparison rests on official pricing pages and documentation, checked October 21, 2026: both pricing pages on annual and monthly views, both plan matrices, and each vendor’s feature, integration, security and import pages.
I compared three plan pairs that do the same job (team CRM, automated outreach, admin control) on calling, automation, AI, reporting, customization, integrations, security and switching. Costs are list prices times seats times months; the terms follow what a CRM does for a sales team.
The plan cards on freshworks.com/crm/pricing list no dialer mode, call rate or support channel, and Close does not publish a forecasting feature. Neither states what an AI credit or bot session produces, so run one call block and one sequence in both trials.
FAQ
Are Freshsales, Freshsales Suite and Freshworks the same?
No. Freshworks is the company, and Freshsales is its sales CRM. Freshworks sells Freshsales, Freshmarketer and Freshsales Suite as separate products, each with Free, Growth, Pro and Enterprise plans, so check which edition a price belongs to.
Does Close have a free plan?
No. Close lists no free plan; its cheapest plan, Solo, costs $9 per user per month billed annually for 1 user. Close offers a 14-day free trial with no credit card and no contracts, and a 30-day money-back guarantee with a full refund.
Is Freshsales a good CRM for a small sales team?
For a budget-led team that wants workflows and sequences, yes on price: Growth costs $9 and Pro $39 per user per month, billed annually. The 21-day trial opens the fully loaded CRM, and an account that picks no plan afterwards is suspended.
What are the alternatives to Freshsales and Close?
For Freshsales, start with my Freshsales alternatives list, and read my Pipedrive vs Freshsales comparison if you want Pipedrive set against it. I have no separate Close alternatives page yet, so weigh Close through the review linked in the calling section above.
Final Verdict: Freshsales or Close?
Choose by selling motion: Close for outbound teams that will pay $99 per rep for a power dialer and SMS workflows, Freshsales for cheaper sequences and forecasting.
Choose Freshsales if
- Your team of up to 3 wants to start on the Free plan
- Sales sequences at $39 a seat cover your outreach
- Forecasting insights matter more than dialing speed
Choose Close if
- Reps dial lists daily and a power dialer replaces another tool
- SMS should run inside workflows from the CRM’s own numbers
- You want Chloe to batch-call and enrich leads on any plan, paid in AI credits
Who should skip each: a team whose reps rarely call should not buy Close, since it would pay $99 a seat on Growth mainly for automated outreach that Freshsales sells as sequences on Pro at $39. Avoid Freshsales if your floor runs on a power or predictive dialer, because its pricing page names neither.
