Perplexity sells six subscription tiers, and the sticker price on each one is only part of what a finance team ends up approving.
The ladder starts at Free, which costs $0.
It ends at Enterprise Max, at $3,250 per seat per year.
Pro, the plan that looks obvious at $20 per month, has no recurring agent credits attached to it. Max, the plan that looks extravagant at $200 per month, carries 10,000 of them.
And the single Enterprise Max seat that looks like an indulgence is, for a 25-person team, the cheapest documented route to organisation-wide audit logs. This guide prices the whole ladder from official sources, then shows where the real money goes.

Perplexity Enterprise TCO at 5–50 Seats
A per-seat price is not a budget line until it is multiplied by headcount and by twelve months.
The table below does that arithmetic at list price for the two Enterprise tiers, using annual billing, which is the cheaper cadence on every Perplexity plan offering a choice.
| Team size | Enterprise Pro, annual | Enterprise Max, annual | Mixed: all Pro plus one Max seat |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 seats | 2,000 dollars per year | 16,250 dollars per year | 4,850 dollars per year |
| 10 seats | 4,000 dollars per year | 32,500 dollars per year | 6,850 dollars per year |
| 20 seats | 8,000 dollars per year | 65,000 dollars per year | 10,850 dollars per year |
| 25 seats | 10,000 dollars per year | 81,250 dollars per year | 12,850 dollars per year |
| 50 seats | 20,000 dollars per year | 162,500 dollars per year | 22,850 dollars per year |
Source: seat prices come from the Perplexity Enterprise onboarding guide. Totals are list-price arithmetic by SaaS CRM Review and exclude tax, negotiated terms, credit purchases and API usage.
Three numbers in that table decide most Perplexity procurement conversations.
The gap between an all-Pro deployment and an all-Max deployment is roughly eight times, at every headcount. No organisation reaches for a full Enterprise Max rollout without naming the specific people who need it, because Perplexity documents that admins can mix both Pro and Max seats and change the tier and seat count later.
The mixed column costs a flat 2,850 dollars more per year than the all-Pro column at every team size. That is the price of one Enterprise Max seat replacing one Enterprise Pro seat, and it is the most consequential line in this guide for teams below 50 people.
The reason is governance, and it is covered in full under feature gates.
The 50-seat row is where the arithmetic stops mattering, because at that headcount Perplexity’s documented retention threshold is met by Enterprise Pro seats alone.

Read as a text alternative: Enterprise Pro annual runs 2,000, 4,000, 8,000, 10,000 and 20,000 dollars at 5, 10, 20, 25 and 50 seats.
The mixed configuration runs 4,850, 6,850, 10,850, 12,850 and 22,850 dollars at those same sizes.
Enterprise Max annual runs 16,250, 32,500, 65,000, 81,250 and 162,500 dollars, which is the range a buyer commits to by defaulting every seat to the top tier.
Perplexity Pricing Plans Compared
Six tiers, checked on 4 September 2026 against Perplexity’s own pricing, Help Center and developer pages.
| Plan | Monthly | Annual | Billing basis | Best for | Key documented limit |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 per month | Not applicable | Per account | Occasional cited search | 3 Pro Searches a day, 1 Research query a month |
| Pro | $20 per month | $200 per year | Per account | Solo analysts and consultants | Weekly and monthly limits sized for average use |
| Education Pro | $10 per month | Not published | Per verified user | Verified students and educators | Weekly and monthly limits sized for average use |
| Max | $200 per month | $2,000 per year | Per account | Power users needing Max-only models | Limits sized for advanced use, plus 10,000 Computer credits per month |
| Enterprise Pro | $40 per seat/month | $400 per seat/year | Per seat | Knowledge teams needing admin control | 400 Pro Searches a week, 50 Research queries a month |
| Enterprise Max | $325 per seat/month | $3,250 per seat/year | Per seat | Governance owners and heavy agent users | 4,000 Pro Searches a week, 500 Research queries a month |
Source: consumer list prices come from the Perplexity pricing page, and the Enterprise seat rates from the Enterprise pricing FAQ.
Source: Pro annual and Max annual are confirmed in the Slack connector article. Education Pro at $10 per month with SheerID verification, and every usage row, come from the Perplexity plan guide.
Two things about that table are worth pausing on before the plan-by-plan detail.
Perplexity publishes exact numbers for the Free tier and for both Enterprise tiers, and deliberately does not publish exact numbers for consumer Pro and Max. The plan guide describes those tiers as carrying weekly and monthly limits sized for average use and for advanced use.
Third-party pricing pages fill that gap with precise figures. Those figures are absent from Perplexity’s plan guide, so this article leaves them out and points a reader at the account usage screen instead.
Annual Max is also unavailable everywhere. Perplexity states that the annual billing option is only available for the web app version, and that Max annual billing is only available on perplexity.ai.
Buying Max inside a mobile app therefore removes the annual option, and with it the 400 dollars a year that option saves.
What Each Perplexity Plan Includes
Every search, research, agent and upload allowance below is taken from the Perplexity plan guide, with the monthly credit figures from the credits guide.
Perplexity Free
Includes cited web search, 3 Pro Searches per day and 1 Research query per month.
Missing: Browser Agent queries and File and App Creation, both marked unavailable on Free in the plan guide, along with any advanced model selection.
Avoid if research is a daily working activity rather than an occasional lookup, because a three-per-day ceiling is reached before lunch on a real research day.
Perplexity Pro
Perplexity Pro includes the advanced model selection, Google Drive and Dropbox file connectors, and allowances sized for average use, at $20 per month or $200 per year.
Missing: any recurring monthly Computer credit allowance, Model Council on web and iOS, and the two Max-only search models.
Avoid if the work depends on running agent tasks every week, because that turns a fixed subscription into a variable one.
Education Pro
Education Pro includes Pro-level capability at $10 per month for students and educators who verify through SheerID.
Missing: a published, durable usage ceiling. The plan guide describes Education Pro as offering unlimited Pro Searches in its narrative copy, while its own comparison table places Education Pro alongside Pro on weekly limits sized for average use.
Those two statements disagree, and Perplexity has not reconciled them on that page. Avoid treating the word unlimited as a contractual number.
Perplexity Max
Perplexity Max includes 10,000 Computer credits a month, Model Council on web and iOS, and search access to GPT-5.6 Sol and Claude Opus 5, at $200 per month or $2,000 per year.
Missing: enterprise admin controls, the no-training data policy, and any seat management.
Avoid buying Max through a mobile app while a web Pro subscription is live, for reasons covered under surprise costs.
Enterprise Pro
Enterprise Pro includes 400 Pro Searches a week, 50 Research queries a month, and 80 Browser Agent queries a month, at $40 per seat per month or $400 per seat per year.
It adds 50 File and App Creation queries a month, 100 session file uploads a week, and 500 Computer credits a seat each month.
Missing: the two Max-only search models and Model Council.
Avoid assuming it carries Max capability at a lower price, because it does not.
Enterprise Max
Enterprise Max costs $325 per seat per month or $3,250 per seat per year. Every documented allowance is roughly ten times its Enterprise Pro equivalent, at 4,000 Pro Searches a week, 500 Research queries a month and 800 Browser Agent queries a month.
On top of that sit 500 File and App Creation queries a month, 1,000 session file uploads a week, and a 15,000-credit Computer allowance for every seat.
It also carries 15 videos per month at 8 seconds each, with audio, in 16:9 widescreen.
Missing: nothing documented above it. Avoid rolling it out to an entire team when a subset needs it.
The video allowance above comes from What is Enterprise Max.
Line-Item Cost Breakdown: Every Billable Item
A Perplexity budget has more than one meter on it. This is every documented item appearing on a bill, and the plans each one applies to.
| Billable item | Rate | Applies to | Recurring or one-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Subscription seat, Enterprise Pro | $40 per seat/month or $400 per seat/year | Enterprise Pro | Recurring |
| Subscription seat, Enterprise Max | $325 per seat/month or $3,250 per seat/year | Enterprise Max | Recurring |
| Consumer subscription, Pro | $20 per month or $200 per year | Pro | Recurring |
| Consumer subscription, Max | $200 per month or $2,000 per year | Max | Recurring |
| Purchased Computer credits | 100 credits per $1 | Any paid plan | On demand |
| Prorated seat addition | Charged for time left until renewal | Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max | Event driven |
| API usage | Metered by token, request and search | API Platform | Recurring, separate bill |
| Paid Slack workspace plan | Set by Slack, not by Perplexity | Anyone using Perplexity inside Slack | Recurring, third-party |
Source: the credit rate comes from the Perplexity credits guide, and seat proration from enterprise billing.
Source: metered API rates come from the Perplexity API pricing docs, and the paid-Slack dependency from the Slack connector article cited above.
The last three rows catch out first-time buyers. Proration cuts both ways and is explained under annual billing, while API usage is a separate product carrying a separate bill.
The Slack line exists because Perplexity’s Connector for Slack works on a paid Perplexity plan, while using the Perplexity app inside Slack itself requires a paid Slack workspace plan. Perplexity does not sell that plan, so it lands on a different budget line entirely.
Feature Gates By Plan
Price differences between Perplexity tiers are mostly gates rather than volumes. This plan comparison covers the gates changing a buying decision, because a feature gate turns into a hidden cost when a team discovers it after signing.
A cost scenario built on the wrong tier fails at exactly one of these rows, so treat each one as an upgrade trigger.
| Capability | Free | Pro | Education Pro | Max | Enterprise Pro | Enterprise Max |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| File and App Creation | Not available | Monthly, average use | Monthly, average use | Monthly, advanced use | 50 per month | 500 per month |
| GPT-5.6 Sol and Claude Opus 5 in Search | No | No | No | Yes | No | Yes |
| Model Council on web and iOS | No | No | No | Yes | No | Yes |
| Recurring monthly Computer credits | None | None | None | 10,000 | 500 per seat | 15,000 per seat |
| Connected file behaviour | No connectors | Manual re-upload | Manual re-upload | Manual re-upload | Automatic sync, Projects included | Automatic sync, Projects included |

| Organisation-wide SCIM, audit logs, retention, Insights | Not applicable | Not applicable | Not applicable | Not applicable | From 50 seats | From one seat |
| Support tier | Basic | Priority | Priority | Dedicated | Dedicated | Dedicated |
Source: allowances and support tiers come from the Perplexity plan guide cited above, and the search-model split from advanced AI models.
Source: Model Council comes from What is Model Council, and connector behaviour from file app connectors for Pro subscribers.
Source: the training policy comes from data collection at Perplexity, and the governance threshold from data retention for Enterprise.
The Two Max-Only Models
Perplexity’s model documentation marks GPT-5.6 Sol and Claude Opus 5 as unavailable on Pro and available on Max, with the same split between Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max.
For a researcher who needs a specific frontier model inside a cited-search workflow, that single row is the entire argument for a tenfold price increase.
Model rosters change. Perplexity states plainly that the model selector in Perplexity is always the source of truth for an account, so a buyer paying for a named model checks the selector before paying.
Model Council Is Two Different Things
Model Council is included for subscribers on the Max and Enterprise Max plans.
Inside Computer it behaves differently: each model researches the question independently and at the same time, then Computer writes a single synthesis comparing what they found.
That run spends credits from the Computer allowance rather than from the Model Council query cap. A buyer comparing a yes and a no in a feature grid learns none of that, and the practical consequence is that Computer-based multi-model work is metered by usage instead of by subscription.
The Governance Row Is The Expensive One
Perplexity documents that advanced security features are exclusive to Enterprise organisations with 50 seats or more, or with at least one Enterprise Max user.
A single Enterprise Max user enables organisation-wide access to SCIM, audit logs, configurable data retention and the Insights dashboard, with no seat minimum.
For a 25-seat organisation that turns a compliance requirement into arithmetic. Twenty-five Enterprise Pro seats on annual billing cost 10,000 dollars per year, while swapping one of those seats for Enterprise Max costs 12,850 dollars.
The increase is 2,850 dollars and it satisfies the documented condition. Reaching the same controls by growing to 50 Enterprise Pro seats costs 20,000 dollars per year and requires hiring 25 people.
One caution belongs beside that. The documented organisation-wide effect covers those four controls, and nothing in Perplexity’s documentation transfers a Max seat’s own per-user limits or model access to Pro seats.

Connected Files Behave Differently On Pro
Pro subscribers get Google Drive and Dropbox connectors.
Perplexity states that file syncing is not supported on the Pro plan, so a change made in an original file does not transfer to the file attached to a session, and that file connectors for projects is an Enterprise feature.
For anyone whose source documents change weekly, that is a recurring manual re-upload task rather than a missing checkbox. The cost is labour, and it lands on the person who least wants it.
Annual vs Monthly: The Real Savings Math
Every Perplexity plan with a published annual rate is cheaper annually, and the saving grows in absolute terms further up the ladder.
| Plan | Twelve monthly payments | Annual price | Saving | Effective monthly rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pro | 240 dollars | $200 per year | 40 dollars | About 16.67 dollars |
| Max | 2,400 dollars | $2,000 per year | 400 dollars | About 166.67 dollars |
| Enterprise Pro, per seat | 480 dollars | $400 per seat/year | 80 dollars | About 33.33 dollars |
| Enterprise Max, per seat | 3,900 dollars | $3,250 per seat/year | 650 dollars | About 270.83 dollars |
Source: annual and monthly rates come from the Perplexity Max article and the Enterprise onboarding guide. The twelve-month totals, savings and effective rates are list-price arithmetic by SaaS CRM Review.
Three billing mechanics sit underneath that table, and none of them appears on a pricing card.
Annual Max is web-only, because Perplexity states the annual billing option is only available for the web app version. A buyer reaching for Max on a phone pays the monthly rate by default and gives up 400 dollars a year.
Enterprise invoicing is annual-only. Perplexity offers invoice billing with 7-day payment terms on annual subscriptions, alongside bank and wire transfer at checkout, and consolidates billing for all seats in one organisation into a single invoice.
A finance team needing an invoice rather than a card is therefore choosing annual by default, whatever the cadence discussion concluded.
Seat changes are prorated, but not in month one. Adding a user applies a prorated charge based on the time left until renewal, and removing a user creates a prorated credit applied against the next renewal.
That flexibility starts after a 30-day seat commitment period, so seats removed during the first month keep billing until the period ends. Start conservative and add seats, rather than buying for the org chart and trimming later.
Add-Ons, Overages, And Surprise Costs
Four cost mechanics sit outside the subscription line and none of them appears on a pricing card. Credits are the largest, and the other three are timing traps.
Computer Credits Are The Real Variable
Perplexity prices purchased credits at 100 credits for $1, and the recurring allowances differ sharply by plan.
Pro has no monthly allocation at all. Max includes 10,000 credits per month, Enterprise Pro includes 500 per seat per month, and Enterprise Max includes 15,000 per seat per month.
Every plan also grants a one-time bonus expiring in 30 days: 4,000 credits on Pro, 35,000 on Max, 8,000 on Enterprise Pro and 40,000 on Enterprise Max.
Those bonuses look like plan value in a comparison table and are not. A Pro subscriber planning a Computer workflow around 4,000 bonus credits has one month of runway and no recurring allowance behind it.
| Credit item | Pro | Max | Enterprise Pro | Enterprise Max |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Recurring monthly credits | None | 10,000 | 500 per seat | 15,000 per seat |
| One-time bonus, expires in 30 days | 4,000 | 35,000 | 8,000 | 40,000 |
| Auto-refill trigger balance | 500 credits | 2,500 credits | Not published | Not published |
| Max default monthly purchase cap | Not published | $200 | Not published | Not published |
| Max maximum configurable cap | Not published | $5,000 | Not published | Not published |
Source: every figure in this table comes from the Perplexity credits guide, which prices purchased credits at 100 credits for $1.
Perplexity publishes typical consumption bands for Computer work: 100 to 350 credits for a light task, 350 to 950 for a complex one, 875 to 2,275 for a heavy one, and 2,400 to 9,800 for a mega task.
Applied to the 10,000 credits included with Max, that is roughly 28 to 100 light tasks, 10 to 28 complex tasks, 4 to 11 heavy tasks, or 1 to 4 mega tasks in a month before any purchase.
Applied to the 500 credits an Enterprise Pro seat receives, it is one to five light tasks and nothing heavier, which is the number that decides whether a team needs Max seats at all.
Running out does not lose work. Perplexity states that active tasks pause, they do not cancel, work is saved, and tasks pick up where they stopped once credits are available again.
Auto-refill is opt-in, triggering at a 500-credit balance on Pro and 2,500 on Max, and Max carries a default monthly purchase cap of $200 that an account holder raises to $5,000 at most.
Leaving auto-refill off makes the ceiling a stop. Turning it on makes the ceiling a budget, and the cap is what keeps that budget honest.
The October Migration Nobody Prices In
Perplexity’s Enterprise file repository is being retired on 1 October 2026. It no longer accepts new uploads, and files not downloaded by that date will be deleted.
Moving them into Projects or a supported connector is manual work, and Perplexity’s file-limits documentation does not state that folder structure, permissions, metadata or duplicate handling survive the move.
Any organisation renewing an Enterprise contract this quarter treats that migration as a real line of effort rather than an automatic transfer.
Enterprise File Ceilings Are Four Separate Numbers
| File limit | Enterprise Pro | Enterprise Max |
|---|---|---|
| Files per upload | 30, up to 50MB each | 30, up to 50MB each |
| Session uploads per week | 100 | 1,000 |
| Files per Project | 500 | 5,000 |
| Personal repository files | 5,000 | 10,000 |
| Total persistent files per user | 15,000 | 50,000 |
Source: the Enterprise file limits article carries all five rows, and the 1 October 2026 retirement notice for the organisation file repository.
A workflow binds against one of those ceilings before it binds against the others, so the tier decision follows whichever number the team hits first.
Trials Auto-Renew At Full Price
A trial subscription requires a valid payment method, and so does any discounted introductory offer.
Perplexity states that unless the subscription is cancelled before the trial ends, it auto-renews at the standard rate for the plan selected, which on Max is $200 per month.
The Mobile Upgrade Trap
This one costs real money and takes two minutes to avoid.
Perplexity’s guidance is explicit: a subscriber who bought Pro through the web app must use the web app rather than the mobile apps to upgrade to Max, because a mobile upgrade creates a new separate Max subscription alongside the ongoing Pro subscription.
Two live subscriptions, one user, and no warning on the pricing card.
Perplexity API Pricing Is A Separate Bill
No Perplexity subscription includes API credits.
The plan guide states there are no complimentary API credits, and the Enterprise FAQ states that API usage is not included with Enterprise Pro or Enterprise Max and is billed separately. A team budgeting seats and a production integration is budgeting two products.
| Sonar model | Input per 1M tokens | Output per 1M tokens | Other meters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sonar | $1 | $1 | Request fees $5 to $12 per 1,000 requests by search context |
| Sonar Pro | $3 | $15 | Request fees $6 to $14 per 1,000 requests by search context |
| Sonar Reasoning Pro | $2 | $8 | Request fees $6 to $14 per 1,000 requests by search context |
| Sonar Deep Research | $2 | $8 | Citation tokens $2 per 1M, reasoning tokens $3 per 1M, search queries $5 per 1,000 |
Source: every rate comes from the Perplexity API pricing documentation. Throughput and rate-limit ceilings are documented separately and sit outside the scope of this pricing guide.
Sonar Deep Research is the meter surprising finance teams, because it bills on four axes at once.
A workload looking cheap on token rates alone becomes expensive once citation tokens, reasoning tokens and per-thousand search queries are added on top.
Which Perplexity Plan Should You Choose?
Occasional researcher. Stay on Free. Three Pro Searches per day and one Research query per month cover a lookup habit, and nothing in the paid tiers is worth 240 dollars a year to someone hitting that ceiling twice a month.
Solo analyst, consultant or journalist. Pro on annual billing, at $200 per year, carrying the advanced model selection and the cloud file connectors.
Budget separately for Computer credits, sold at 100 credits for $1, if agent work is part of the routine, because Pro grants no recurring allowance.
Verified student or educator. Education Pro at $10 per month, with SheerID verification. Treat the usage ceiling as an open question until the account usage screen shows a number, given the contradiction in Perplexity’s plan guide.
Power user who needs a named frontier model. Max, bought on the web for $2,000 per year rather than $200 per month.
The decision rests on three things: search access to GPT-5.6 Sol and Claude Opus 5, Model Council on web and iOS, and 10,000 monthly Computer credits. If none of those three changes the work, Pro does the same job for a tenth of the price.
Knowledge team of 5 to 24 people. Enterprise Pro seats at 400 dollars per seat per year, with Enterprise Max assigned only to people needing Max-level limits or models.
Perplexity allows admins to mix both Pro and Max seats and change the tier and seat count later, so the seat mix is reversible after the first month.
Organisation of 25 to 49 people with a compliance requirement. Enterprise Pro seats plus exactly one Enterprise Max seat, costing 2,850 dollars more per year than an all-Pro deployment.
That configuration meets Perplexity’s documented condition for organisation-wide SCIM, audit logs, configurable retention and Insights.
Organisation of 50 or more. Enterprise Pro seats alone already meet the documented 50-seat retention threshold, so buy Enterprise Max for the capability its users need rather than for the governance route.
Eligible school, nonprofit or government agency. Ask about the 25 percent reduction on Enterprise Pro seats documented for educational institutions, nonprofits and government agencies. At 250 or more seats, ask about custom terms and white-glove invoicing in the same conversation.
Developer building on Perplexity. Budget the API separately at Sonar rates, because no seat purchase reduces it.
Which Perplexity Plan Should You Avoid?
Enterprise Max for an entire team. At 20 seats, an all-Max deployment costs 65,000 dollars a year against 8,000 dollars for all-Pro.
The gate justifying Max is per-user model access, per-user limits, and one organisation-wide governance condition a single seat satisfies. Buying it for everyone pays 57,000 dollars a year for capability most seats will not touch.
The exception is a team where most people genuinely run heavy agent workloads, which the 500 credits on an Enterprise Pro seat cannot support.
Max on monthly billing through a mobile app. This fails twice, forfeiting the 400 dollars a year annual billing saves and risking a duplicate subscription alongside an existing web Pro plan.
The exception is a buyer with no web Pro subscription who genuinely wants a one-month trial of Max at $200 per month.
Pro for a team needing shared governance. Individual Pro subscriptions carry no admin controls, and consumer accounts have AI data retention enabled by default with an opt-out applying only to data collected after the opt-out date.
Perplexity states that previously collected training data cannot be deleted or removed. For regulated work that is the wrong starting point regardless of price.
Perplexity Pricing vs Competitors
| Product | Entry paid price | Practical individual tier | Team or business seat | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Perplexity | $20 per month for Pro | Pro at $200 per year | Enterprise Pro at $400 a seat each year | Cited web research with enterprise governance |
| ChatGPT | $20 per month for Plus | Plus at $20 per month | Business at $20 per user/month billed annually | General assistant work across a wide tool surface |
| Claude | $20 per month for Pro billed monthly | Pro at $200 billed up front per year | Team standard seat at $20 a seat each month billed annually | Long-form reasoning and document work |
| Microsoft 365 Copilot | $30 per user/month paid yearly | Not sold as a standalone consumer tier | $30 per user/month paid yearly | Teams already standardised on Microsoft 365 |
| You.com | Sold as metered API access | Not sold as a consumer subscription | Web Search API at $5.00 per 1,000 calls | Developers embedding search rather than using a chat product |
Source: ChatGPT Plus pricing and ChatGPT Business seat pricing carry the two ChatGPT rows.
Source: Claude pricing and Microsoft 365 Copilot enterprise pricing carry the next two rows.
Source: the You.com row comes from its published search API pricing, read on the research date shown in the plan comparison table.
At the individual entry point, Perplexity Pro, ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro all sit at $20 per month, so price decides nothing for a solo buyer.
What separates them is the shape of the product, and Perplexity is built around cited search, which matters when the output has to be traceable to a source.
Price alone will not settle that choice, so the capability judgement this guide deliberately leaves out sits in the Perplexity review.
The picture changes at the team level, and it changes in Perplexity’s favour. Enterprise Pro at $400 per seat per year sits at the same annual level as a ChatGPT Business standard seat.
A Claude Team standard seat lands in the same band, at $20 per seat per month billed annually.
It also sits below a Microsoft 365 Copilot seat at $30 per user per month, which on top of that requires a separate qualifying Microsoft 365 licence.
Perplexity’s outlier is the top of its own range. Enterprise Max at $3,250 per seat per year has no direct equivalent among these four.
The nearest comparison is a Claude Team premium seat at $100 per seat per month billed annually, roughly a third of Enterprise Max. That gap is the strongest argument for the mixed-seat approach.
Both rivals have their own tier ladders and their own hidden meters, which this table cannot hold at full depth. The ChatGPT pricing guide breaks down that lineup in the same format.
The Claude pricing guide does the same for Anthropic’s tiers, which is the comparison a buyer needs before committing a team to either.
Is Perplexity Worth The Price? The Verdict
Worth it if the work depends on cited answers rather than generated prose, and the buyer sits in one of three places.
Those places are a solo researcher taking Pro at $200 per year, or a team taking Enterprise Pro seats at $400 each for the no-training data policy and admin controls.
The third is a 25-to-49-seat organisation adding one Enterprise Max seat for 2,850 dollars a year to meet a governance requirement.
Not worth it if the workload fits inside three Pro Searches a day, or if the appeal of Max is general capability rather than the two Max-only models, Model Council and 10,000 monthly credits.
Max is a tenfold price increase over Pro, and it is defensible only when one of those four things is doing real work.
The alternative for a solo buyer priced out of Max is Claude Pro at $200 billed up front per year.
The other is ChatGPT Plus at $20 per month, and both sit at Perplexity Pro’s price point with a different product shape.
For a team already licensed across Microsoft 365, Copilot at $30 per user per month is the incumbent worth pricing against Enterprise Pro before a new vendor is added.
One boundary applies to all of this. Every figure here comes from Perplexity’s published pricing and Help Center pages rather than from a paid account, so it establishes what Perplexity charges and documents, not how a specific account’s undocumented consumer limits behave in practice.
How To Avoid Overpaying For Perplexity
- Buy annual, and buy Max on the web. Annual billing saves 40 dollars on Pro and 400 dollars on Max, and the Max annual option exists only in the web app.
- Check for an existing web subscription before upgrading on a phone. A mobile upgrade to Max alongside a live web Pro plan creates a second subscription rather than replacing the first.
- Do not budget Computer work on bonus credits. The 4,000, 35,000, 8,000 and 40,000 credit grants are one-time and expire in 30 days, so only the recurring allowance is a plan entitlement.
- Set the Max purchase cap deliberately. The default is $200 a month and it is adjustable to $5,000, while leaving auto-refill off caps spend at zero and pauses tasks instead.
- Mix Enterprise seats instead of levelling up. One Enterprise Max seat inside an Enterprise Pro organisation costs 2,850 dollars more per year, where twenty-five Enterprise Max seats cost 71,250 dollars more.
- Start the seat count low. The 30-day commitment means first-month removals do not reduce the bill, while additions after that are prorated.
- Ask for the sector reduction and the volume terms. Eligible educational institutions, nonprofits and government agencies are documented as paying 25 percent below the standard Enterprise Pro seat rate, and organisations at 250 or more seats request custom terms.
- Price the API separately from day one. No subscription tier includes API credits, and Sonar Deep Research bills on four meters at once.
FAQ
These are the questions the sections above leave open, answered in the order buyers tend to ask them.
How Much Does Perplexity AI Cost In 2026?
Free is $0 per month, Pro is $20 per month or $200 per year, and Education Pro is $10 per month for verified students and educators.
Max is $200 per month or $2,000 per year.
Enterprise Pro is $40 per seat per month or $400 per seat per year, and Enterprise Max is $325 per seat per month or $3,250 per seat per year.
What Is The Difference Between Perplexity Pro And Max?
Max adds search access to GPT-5.6 Sol and Claude Opus 5, Model Council on web and iOS, higher usage allowances and 10,000 recurring Computer credits per month.
Pro has none of those four, and no recurring credit allowance at all.
Does Perplexity Pro Include API Credits?
No. Perplexity states there are no complimentary API credits on any subscription, and the Enterprise FAQ confirms API usage is excluded from Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max.
What Happens When Perplexity Computer Credits Run Out?
Active tasks pause rather than cancel, and work is saved.
Tasks resume once credits are available again, either from a purchase or from the next monthly allocation.
Is Perplexity Free For Students?
Not free, but cheaper. Education Pro is $10 per month for students and educators who verify eligibility through SheerID.
Can One Enterprise Max Seat Cover A Whole Organisation’s Security Requirements?
For four specific controls, yes. Perplexity documents that at least one Enterprise Max user enables organisation-wide SCIM, audit logs, configurable data retention and the Insights dashboard with no seat minimum.
Per-user Max limits and model access stay with that seat and do not transfer to Pro seats.
Do Connected Google Drive Files Stay In Sync On Pro?
No. Perplexity states file syncing is not supported on the Pro plan, so an edited original does not update the attached file, and connector use inside Projects is an Enterprise feature.
What Are The Exact Weekly Limits On Pro And Max?
Perplexity’s plan guide describes them as weekly and monthly limits sized for average use on Pro and advanced use on Max, without publishing durable numbers.
The account usage screen is the reliable place to read them.
How This Pricing Guide Was Researched
Every price, allowance and gate here was read from Perplexity’s own pricing page, Help Center articles and developer documentation on the date shown in the plan comparison table above.
Competitor prices were read from each vendor’s own pricing or help pages on that same date, and official documentation outranked third-party pricing pages wherever the two disagreed.
Two such disagreements are recorded in the plan sections rather than resolved silently.
The selection criteria were narrow: a figure had to be published by the vendor, tied to a named plan, and current on the check date.
Figures Perplexity describes without publishing a durable number, such as consumer Pro and Max usage ceilings, are marked as unpublished instead of being filled in from secondary sources.
No authenticated Perplexity account was used, so this guide documents what Perplexity charges and states rather than measured in-product behaviour.
Your Next Step
Choose a plan against usage rather than against the price card, and stay on Free while three searches a day is enough.
Buy annual billing the moment Pro becomes a working tool, and buy Max on the web or not at all.
For a team, mix Enterprise seats rather than levelling everyone up, and add the one Enterprise Max seat only when governance needs it.
Budget the separately billed API as its own line, and set a credit cap before the first agent workflow runs.
If the shortlist is still open rather than down to Perplexity, the category comparison in best AI chatbots is the place to narrow it before pricing anything.
