If you want email and SMS run for you on any ESP, call InboxArmy first: it prints a $1,500 monthly minimum for managed services, the one fee any agency here publishes. Klaviyo brands that want no long-term contract should start with Flowium, DTC brands that want a full retention team with Chronos, and multichannel brands past $10M with Darkroom.
I judged these best email marketing agencies for ecommerce brands from each agency’s own site, read on November 3, 2026, on stated client fit, platforms, services and published terms. The first slot on this list is a paid placement, labeled Sponsored. The other agencies are weighed against those criteria. Still choosing the platform the agency will run? Start with my ranking of ecommerce email platforms.
Quick verdict
This list is for US ecommerce founders and growth leads who want a team to run email and SMS, not another tool to learn.
Any ESP and a known price floor: InboxArmy. Klaviyo with no lock-in: Flowium. A full team with a stated client load: Chronos. Salesforce, Sailthru or Braze stacks: CodeCrew. Multichannel brands over $10M: Darkroom.
The trade-off runs through the whole list: only InboxArmy prints a fee, so shortlist on stated fit and terms, then let a scoped audit or project show you the work before you sign a retainer.

Sticky Digital
Best for: DTC brands on Shopify doing $5M–$100M+ in annual revenue, according to Sticky Digital
Names Recharge, Stay.ai and Ordergroove for its subscription churn work, per Sticky Digital.
Limit: its homepage leads with a free retention audit offer

InboxArmy
Best for: email and SMS run on any ESP
Supports 40+ ESPs and prints a monthly minimum for managed services.
Limit: ecommerce is one of 25+ industries it serves

Flowium
Best for: Klaviyo brands that want no long-term contract
Publishes its plan contents, no long-term contracts and a 2-year price lock.
Limit: quotes come only after a call

Chronos
Best for: a full retention team with a stated client load
States about 80 people looking after around 60 brands, with a full team from day one.
Limit: its homepage offers “Book time with Josh” (“From Josh Chin, founder”)

Darkroom
Best for: multichannel brands doing $10M+
States a typical fit of $10M–$500M in revenue across ecommerce, Amazon, retail and social.
Limit: calls its own fit poor under roughly $5M

How I Chose the Best Email Marketing Agencies for Ecommerce Brands
I built the ranking from each agency’s official service, pricing and contact pages and Klaviyo’s partner directory, checked November 2026. Every revenue or ROI number here is the agency’s own claim.
The must-have filter: ecommerce email or SMS listed as a service on the agency’s own page. The first slot on this list is a paid placement. The other agencies are weighed against these criteria, taken together rather than one after another: specialist or full-service focus, platform fit and Klaviyo status, stated client size, published price or contract terms, channels beyond email, and published team and onboarding detail.
Where two agencies sit close in the matrix, one published fact decides it: Flowium lists above Chronos because it puts its contract terms in writing, which I weighed over Chronos’s wider platform range. BMO Media lists above CodeCrew because it describes itself as a lifecycle and retention marketing agency, while CodeCrew also sells web services.
CodeCrew lists above Fuel Made, which shows a Klaviyo tier and a client band, because I weighed CodeCrew’s team of 40+ experts in email, SMS and loyalty marketing and its platforms beyond Klaviyo over those two facts. Darkroom lists above Lilo Social and Barrel because it publishes both a second lifecycle platform (Attentive) and a client band ($10M–$500M in revenue).
| Agency | Ads or SEO also sold | Klaviyo status | ESPs beyond Klaviyo | Price or terms | Stated client size |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sticky Digital | No (states it) | Platinum (claimed); Platinum Master (listed) | Not listed | Not listed | $5M–$100M+ |
| InboxArmy | No (states it) | Not listed | Yes | $1,500/ | Startup to enterprise |
| Flowium | Not listed | Elite Master (listed) | Not listed | No long-term contracts | Not listed |
| Chronos | Not listed | Master Elite (claimed, listed) | Yes | Not listed | Not listed |
| BMO Media | Not listed | Not listed | Yes | Not listed | Not listed |
| CodeCrew | Web services | Not listed | Yes | Not listed | Not listed |
| Fuel Made | Site builds, CRO | Master Elite (claimed, listed) | Not listed | Not listed | ~$10M–$50M+ (Klaviyo directory) |
| Darkroom | Paid media, Amazon | Not listed | Yes | Not listed | $10M–$500M |

| Barrel | Site builds, SEO | Not listed | Not listed | Budget bands | Not listed |
| Tinuiti | Search, social, TV | Elite Master (listed) | Not listed | Not listed | SMB offer |
| Retention Commerce | Retargeting ads | Not listed | Not listed | Not listed | Not listed |
Sources: the agency pages linked under the comparison table, Klaviyo’s agency partner directory and its entries for Flowium and Sticky Digital, checked November 2026. “Not listed”: the agency’s pages do not state it. Klaviyo status: “claimed” is the agency’s wording, “listed” the directory’s label, and “Not listed” means neither shows a tier.
Agency sites cannot show creative quality, deliverability results or who works your account, so treat the ranking as a shortlist: ask each finalist for the two case studies closest to your category and the person who ran them.
1. Sticky Digital: Best for Shopify Subscription Brands

- Starting price: no price on site; a free retention audit is the first step
- Klaviyo status: Klaviyo Platinum Partner, according to Sticky Digital; Platinum Master label in Klaviyo’s directory
- Services: email and SMS, loyalty, subscription retention, audits, reviews, push, wallet passes
- Capacity: “a small number of clients at a time,” per its services page
According to Sticky Digital, it works only in retention, for DTC brands on Shopify doing $5M–$100M+ in annual revenue, mostly in beauty, wellness, food and beverage, and apparel. That narrow fit lets a store tell from one page whether it sits inside the band.
Subscription churn is the specific job. According to Sticky Digital, it builds flows, cancellation interventions and winback sequences for brands on Recharge, Stay.ai and Ordergroove. Next to BMO Media, which also lists subscription work, Sticky Digital names the apps and a revenue band, which my profile of Sticky Digital covers in more detail.
Read its site as claims, though the partner claim checks out: Klaviyo’s directory lists Sticky Digital with the Platinum Master label. The services page says it does no paid media, SEO or brand design, while the homepage also lists conversion rate optimization; ask which the retainer covers. The homepage says it was “Voted #1 Retention Marketing Agency In North America 2023 + 2024” without naming who ran the vote.
There is no fee, minimum or contract term on Sticky Digital’s homepage or services page. The first step is a free retention audit, and its site banner offers a complimentary BFCM audit this season.

- Price: no price on site; free audit first
Sources: Sticky Digital homepage, Sticky Digital services page and Sticky Digital’s Klaviyo directory entry, checked November 2026.
Pros
- States its client fit in revenue terms
- Subscription retention work on Recharge, Stay.ai and Ordergroove
- Loyalty, reviews, push and wallet passes alongside email and SMS
Cons
- Takes “a small number of clients at a time,” so ask about availability
- States its fit as DTC brands on Shopify
- The “Voted #1” claim names no awarding body
- Skip it if:
- your Shopify store is under $5M a year, where Retention Commerce (Shopify setup work) fits better, or your store is not on Shopify, where InboxArmy (any ESP, printed minimum) is the call to make.
2. InboxArmy: Best for Email and SMS Run on Any ESP

- Starting price: $1,500 per month minimum for managed services
- Platforms: 40+ ESPs, including Klaviyo, Omnisend, Braze, Listrak and Iterable
- Free first step: a free consultation
- Not sold: SEO, social media and PPC
- Team per client: an Account Manager, a Campaign Manager, a Designer, a Developer, a Strategist, an ESP expert and a Copywriter
InboxArmy is the first call to make when your ESP is not Klaviyo, or when you want a number before the discovery call, because it supports more than 40 email platforms and prints its minimum for managed services. It sells only email and SMS (“No SEO. No social media. No PPC.”). The trade-off: ecommerce is one of 25+ industries it serves, so ask for case studies from stores like yours.
The engagement ladder is the practical difference. InboxArmy sells template production, where its team designs templates your staff fills and sends, and part-time work it calls a Dedicated Resource contract, where a team creates, sends and reports on the campaigns you pick, in your time zone. A brand with one in-house marketer can start with templates and buy more only when results justify it.
The timeline is written down too. ESP access is requested on day 1, the kickoff call falls in weeks 1-2, the first campaign goes live in weeks 5-6, and automation builds typically go out in week 6.
InboxArmy’s FAQ sets the minimum for monthly managed services at $1,500 per month, or $18,000 over a year ($1,500 x 12 months) before your ESP’s own bill. Template and part-time work are priced on your needs, with no figure printed.
- Managed services: from $1,500 per month
- Template and part-time (Dedicated Resource) work: quoted per need
Sources: InboxArmy homepage and FAQ, checked November 2026.
Pros
- Prints a monthly minimum, so you can budget before a call
- Sells template-only and part-time work below a full retainer
- Supports 40+ ESPs, from Omnisend to Braze and Listrak
Cons
- Case studies span 25+ industries, not ecommerce alone
- Loyalty, reviews and subscription apps are not among its listed services
- First automations typically go out in week 6
- Skip it if:
- you want one agency to run paid social and email together; Lilo Social and Darkroom put both under one roof.
3. Flowium: Best for Klaviyo Brands That Want No Long-Term Contract

- Starting price: no price on site
- Contract terms: no long-term contracts and a 2-year price lock guarantee
- Channels: email, SMS, push, WhatsApp, RCS, Instagram DM, direct mail
- Free first step: a free lifecycle diagnosis and a 30-minute call
Flowium is the agency to call when the contract matters as much as the creative. It promises no long-term contracts and a 2-year price lock, and its services page lists what every plan includes. Flowium also maintains and manages the Klaviyo account itself, which suits a brand with no in-house Klaviyo admin; settle account ownership in writing.
Every Flowium plan carries the same Premium Service: 6 email marketing experts per project, Klaviyo account setup and management, custom copy and templates, flow strategy and build, a monthly campaign calendar, segmentation, A/B testing, monthly reports and weekly calls. Hold any other agency’s retainer proposal against that list.
Flowium also says it carries insurance across 8 risk categories, including privacy breach and errors and omissions; ask every finalist the same question. Against Chronos, it wins on written terms and loses on platform range: its plan names only Klaviyo. Klaviyo’s partner directory lists Flowium with the Elite Master label.
Each Flowium plan comes with a written scope but no amount, even though its homepage chart claims “Transparent Pricing”; read that as a clear scope, not a public rate. The Klaviyo subscription is a separate bill from Klaviyo.

- Price: no price on site
- Included in every plan: the Premium Service list above
Sources: Flowium homepage, Flowium services and pricing page and Flowium’s Klaviyo directory entry, checked November 2026.
Pros
- Publishes the full contents of its plans, from weekly calls to A/B testing
- The freedom to leave and a fee fixed for two years
- Seven channels, including WhatsApp, RCS and Instagram DM
Cons
- No amount on its site despite a “Transparent Pricing” claim
- No ESP other than Klaviyo named in its plan
- Flowium runs the Klaviyo account, so ownership needs a contract clause
Before you compare quotes, my Klaviyo review is the next step.
- Skip it if:
- you run Omnisend, Braze or Salesforce and do not plan to move to Klaviyo; InboxArmy or CodeCrew work on those stacks.
4. Chronos: Best for a Full Retention Team With a Stated Client Load

- Starting price: no price on site
- Team load: about 80 people looking after around 60 brands, per its FAQ
- Platforms: 11, including Klaviyo, Attentive, Braze, Postscript, Omnisend and HubSpot
- Audits offered: brand, flow, campaign, traffic and Klaviyo data
Of the twelve agencies here, only Chronos states how many brands share its team. About 80 Chronos staff look after around 60 brands, and each client gets a strategist, a day-to-day lead, a copywriter, a designer and a team that checks every asset from day one. That makes it the pick for a DTC brand that wants to know its team before it signs.
The measure matters as much as the team. Chronos judges email, SMS and push against what a customer is worth in gross profit over the whole time they buy, not attributed revenue alone. It also works across Attentive, Postscript and Braze, so an existing SMS program does not have to move.
Chronos calls itself a Klaviyo Master Elite Partner, and Klaviyo’s directory lists it with the Elite Master label. The same listing puts its headquarters in Singapore with an office in Sydney, so ask how US business hours are covered.
No fee or minimum appears on the Chronos homepage; its audits, or a call booked with its founder, Josh Chin, are the way in. Request the Klaviyo data audit first: it pulls list-health data from your own account and shows how Chronos reads your numbers before you pay.

- Price: no price on site
Sources: Chronos homepage and FAQ, checked November 2026.
Pros
- States its team load: about 80 people for around 60 brands
- Every asset checked before it reaches you
- SMS on Attentive or Postscript without a migration
Cons
- No fee, minimum or contract terms on its site
- Its average client ROI headline comes without a method
- Headquartered in Singapore, so US-hours coverage is a question to ask
- Skip it if:
- you need a published price before you take a call; InboxArmy prints one.
5. BMO Media: Best for Loyalty and Reviews Run With Email and SMS

- Starting price: no price on site; a complimentary audit opens the engagement
- Platforms: Klaviyo, Attentive and the tools already in your stack
- Channels: email, SMS, loyalty, reviews, push, subscriptions
BMO Media’s case rests on scope. It runs email, SMS, loyalty, reviews, push and subscriptions as one coordinated program on Klaviyo or Attentive, so a brand whose repeat-purchase problem sits partly in reviews and loyalty briefs one team instead of three vendors.
Reviews are treated as a retention channel: BMO says it turns post-purchase moments into reviews and UGC, then uses them in flows, on product pages and in ads. On loyalty, it says it sizes a program’s economics before building it; ask to see that model in the audit. If the SMS tool itself is undecided, compare SMS marketing platforms first.
BMO Media’s published path runs from your goals to a complimentary audit to a lifecycle strategy, with no fee shown along the way.

- Price: no price on site
Sources: BMO Media homepage, checked November 2026.
Pros
- Six retention channels run as one program
- Reviews and UGC fed into flows, product pages and ads
- Loyalty economics sized before the build
Cons
- No stated client-size band
- Its ROI headline names no period or spend
- Subscription work names no apps, unlike Sticky Digital
- Skip it if:
- you only need flows built and templates designed; Retention Commerce sells that smaller job.
6. CodeCrew: Best for Salesforce, Sailthru and Braze Stacks

- Starting price: no price on site; its pricing page is a two-question needs form
- Email platforms: Salesforce, Sailthru, Omnisend, Klaviyo, Braze, GetResponse, Shopify, Mailchimp, HubSpot
- SMS platforms: Klaviyo, Attentive, Twilio
- Team: 40+ experts in email, SMS and loyalty marketing
CodeCrew earns its place at the technical end of email. It takes what it calls an “agnostic” approach and lists Salesforce, Sailthru and Braze beside Klaviyo and Omnisend, and Twilio for SMS. For a Salesforce or Sailthru stack where an ESP migration is off the table, that matters more than a Klaviyo badge. The catch is that pricing starts with a form, not a number.
Render testing, deliverability tracking and inbox performance tracking are listed services, so a brand with heavy custom templates in Salesforce or Sailthru gets coding and QA from the team that plans its campaigns. Next to InboxArmy, the other platform-agnostic pick, CodeCrew adds Twilio and loyalty work but publishes no minimum or onboarding timeline.
CodeCrew’s pricing page is a two-question form with no figure. A template-heavy brand should ask whether coding and render testing sit inside the retainer or are billed per template.

- Price: no price on site; needs form first
Sources: CodeCrew homepage and CodeCrew pricing page, checked November 2026.
Pros
- Names Salesforce, Sailthru and Braze
- Render testing and deliverability tracking listed as services
- SMS on Klaviyo, Attentive or Twilio
Cons
- Quotes start with a two-question form, not a number
- Case studies span CPG, wellness and retail as well as ecommerce
- Its average ROI headline has no stated method
- Skip it if:
- you are a small Shopify store that only needs Klaviyo flows set up; Retention Commerce sells that narrower job.
7. Fuel Made: Best for Shopify Storefront, CRO and Klaviyo Under One Team

- Starting price: no price on site
- Partner status: Shopify Plus Partner and Klaviyo Master Elite, according to Fuel Made
- Services: Shopify design and development, Klaviyo email and SMS, conversion rate optimization
- Stated client fit: established DTC brands doing ~$10M–$50M+ a year, per its Klaviyo directory listing
Fuel Made makes sense when the email program is not your only leak. It pairs Shopify design and development and continuous A/B testing with Klaviyo email and SMS, so a brand whose product pages and flows both underperform can brief one team instead of two. It is a Shopify-and-Klaviyo shop by its own description, so stores on other platforms should look elsewhere.
Its homepage case studies mix storefront results such as page speed with welcome-flow and abandoned-cart work. Its Klaviyo directory listing carries the Elite Master label and says it has been Shopify-exclusive since 2010. Against Barrel, Fuel Made is not tied to CPG or retail, the simpler fit for a pure DTC store.
Fuel Made prints no price, so ask for the email retainer priced apart from storefront work.

- Price: no price on site
Sources: Fuel Made homepage, checked November 2026.
Pros
- One team for Shopify builds, CRO testing and Klaviyo
- Elite Master label in Klaviyo’s directory
- Shopify-exclusive since 2010, per that listing
Cons
- Shopify only
- Email sits beside site builds and CRO in its service list
- No SMS platform other than Klaviyo named
- Skip it if:
- your store runs on another platform, sells under about $10M a year (the bottom of the band in its Klaviyo directory listing), or you only need email. CodeCrew works across stacks, Retention Commerce sells done-for-you ecommerce marketing automation for Shopify stores, and InboxArmy sticks to email and SMS.
8. Darkroom: Best for Multichannel Brands Doing $10M+

- Starting price: no price on site
- Lifecycle tools: Klaviyo and Attentive
- Retention services: email, SMS, lifecycle flows, loyalty programs, subscription
Darkroom tells you who it is not for, in its own FAQ. It targets consumer brands typically doing $10M–$500M across several channels and calls the fit poor for single-channel brands and companies under roughly $5M. Inside that band, retention sits next to Amazon, TikTok Shop, paid media and measurement in one program: Darkroom is the pick when email is one lever among many.
Measurement is the reason a large brand would put retention inside a growth agency. Darkroom says performance is measured in contribution profit and checked with media mix modeling and incrementality testing, rather than last-click attribution. Against Tinuiti, Darkroom states its revenue band and names its lifecycle tools; Tinuiti’s email page does neither.
Darkroom’s first call is a 30-minute working session with a senior strategist; with a fit, the engagement opens with an audit of every active channel and a baseline.

- Price: no price on site
Sources: Darkroom homepage and FAQ, checked November 2026.
Pros
- States its fit and its poor fit in revenue terms
- Results measured in contribution profit, with incrementality testing
- A 30-minute first call with a senior strategist
Cons
- Poor fit under roughly $5M, by its own words
- Measurement runs through media mix modeling and incrementality tests, so ask how email flows are counted
- Email is one module among paid media, Amazon and creative
- Skip it if:
- your store is under roughly $5M or sells in one channel; Darkroom itself says a channel specialist moves faster, and InboxArmy or Retention Commerce are that specialist here.
9. Lilo Social: Best for Pairing Paid Social and Search With Retention

- Starting price: no price on site
- Klaviyo status: Master Elite Agency, according to Lilo Social; Elite Master label in Klaviyo’s directory
- Reporting: a blended dashboard, P&L and breakeven analysis
Lilo Social is for the brand whose email problem and ad problem are the same problem. It runs full-funnel paid search and social alongside email and SMS retention, and reports both against P&L and breakeven numbers. The trade-off: retention is one of its two service lines.
With one team owning ad spend and the flows that bring those buyers back, you can ask it to defend contribution margin rather than ROAS and email revenue separately. Weigh its partner claim, though: Lilo Social says Elite is held by “only 0.2% of 6,500+ partners,” while Klaviyo’s partners page counts 6,000+ agency partners and prints no share for Elite.
Lilo Social quotes each brand separately. Ask for the retention retainer and the media fee as separate lines, so you know what email costs if ads later move elsewhere.

- Price: no price on site
Sources: Lilo Social homepage and Klaviyo partners page, checked November 2026.
Pros
- Paid search, paid social and retention under one team
- Blended reporting with P&L and breakeven analysis
- No stated revenue floor
Cons
- Email is one of two service lines
- Its Elite share claim does not match Klaviyo’s own partner count
- Its “billions” in attributed revenue has no method
- Skip it if:
- you want an email-only specialist that will not sell you ad management; InboxArmy and Sticky Digital both say they sell no paid media.
10. Barrel: Best for CPG Brands Selling DTC and in Retail

- Starting price: no price on site; its form’s annual budget bands start at “Under $100,000”
- Partners: Shopify, Recharge, Rebuy, Klaviyo
- Services: Shopify builds and migrations, lifecycle email and SMS, SEO, marketplace storefronts, CRO
Barrel fits a CPG brand whose email has to sell in stores as well as online. It works with DTC-led and retail-first CPG brands on Shopify builds, lifecycle marketing and marketplaces, and one of its email case studies sends cider buyers to the product at their local store. A non-CPG store, or one that only needs email, pays for range it will not use.
Its partners (Shopify, Recharge, Rebuy, Klaviyo) and a build-a-box subscription welcome flow among its case studies put site, subscription app and email in one plan. Against Fuel Made, Barrel adds the retail side; Fuel Made is the leaner pick for a DTC-only Shopify brand.

Barrel’s retention marketing contact form asks for an annual engagement budget rather than quoting a rate, with options from “Under $100,000” up to “$500,000+”. Barrel scopes work by the year, and every budget below $100,000 sits in one band, so ask early whether an email-only budget is a project Barrel takes.
- Budget field: annual bands from “Under $100,000” to “$500,000+”
Sources: Barrel email and retention marketing page, checked November 2026.
Pros
- CPG focus, with email built to support retail as well as DTC
- Recharge and Rebuy among its named partners
- Site builds and lifecycle email under one contract
Cons
- Built for CPG brands, not general ecommerce
- Email is one service among site, SEO and marketplace work
- The lowest budget band covers everything under $100,000
- Skip it if:
- you are not a CPG brand or want email run on its own; Flowium runs a Klaviyo program without the site work.
11. Tinuiti: Best for Adding Email to an Existing Media Agency Relationship

- Starting price: no price on site
- Email and SMS scope: performance email, ESP selection and migration, on-site marketing, creative
- Smaller-brand offer: Foundation, for startups and SMBs
- Klaviyo status: Elite Master label in Klaviyo’s directory
Tinuiti makes sense when your media agency is already Tinuiti, or about to be. Its Email & SMS service covers performance email, ESP selection and migration, and on-site marketing, beside search, social, Amazon, TV and affiliate. The gap is detail: its email page names no ESP, team or fee.
ESP migration is the part worth testing: ask who does the build and how long the cutover takes. Foundation, its offering for startups and SMBs, means no stated revenue floor, unlike Darkroom.
Tinuiti’s email intake form asks for your ESP, your active subscriber count (bands from under 10,000 to 500,000+) and a start date, so have those ready.

- Price: no price on site
Sources: Tinuiti homepage and Tinuiti Email & SMS page, checked November 2026.
Pros
- Email and SMS inside a full media agency
- ESP selection and migration listed as a service
- Foundation offer for startups and SMBs
Cons
- Email is one of many media services
- No email onboarding timeline on its site
- Its intake form asks for your ESP, subscriber count and start date
- Skip it if:
- you want an agency whose Klaviyo work you can judge from its own site; Chronos and Flowium publish team and plan detail.
12. Retention Commerce: Best for Small Shopify Stores Setting Up Klaviyo

Retention Commerce homepage, first screen, retentioncommerce.com, captured Nov 2026
- Starting price: no price on site
- Services: flow automations, template design, app integration, migration to Klaviyo, campaigns, retargeting ads
- Platforms: Shopify, Klaviyo, Facebook Dynamic Product Ads
Retention Commerce is the smallest-scope option here, and that is the reason to call it. It sells done-for-you marketing automation for Shopify stores: Klaviyo flows, reusable templates, app integrations, a move to Klaviyo from another ESP, campaign scheduling, and Facebook retargeting synced to Klaviyo segments. A store that needs the basics built should ask for a project quote; one that needs SMS, loyalty or strategy should not.
A migration with rebuilt flows and templates is a defined project with an end, easier to price and judge than an open retainer. Against Flowium, Retention Commerce sells setup and campaign management but lists no SMS, loyalty or strategy team.
Ask Retention Commerce for a fixed project price that lists each flow and template, then decide on campaign management separately.

- Price: no price on site; ask for a project price
Sources: Retention Commerce homepage, checked November 2026.
Pros
- Shopify-only scope that suits a first Klaviyo build
- Migration to Klaviyo listed as a service
- Retargeting ads synced to Klaviyo segments
Cons
- No SMS, loyalty or subscription services listed
- Built for Shopify stores, so another storefront needs a different agency
- A thin site gives little to judge before a call
- Skip it if:
- you need SMS, loyalty or a strategy team; Chronos or BMO Media run those programs.
How Ecommerce Email Agencies Charge
Of the agencies above, InboxArmy alone prints a fee: a $1,500 monthly minimum for managed services. Barrel’s form shows annual budget bands; the other ten print no price, so the table below sorts the engagement types their sites describe.
| Model | What you get | Example on this list | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly retainer | A standing team for flows, campaigns, testing and reports | InboxArmy minimum $1,500 per month; Flowium plan list | Scope not written down |
| Project fee | Templates, a flow build, a migration or an audit | InboxArmy templates; Retention Commerce setup | Who keeps templates and flows |
| Part-time or dedicated team | Named staff on your account | InboxArmy Dedicated Resource contract | Hours or deliverables per month |
| Annual engagement | A scoped year of site and lifecycle work | Barrel bands from “Under $100,000” | Email folded into a site budget |
| Performance or revenue share | A fee tied to attributed revenue | None of the agencies above offers one on its site | The attribution window |
Budget from InboxArmy’s managed-services minimum. If billing starts at kickoff, the two months up to its first campaign in weeks 5-6 cost $3,000 ($1,500 x 2). A three-month trial before you judge results costs $4,500 ($1,500 x 3).
If flows are new to your team, read how marketing automation works before the first call.
Timing matters this month. InboxArmy’s timeline puts a first campaign at weeks 5-6, so an agency hired in early November mostly shapes your program after Black Friday; Sticky Digital’s complimentary BFCM audit is a review of your program, not a send.
Agency, In-House or Freelancer?
An agency fits when you need several skills at once, and a hire fits when one channel drives your growth and you can find senior talent for it. InboxArmy argues that a freelancer gives you one person’s bandwidth while an agency gives you strategists, designers, coders and copywriters, typically for less than one full-time hire. Both are sellers’ arguments.
To test it, set InboxArmy’s $18,000 yearly managed-services minimum ($1,500 x 12) beside the seven roles it staffs, from Account Manager to Copywriter, and against your own cost for one hire.
How to Choose and Vet an Ecommerce Email Agency
Start from stated fit (your revenue and your ESP), then check the agency’s Klaviyo status in Klaviyo’s own directory, keep the ESP account in your company’s name, and treat every revenue or ROI number as unaudited until the agency shows its method.
| Your priority | Agency to call | Reason | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| An ESP other than Klaviyo | InboxArmy or CodeCrew | 40+ ESPs; Salesforce, Sailthru, Braze named | CodeCrew prints no fee |
| Klaviyo with no lock-in | Flowium | No long-term contracts | Flowium runs the account |
| Knowing who works your account | Chronos | About 80 people for around 60 brands | No fee on its site |
| Shopify subscription brand | Sticky Digital | Recharge, Stay.ai and Ordergroove work | Stated fit: Shopify DTC |
| Loyalty and reviews | BMO Media | Six channels in one program | No size band |
| Storefront and email | Fuel Made | Shopify builds, CRO and Klaviyo | Shopify only |
| Over $10M across channels | Darkroom | Stated multichannel fit | Poor fit for small stores |
| Ads and email | Lilo Social | Paid media and retention in one team | Email is one of two lines |
| CPG brand in retail | Barrel | DTC and retail CPG focus | Scoped by annual budget |
| One media agency for everything | Tinuiti | Email inside a media agency | No ESP named |
| A first Klaviyo build | Retention Commerce | Setup and migration | No SMS or loyalty |
Use an audit as a work sample. Chronos offers brand, flow, campaign, traffic and Klaviyo data audits, and Flowium’s free audit reviews flows, campaigns, opt-ins, template design and KPIs; ask every finalist for the written output and compare what each found.
An agency cannot fix a platform that does not fit your list; the wider email marketing platform ranking covers lists beyond ecommerce.
CPG and wholesale brands whose customer data lives outside the ESP may need ecommerce CRM options before an agency.
Who Owns the Klaviyo Account?
Create the Klaviyo account under a login your company controls, then add the agency as a user. Klaviyo allows one Owner per account, makes the first person to create it the Owner by default, and lets only the current Owner transfer ownership; its help center says Klaviyo cannot start a transfer without the current Owner’s approval.
An Admin has full account access and can add or delete users but cannot fully close the account, so the agency as Admin and you as Owner lets it work while you keep the flows, lists and history. Klaviyo’s Manager role limits flows, lists, segments and analytics, which suits an agency that only runs campaigns.
Agencies take two models here: InboxArmy’s onboarding requests access to your ESP on day 1, while Flowium says it maintains and manages your Klaviyo account. Ask which model you are buying, and write into the contract that templates, flows and segments stay in your account when you leave.

Red Flags
Walk away from an agency that shows any of these:
- A revenue promise before the audit. InboxArmy’s own FAQ says an agency quoting a number before it knows your program is “either guessing or selling you something.”
- A long lock-in with no exit clause. Flowium shows the terms can be written plainly.
- A tier you cannot find. Klaviyo’s directory shows labels such as Elite Master, Platinum Master, Silver Master and Platinum Advisor; a claimed tier should match the listing.
- Nobody owns SMS consent. Ask who keeps opt-in records for texts; take legal questions to your own counsel.
Questions to Ask on the First Call
Use the answers the agencies above publish as the benchmark:
- How many people work across how many brands, and who leads my account? (Chronos, agency-wide: about 80 people for around 60 brands.)
- Who works on the account, by role? (InboxArmy names seven roles, from Account Manager to Copywriter.)
- When does the first campaign send, and when do flows go live? (InboxArmy: weeks 5-6.)
- Whose login is the ESP Owner, and which role does the agency need?
- What does the monthly fee include, line by line?
- What is the notice period, and what stays with the brand at exit?
- Is the price fixed, and for how long? (Flowium: a 2-year price lock.)
- Which attribution window sits behind the agency’s revenue numbers?
How to Read Agency Revenue and ROI Claims
You cannot compare these numbers.
| Agency | Headline claim | What it measures, as worded | What the page leaves out |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sticky Digital | 4200% | “Average return on investment with email marketing” | Whose clients, which period |
| Chronos | 3500% | “Average client ROI” | Cost basis, attribution window |
| CodeCrew | Over 1,300% ROI | ROI averaged for its clients | Cost basis, attribution window |
| BMO Media | 15X | “Return on investment” | Period and spend |
| InboxArmy | $1B+ | “Email Revenue Generated” | Attribution window |
| Flowium | $1B+ | “Revenue driven” | Attribution window |

Also Considered
Four more agencies came up in the top results and stayed off the list:
- Hawke Media: an outsourced-CMO, full-service agency whose homepage names no email service.
- Alchemy Worx: an email and SMS agency whose homepage names no service list, platforms or price beyond one case study.
- Coalition Technologies: a general agency selling email beside SEO, PPC and social, with law firms, dental and real estate among the industries on its email page.
- Andzen: andzen.com now opens Cendix, a web-to-print company, so there was no Andzen page to judge.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is an email marketing agency?
An email marketing agency is an outside team that plans, designs, codes, sends and reports on your email, and often SMS, inside your own ESP. For ecommerce that usually means flows such as welcome and abandoned cart, a campaign calendar, segmentation and testing, run on a monthly retainer or a scoped project.
Do these agencies work with Omnisend, not just Klaviyo?
Yes, several do. InboxArmy, CodeCrew and Chronos all list Omnisend among the platforms they work with. Flowium, Fuel Made and Retention Commerce center their work on Klaviyo, and Retention Commerce lists migration to Klaviyo as a service, so an Omnisend store should start with the first three.
Is an agency worth it for a store under $1M?
Usually only for a scoped project. Darkroom calls its fit poor under roughly $5M and Sticky Digital states a $5M floor, while InboxArmy’s managed services start at its monthly minimum. A smaller store gets more from template work or a fixed setup project than from a full retainer.
Final Verdict
Call two or three agencies that match your job; no agency here proves results you can compare, so pick by job. For any ESP and a printed price floor, call InboxArmy. On Klaviyo with no lock-in, Flowium; for a full team with a stated client load, Chronos; for multichannel brands over $10M, Darkroom.
The rest fit narrower jobs. CodeCrew suits Salesforce, Sailthru or Braze stacks, and Sticky Digital suits Shopify subscription brands. BMO Media fits loyalty and reviews, Fuel Made storefront and email, Lilo Social ads and email, and Barrel CPG brands in retail. Tinuiti works inside a media relationship, and Retention Commerce handles a first Klaviyo build.
Whichever you pick, keep the ESP Owner login in your company’s name and buy an audit or project before the retainer; that protects you more than any badge or ROI figure.
