Pick SugarCRM if your sellers work existing accounts tied to an ERP, or if you need on-premises or single-region hosting. Its Advanced+ package puts forecasting and AI features in one price: $98 per user per month, billed annually.

Pick Salesforce Sales Cloud for one platform across sales, service and marketing, monthly entry billing or Agentforce. On cost, the forecasting tiers barely differ: 25 users pay $100 x 25 x 12 = $30,000 a year on Pro Suite and $98 x 25 x 12 = $29,400 on Advanced+.

Quick verdict

At the forecasting tier the seat prices nearly match ($100 vs $98), so the decision rests on what each price holds.

SugarCRM fits ERP-led account selling, AI on a fixed budget, and on-premises or single-country hosting. Salesforce Sales Cloud fits a team that wants sales, service and marketing from one vendor, Slack and Tableau Next inside Core, or Agentforce later.

The trade-off: every priced Sugar Sell package (Standard+, Advanced+, Premier+) is billed annually and sold through a demo or quote. On Salesforce, the Agentforce for Sales add-on and premium support on Pro Suite raise the bill well past the list price.

Key Differences Between Salesforce and SugarCRM

Four differences decide the choice; the seat price at the forecasting tier is not one of them.

  • AI placement: SugarCRM bundles its AI assistant and summaries into Advanced+. Salesforce sells Agentforce for Sales only for Core and above, so a Pro Suite team must move up a tier first.
  • Hosting: SugarCRM sells Sugar Enterprise for on-premises deployment, and SugarCloud keeps data in one chosen region. No on-premises edition appears among the Sales Cloud editions.
  • Platform breadth: Salesforce’s Starter and Pro Suites span sales, service, marketing and commerce. SugarCRM sells Sugar Sell for sales, with Sugar Market and Sugar Serve as separate products.
  • Billing and trial: Salesforce bills Starter Suite monthly or annually and offers a 30-day trial. Every priced Sugar Sell package is billed annually, and buyers start with a demo or a quote request.

The platform point outweighs the rest when Salesforce will also run your service desk or marketing; my Salesforce CRM review judges that platform on its own.

The AI and hosting points weigh more when reps sell repeat orders into accounts whose purchase history lives in an ERP. The SugarAI (SugarCRM) review covers Sugar on those terms.

The names changed too: SugarCRM now sells as SugarAI, and sugarcrm.com/pricing opens sugarai.com/pricing. I checked both price lists on October 21, 2026.

Salesforce vs SugarCRM: Features Compared

Both CRMs gate forecasting to their second paid tier, but they split AI, email sync, mapping and hosting differently.

The pattern: Salesforce puts more into its entry plan, while SugarCRM puts more into its forecasting tier.

Forecasting, reporting and analytics

Both put forecasting on the second paid tier: Salesforce Sales Cloud in Pro Suite (“Sales Quoting and Forecasting”), SugarCRM in Advanced+. Starter Suite and Standard+ both include analytics, but neither entry plan includes forecasting.

That makes forecasting the upgrade trigger on both sides. On Salesforce it quadruples the seat price, from $25 to $100; on SugarCRM it adds $98 – $68 = $30 per user per month.

Reporting extras split above that tier. Salesforce Core adds Tableau Next, and Revenue Intelligence is a separate add-on from $220 per user per month. SugarCRM puts AI Analytics inside Advanced+.

Verdict: Forecasting

Comparable at the forecasting tier: both list forecasting at almost the same seat price. Neither pricing page describes how its forecasts are built, so run last quarter’s pipeline through the Salesforce trial and a Sugar demo before you choose on this point.

AI: bundled in SugarCRM, an add-on in Salesforce

SugarCRM includes AI Summaries, Sugar Cube AI Assistant, AI Analytics and Smart Prompts in Advanced+. Premier+ at $155 adds Smart Guides, Discover, meeting preparation, and data enrichment with a news feed.

Salesforce Sales Cloud’s Agentforce for Sales add-on can be added to Core and above. The cheapest seat with it is therefore Core plus the add-on: $195 + $125 = $320 per user per month. Max at $550 includes Agentforce for Sales and Agentforce Coworker, with 2.75M Flex Credits per org per year.

Verdict: AI

SugarCRM fits better for a team that wants an AI assistant inside a forecasting-tier budget, because Advanced+ includes it. Salesforce fits a team that wants agentic AI across a wider platform and can fund Core plus the add-on. Output quality depends on your own account data, so try both on a sample of it before you pay.

Deployment, customization and data residency

SugarCRM sells Sugar Enterprise, its sales force automation product for on-premises deployment; Salesforce Sales Cloud has no on-premises edition among its five paid editions. SugarCloud, Sugar’s hosted option, runs on Amazon Web Services.

SugarCloud customers choose one region (Australia, Germany, the United Kingdom or the United States), and the data stays within that region.

The Sales Cloud pricing page lists no residency options, though Salesforce’s compliance site lists Hyperforce documents by region, such as EU Central 2 in Zurich. A team with data-location rules should get Salesforce’s options in writing.

Customization is a vendor claim on both sides. Pro Suite adds “Greater Customization and Automation” over Starter, and SugarAI promises “extensive no-code configuration”.

Verdict: Deployment

SugarCRM fits better for IT teams that must run the CRM on their own servers or keep data in one country. The caveat: Sugar Enterprise costs $85 per user per month, billed annually, and its card lists none of the AI features Advanced+ lists. Ask Sugar sales which AI tools run on your own servers.

Integrations and ERP data

SugarCRM lists 180+ ERP integrations and supports REST and SOAP APIs, with connectors for ERPs such as Epicor, NetSuite, Sage and SYSPRO. Salesforce Sales Cloud’s Pro Suite adds access to AgentExchange, and Core bundles Slack Business+ and Tableau Next inside its $195 price.

Sugar Predict turns the ERP link into selling signals: cross-sell recommendations, optimal reorder windows and early churn signals. It comes in the Advanced Precision+ and Premier Precision+ packages, both “Contact sales for pricing”.

Verdict: Integrations

SugarCRM fits better for manufacturers and distributors whose sellers work from ERP order history, the industries Sugar names for Sugar Sell. For other stacks, list the five apps your team must connect and check each vendor’s marketplace before you sign.

Salesforce vs SugarCRM Pricing

Both vendors price per user per month in USD; Salesforce bills Pro Suite and every tier above it annually, and SugarCRM bills every priced package annually, Sugar Enterprise included.

The entry pair has the widest gap, and it is not like for like. Starter Suite costs $68 – $25 = $43 less per user per month than Standard+, but neither includes forecasting. Starter Suite is the only Sales Cloud plan listed as billed monthly, and the priced Sugar packages are all billed annually.

Both vendors point buyers to sales for a final price: Salesforce to a sales representative for detailed pricing, SugarAI to an offer built from your license count and contract length.

What 25 and 50 sellers pay per year

At the forecasting tier the two bills nearly match at both team sizes; the full-sales tier is where the gap grows.

Assumptions: US list prices, annual billing, 12 months, every seat on the same edition; no tax, implementation, partner fees, add-ons or negotiated discount.

The full-sales gap buys different things. Core includes Premier Success, Slack Business+ and Tableau Next; Premier+ adds Smart Guides and meeting preparation instead. A team that would buy premium support anyway should compare Core with Premier+ plus the support package Sugar proposes.

If neither bill fits the budget, Zoho CRM against Salesforce is the next pairing I would price.

Costs outside the license

Three extras change the gap. The Premier Success Plan costs 30% of net license fees, and Pro Suite lists Premier Support as an add-on. Pro Suite with Premier then costs $100 x 1.30 x 25 x 12 = $39,000 a year for 25 users, against $29,400 on Advanced+.

Agentforce for Sales adds $125 x 25 x 12 = $37,500 a year for 25 users, so Core with it costs $58,500 + $37,500 = $96,000. On SugarCRM, Sugar Connect+ adds Zoom and Teams meeting transcripts for $20 x 25 x 12 = $6,000 a year.

Neither vendor publishes implementation cost, and Salesforce’s Signature Success Plan is priced through your account executive. My Salesforce pricing guide covers the other add-ons.

SugarAI cites Nucleus Research for up to 32% lower total cost of ownership than Salesforce; that is SugarAI’s own claim. To model three years with your own numbers, use the CRM cost calculator.

Ease of Setup, Support and Security

Support is a priced line on Salesforce, and Sugar publishes no support prices. Salesforce’s Standard Success Plan, included in all licenses, covers knowledge articles, documentation, Trailhead and the Global Trailblazer Community.

That last channel is changing: the online Trailblazer Community becomes read-only Oct 30, 2026. Premier Success adds health checks and 24/7 support for business-stopping issues.

SugarAI’s support runs “from online-only to full 24/7 global response, depending on the Sugar solution you choose”, with no published tier prices. Get the tier and its response times written into the quote.

SugarAI puts implementation at a couple of weeks to a few months, with the Sugar team or a partner; Salesforce offers Professional Services and Certified Partners. Judge ease of use on your own data in Salesforce’s trial or a Sugar demo.

SugarAI names ISO/IEC 27001:2022, SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, CCPA and HIPAA in its compliance list.

Salesforce’s compliance site files Sales Cloud under Salesforce Services (Hyperforce), with 179 documents including a PCI Attestation of Compliance.

Verdict: Security certifications

Not enough evidence to rank either vendor: SugarAI shows its certifications on one page, while Salesforce keeps the Sales Cloud list in service documentation. Ask both sales teams for a current SOC 2 Type II report before you sign.

Salesforce vs SugarCRM: Pros and Cons

Each strength holds for a specific buyer, and each limit hurts a specific one.

Salesforce Sales Cloud

Pros

  • Starter Suite can be billed monthly, so a pilot team avoids an annual commitment
  • A 30-day trial with no credit card lets reps test it on real deals
  • One vendor for sales, service and marketing data
  • Core bundles Premier Success, Slack Business+ and Tableau Next

Cons

  • Agentforce for Sales is an add-on that needs Core or above
  • Premier support costs extra for a Pro Suite team that wants 24/7 help
  • Pro Suite and every tier above it are billed annually
  • No on-premises edition, which rules it out for self-hosting mandates

SugarCRM

Pros

  • AI Summaries and Sugar Cube AI Assistant come inside Advanced+
  • Sugar Enterprise covers teams that must deploy on-premises, at $85 per user per month, billed annually
  • SugarCloud keeps data in one region: the US, UK, Germany or Australia
  • 180+ ERP integrations and Sugar Predict suit sellers who work from purchase history

Cons

  • Every priced Sugar Sell package is billed annually, starting with Standard+
  • No free plan or trial on the pricing page, so evaluation runs through a demo
  • Precision+ (Sugar Predict) prices come only from sales
  • Unpublished support tiers make the support bill hard to forecast

A distributor with 40 reps, an ERP and an IT team that wants US-only hosting should pick SugarCRM. A company that already runs Salesforce for service or marketing should stay on Sales Cloud, because a second CRM vendor splits the customer record.

Skip SugarCRM if: you want to pay month to month or try the product before a sales call; the pricing page lists annual billing for the priced packages and no trial.

Skip Salesforce Sales Cloud if: you must host the CRM yourself, or you want AI inside a $98 seat, since Agentforce starts on Core.

Switching Between Salesforce and SugarCRM

A move works in both directions, but the effort sits on different sides.

From Salesforce to SugarCRM, SugarAI’s Jump Start program extracts Salesforce data, maps fields and imports records and custom fields. SugarAI puts it at two to three months, as little as four weeks for smaller projects.

Take your own backup first. Salesforce’s weekly export is available in Enterprise, Performance and Unlimited Editions, and Professional Edition can generate backup files only every 29 days. Those are the help page’s edition names; the price list sells Starter Suite, Pro Suite, Core, Advanced and Max, so ask Salesforce which export schedule your edition gets before you rely on it.

From SugarCRM to Salesforce, Sugar exports CSV files from a module’s list view or a rows-and-columns report; emails need a SQL query against the database. Salesforce’s Data Import Wizard then takes CSV files of up to 50,000 records at a time.

Mind the clock when leaving Sugar: SugarCloud customers keep access to their data for up to 120 days, after which it is permanently deleted. Both routes move records, so I would budget to rebuild workflows, reports and integrations on the new side.

If Salesforce is the platform you are leaving, compare Salesforce vs Close before you commit.

How I Compared Salesforce and SugarCRM

I checked both US pricing pages on October 21, 2026, and matched editions at the same unit (per user per month) and billing (annual). The main pair is Pro Suite against Advanced+, the first tier on each side with forecasting.

I added both vendors’ import, export, security and deployment pages. The annual costs are my arithmetic on list prices for 25 and 50 users.

The vendors do not publish implementation cost, Sugar’s support tier prices, Precision+ prices or Salesforce’s Signature Success price.

FAQ

Is SugarCRM still around?

Yes. SugarCRM now sells as SugarAI, and Sugar Sell is still its sales CRM, sold as Standard+, Advanced+ and Premier+. SugarAI reports 4000+ customers and 1M+ users in 120+ countries.

Can I try Salesforce or SugarCRM before buying?

Salesforce offers a 30-day Sales Cloud trial with no credit card and no installation. SugarAI’s pricing page lists a demo, an expert call and a quote request, and no trial, so ask for the demo on your own account data.

Why are people leaving Salesforce?

The price list shows two cost triggers a growing team meets: Agentforce for Sales is an add-on from $125 per user per month on Core or above, and Premier Success costs extra on Pro Suite. Teams weighing a move can compare Salesforce alternatives beyond SugarCRM.

Final Verdict: Salesforce or SugarCRM?

For a 25-50 seller B2B team, SugarCRM is my pick when sellers work existing accounts out of an ERP, want AI in the forecasting-tier price or need self-hosting. Salesforce Sales Cloud is my pick when the CRM must share one platform with service and marketing, or when you want a monthly start and a trial.

Choose Salesforce Sales Cloud if

  • Sales, service and marketing should run on one vendor’s suite
  • You want to start on Starter Suite at $25 per user per month, billed monthly, and can do without forecasting until Pro Suite
  • You plan to buy Agentforce for Sales and can fund Core plus the add-on
  • You want a 30-day trial before any sales call

Choose SugarCRM if

  • Your reps sell repeat business into accounts tied to an ERP
  • You want AI Summaries and an AI assistant without an add-on, in Advanced+ at $98
  • You need on-premises deployment or US, UK, German or Australian hosting
  • You can commit to annual billing from the first seat

If neither fits, my best CRM software picks widen the shortlist.

If Salesforce stays on your shortlist, read Salesforce vs Copper next.
