The right BambooHR alternative depends on why you are leaving. Gusto fits when payroll should sit in one published price; Deel HR, TalentHR or Connecteam fit when BambooHR’s $250 monthly Core fee for 25 or fewer employees is the problem.
HiBob and Rippling suit mid-size companies that need pay planning or device management, and Justworks suits teams that want benefits through a PEO. I built the ranking from each vendor’s pricing, help and product pages, read on October 27 and 28, 2026.
Quick verdict
Gusto puts payroll on one published bill, Deel HR runs core HR from $5 per employee per month, and HiBob or Rippling cover pay planning or device access.
Stay with BambooHR if your stack depends on its 150+ integration partners, or if a 20- to 25-person team uses Pro’s reviews at a flat $425 a month.
The trade-off: Deel HR’s page prices only its Core plan, so its performance and compensation tiers have no figure to compare.

Best BambooHR Alternatives at a Glance
Four picks cover the most common reasons to leave: payroll, price, pay planning and IT.

Gusto
Best for: payroll and HR on one published price
Gusto prints every payroll plan on its pricing page, while BambooHR sells payroll as an add-on priced by quote.
Limit: no performance module on Gusto’s plan cards, unlike BambooHR Pro

Deel HR
Best for: low-cost core HR
Core starts at $5 per employee per month, with no flat fee like BambooHR’s for 25 or fewer employees.
Limit: Advanced and Elite are not priced on the Deel HR page, while BambooHR prints all three plans

HiBob
Best for: mid-size companies planning pay and headcount
Compensation cycles, workforce scenario planning and US payroll sit in one platform, a step past BambooHR Elite’s pay tools.
Limit: quote only, where BambooHR prints its per-employee prices

Rippling
Best for: HR, payroll and IT in one system
Identity, access and device management run beside HR and payroll, which BambooHR’s pricing page does not list.
Limit: the monthly base fee is not published, so there is no total to set against BambooHR
BambooHR vs Alternatives: Quick Comparison
BambooHR Core is the benchmark: a flat monthly fee for 25 or fewer employees, then $10.25 per employee per month.
| Software | Best for | Starting price | What you give up | Switching note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BambooHR | HR, hiring and reviews on one plan ladder | Core $250/mo flat up to 25 employees; $10.25 per employee/mo above 25 | Benchmark | Benchmark |
| Gusto | Payroll and HR on one bill | $49/mo + $6/mo per person, month-to-month | No performance module listed | Have EIN, salaries and tax filings ready |
| Deel HR | Low-cost core HR | From $5 per employee/mo | Upper tiers not priced on its HR page | Migration team and guides |
| HiBob | Mid-size pay planning | No price on its pricing page (demo form) | No price before a demo | Ask which BambooHR fields import |
| Rippling | HR, payroll and IT | From $8 per employee/mo + base fee | Base fee not published | Imports year-to-date payroll |
| Justworks | Benefits through a PEO | $50/mo + $8/mo per employee | No org chart on the Payroll plan | No implementation fee |
| Paycor | Payroll-led HR under 50 employees | Quote only | No published price | Ask which records import |
| Sage HR | Paying per module | $6.00 per employee/mo | Price labelled indicative | 30-day free trial |
| Factorial | HR with time, expenses and IT | From $8 per user/mo | Only a starting price | Ask which fields map |
| Connecteam | Hourly teams | Free up to 10 users; $29/mo for 30 users, billed yearly | No payroll | 14-day free trial |
| TalentHR | 10 employees or fewer | Free up to 10 users; $2 per user/mo | 15-user paid minimum | CSV import |
| Zoho People | Teams on Zoho apps | US$1.25 per user/ | Local taxes on top | 30-day trial |

Why Look for a BambooHR Alternative?
BambooHR Core costs a flat $250 a month at 25 or fewer employees, so a 10-person team pays $250 / 10 employees = $25 per employee per month. Above 25, 40 people on Core cost 40 x $10.25 = $410 a month before automatic volume discounts.
The flat fee is easy to miss: the plan cards print $10, $17 and $25 USD* per employee per month. The FAQ holds the minimum and the rate above 25 employees ($10.25, $17.50 and $25) that every sum here uses.

Five limits push teams to switch, each solved by a pick below:
- The flat fee at small headcounts. Deel HR Core costs 10 x $5 = $50 for the same 10 people, with recruiting as an add-on.
- Payroll priced by quote. BambooHR Payroll is an add-on for US-based employees behind a “Get a Free Price Quote” button; Gusto and Justworks print payroll prices.
- Benefits administration as an add-on, no PEO. Benefits Administration is another add-on, and no PEO plan is listed; Justworks PEO Plus administers medical, dental and vision.
- IT tied to onboarding. BambooHR’s plans list no device or app-access management; Rippling adds both.
- Hourly staff and hiring volume. Time & Attendance is an unpriced add-on, and Core caps hiring at 5 job openings; Connecteam covers shift staff, and Sage HR’s Recruitment module adds hiring for $200 a month.
Is BambooHR reputable? It is an established vendor that says 30,000+ companies use it, so these are reasons of fit and price, not trust. My BambooHR review weighs its strengths against them.
1. Gusto: Best BambooHR Alternative for Payroll and HR on One Published Price

- Best for: US teams that want payroll and HR on one bill
- Comparable plan: Plus, $80/mo + $12/mo per person
- Replaces: BambooHR Core plus Payroll; no performance module listed
Gusto is my pick when the real complaint is BambooHR’s payroll quote. It prints all three payroll plans, month-to-month, with free account setup. The trade-off is HR depth: Gusto’s plan cards list no performance reviews, which BambooHR Pro includes.
Plus is the plan most switchers need, because it adds multi-state payroll, time tracking and scheduling. My full Gusto review covers the payroll side.
For payroll on its own, see my Gusto pricing guide.
Where Gusto may be better
- Payroll prices printed on all three plans
- Multi-state payroll on Plus
Where BambooHR may be better
- BambooHR Pro: 360º review cycles and 1:1s
- BambooHR: applicant tracking on every plan
At 10 employees, Plus costs $80 + 10 x $12 = $200 a month with payroll included; BambooHR Core costs $250 before its payroll quote.

- Simple: $49/mo + $6/mo per person, payroll in one state
- Premium: $180/mo + $22/mo per person, adds HR guidance
Sources: Gusto pricing, checked October 2026.
Pros
- Payroll price visible before a sales call
- Multi-state payroll on Plus
- No Gusto fee on Gusto-brokered health plans
Cons
- No performance module
- Simple runs payroll in one state
- Custom admin roles only on Premium
Gusto asks for your EIN, team addresses, salaries and any payroll taxes already filed this year. Plan to rebuild time-off policies and onboarding checklists unless Gusto confirms an import.
- Skip it if:
- your managers run 360 reviews in BambooHR Pro; TalentHR Premium lists 360° performance feedback at $4 per user per month, with a 15-user minimum.
2. Deel HR: Best BambooHR Alternative for Low-Cost Core HR

- Best for: teams under 25 that need records, time off and approvals
- Comparable plan: Core, from $5 per employee per month
- Replaces: BambooHR Core; recruiting is an add-on
For a small team that only needs core HR, Deel HR removes BambooHR’s flat fee. At 25 employees, Core costs 25 x $5 = $125 a month for profiles, org chart, time off, workflows and people analytics. The catch: the Deel HR page prices neither Advanced nor Elite, where performance and compensation sit.
The wider platform is the second reason to pick it. A US PEO from $125 per PEO employee per month and EOR from $599 run on the same worker profile, so a team that hires abroad later keeps one system.
Where Deel HR may be better
- No flat fee below 25 employees
- PEO and EOR on the same worker profile
Where BambooHR may be better
- BambooHR: Pro and Elite prices published
- BambooHR Core: 5 job openings included
At 40 employees, Core costs 40 x $5 = $200 a month, against 40 x $10.25 = $410 on BambooHR Core.

- Core: from $5 per employee per month
- Advanced and Elite: not priced on the Deel HR page
Sources: Deel HR, Deel pricing, checked October 2026.
Pros
- Lower Core price at every headcount
- An onboarding manager maps your fields
- PEO and EOR without a second system
Cons
- Upper tiers not priced on the Deel HR page
- Recruiting costs extra
- A global focus a US-only team may not use
Deel’s path is to export from your current system, let Deel map the fields, and review profiles and time-off policies with an onboarding manager.
- Skip it if:
- you want performance reviews priced up front; Sage HR adds Performance at $3.00 per employee per month.
3. HiBob: Best BambooHR Alternative for Mid-Size Companies Planning Pay and Headcount

- Best for: mid-size companies running pay cycles and headcount plans
- Comparable plan: Core plus modules, by quote
- Replaces: BambooHR Pro or Elite, with US payroll
For a company already using BambooHR Elite’s compensation tools, HiBob is the step up that adds headcount planning beside them. It lists compensation cycle workflows, pay bands, workforce scenario planning and US payroll. The cost is opacity: no figure to set against BambooHR’s printed prices.
Both vendors use Mercer pay data: BambooHR builds it into Elite, and HiBob sells Compensation Benchmarking Powered by Mercer as a module. HiBob says 5,500+ companies use Bob.
Where HiBob may be better
- Workforce scenario and headcount planning
- US and UK payroll in the platform
Where BambooHR may be better
- BambooHR: per-employee prices printed for every plan
- BambooHR: Mercer benchmarks built into Elite
HiBob’s pricing page is a demo request form. Ask for a quote with the modules you use in BambooHR, then compare it with 40 x $25 = $1,000 a month on Elite at 40 employees.

- HiBob: quote by module (Core, Compensation, Payroll Hub, Workforce Planning and others)
Sources: HiBob pricing, BambooHR pricing, checked October 2026.
Pros
- Headcount planning beside compensation cycles
- Performance review and calibration in the platform
- US and UK payroll
Cons
- No published price
- A demo comes before any number
- Mercer benchmarking is a separate module
Export employee records and compensation history from BambooHR, then ask HiBob which fields import and whether review history moves.
- Skip it if:
- you need a price before a sales call; Sage HR and Deel HR print theirs.
4. Rippling: Best BambooHR Alternative for HR, Payroll and IT in One System

- Best for: companies that issue devices and app access at onboarding
- Comparable plan: from $8 per employee per month plus a base fee
- Replaces: BambooHR plus payroll and IT tools
Rippling earns its place when HR is only half of onboarding. Its IT product manages identity, access and devices on the same data that runs HR and payroll, none of which BambooHR’s plans list. The trade-off is price clarity: the monthly base fee is not published.
Its HR product includes recruiting, performance and an LMS, so a BambooHR Pro customer keeps reviews. Rippling says you can switch at any time, including mid-year.
Where Rippling may be better
- Identity, access and device management
- Mid-year payroll switch with year-to-date data
Where BambooHR may be better
- The full HR price is published
- One HR purchase, no product bundle
Rippling’s only public figure is the $8 floor: 40 employees cost at least 40 x $8 = $320 a month before the base fee.

- Rippling: the $8 per employee floor, with the base fee set in your quote
Sources: Rippling pricing, BambooHR pricing, checked October 2026.
Pros
- HR, payroll and IT share one record
- Performance and LMS in the HR product
- 6 free months for eligible US VC-backed startups
Cons
- Base fee not published
- Total depends on the products picked
- More to configure than HR-only software
HR records still leave BambooHR through reports or the API, and workflows and app connections are rebuilt in Rippling.
- Skip it if:
- you only need records and time off; Deel HR covers that from $5 per employee per month.
5. Justworks: Best BambooHR Alternative for Benefits Through a PEO

- Best for: small US teams that want benefits through a PEO
- Comparable plan: PEO Plus, $124 per employee per month
- Replaces: BambooHR Core plus Payroll and Benefits Administration
A team that wants benefits run by a PEO, not an add-on module, should start with Justworks. PEO Plus administers medical, dental and vision, with payroll and 24/7 support. The trade-off sits on the cheaper Payroll plan, which lists no org chart or custom reporting.
PEO Basic at $79 per employee per month already includes 24/7 support, 401(k) and an applicant tracking system. Justworks charges no implementation fee.
Where Justworks may be better
- Medical, dental and vision administration on PEO Plus
- 24/7 support on PEO plans
Where BambooHR may be better
- BambooHR: performance reviews on Pro
- BambooHR: custom reports on Core
At 10 employees, PEO Plus costs 10 x $124 = $1,240 a month and Payroll costs $50 + 10 x $8 = $130. Set PEO Plus against BambooHR Core plus its Payroll and Benefits Administration quotes.

- Payroll: $8/month per employee + $50/month base fee
- PEO Basic: $79/month per employee, no base fee
Sources: Justworks pricing, checked October 2026.
Pros
- Benefits administration in one per-employee price
- No implementation fee
- 24/7 support on PEO plans
Cons
- Payroll plan lacks org chart and custom reporting
- No performance module listed
- PEO Plus is a large step up from Payroll
Export records and benefit elections from BambooHR first, then ask Justworks which of them it imports and how plans move before your renewal.
- Skip it if:
- you already have a benefits broker; Gusto connects it for $6 a month per eligible employee.
6. Paycor: Best BambooHR Alternative for Payroll-Led HR Under 50 Employees

- Best for: companies under 50 employees that want payroll-led HR
- Comparable plan: Basic, Essential, Core or Complete, by quote
- Replaces: BambooHR Core plus Payroll
Paycor fits a business that treats HR as an extension of payroll. Its four plans for companies under 50 employees run from payroll and tax service to a dedicated HR business partner. The drawback against BambooHR is plain: no price is published.
Time + Scheduling, Benefits Admin and Recruiting are add-ons, close to BambooHR’s own model, and Paycor lists 140+ APIs.
Where Paycor may be better
- Plans sized for under 50 employees, payroll included
- 140+ APIs for custom connections
Where BambooHR may be better
- BambooHR: HR prices published
- BambooHR: 360º review cycles on Pro
Paycor lists no amounts and advertises 50% off for 6 months for new customers, so ask for the regular price too.

- Paycor: price from sales, by phone or meeting
Sources: Paycor small-business pricing, checked October 2026.
Pros
- Payroll and tax service on the plan list
- HR business partner on the plan list
- 140+ APIs
Cons
- No published price
- A promotion clouds the first months
- Time, benefits and recruiting sold as add-ons
Ask Paycor’s sales team which records and time-off balances it imports from an HR system.
- Skip it if:
- you want a price before talking to sales; Gusto prints payroll and HR together.
7. Sage HR: Best BambooHR Alternative for Pay-Per-Module HR up to 250 Employees

- Best for: companies with up to 250 employees that want to pay per module
- Comparable plan: Core HR + Leave $6.00 plus Performance $3.00 per employee/mo
- Replaces: BambooHR Core or Pro, without payroll
Paying only for the HR modules you use is Sage HR’s answer to BambooHR’s bundles. A 20-person team with reviews pays 20 x $6.00 + 20 x $3.00 = $180 a month, against $425 flat for BambooHR Pro. Sage labels the price indicative and excludes tax.

Recruitment is optional at $200 a month, where BambooHR bundles applicant tracking into every plan. In some modules, Sage lets you pay only for the employees who use that module.
Where Sage HR may be better
- Pay per module
- 30-day trial with no payment details
Where BambooHR may be better
- BambooHR: payroll add-on in the same platform
- BambooHR: 150+ integration partners
At 40 employees, Core HR + Leave costs 40 x $6.00 = $240 a month.
- Timesheets and Shift Scheduling: $3.00 per employee per month each
- Expenses: $1.50 per employee per month
Sources: Sage HR pricing, checked October 2026.
Pros
- Core HR from $6.00 per employee
- Performance adds $3.00, not a plan jump
- 30-day trial without a card
Cons
- Price labelled indicative
- Recruitment costs $200 a month
- No payroll on the price list
Use the trial with a sample BambooHR export: load a few records and recreate one time-off policy.
- Skip it if:
- you want payroll in the same platform; Gusto or Paycor run it.
8. Factorial: Best BambooHR Alternative for HR With Time, Expenses and IT Modules

- Best for: HR, time tracking and expenses on one plan
- Comparable plan: from $8 per user per month
- Replaces: BambooHR plus its Time & Attendance add-on
Factorial suits a company that wants HR plus time tracking and expenses in one tailored plan. Modules include Time Tracking with geolocation, Shift Management, Expenses with receipt OCR and IT device management. The weak point is comparison: only the starting price is public.

Factorial Core covers the directory, onboarding, payslip distribution and e-signature, but payslip distribution is not payroll processing. Its device management overlaps Rippling’s, and neither publishes a full price.
Where Factorial may be better
- Time, shifts and expenses in one plan
- IT inventory and device management modules
Where BambooHR may be better
- BambooHR: printed per-employee prices
- BambooHR: job posting on Core
At the $8 starting rate, 40 users cost 40 x $8 = $320 a month before modules raise it.
- Factorial: from $8 per user per month, tailored quote
Sources: Factorial pricing, checked October 2026.
Pros
- Geolocation and QR time tracking
- OCR receipt reading for expenses
- Device management without another tool
Cons
- Only a starting price published
- No payroll processing
- Recruitment priced as a module
During the quote, ask Factorial which exported BambooHR fields it maps and whether time-off balances carry over.
- Skip it if:
- you want US payroll in the platform; Gusto or Justworks run it.
9. Connecteam: Best BambooHR Alternative for Hourly and Deskless Teams

- Best for: hourly, shift and field teams
- Comparable plan: HR & Skills Advanced, $49/mo for 30 users, billed yearly
- Replaces: part of BambooHR; no payroll
Staff who work shifts away from a desk are the reason Connecteam is on this list, though it replaces only part of BambooHR. Its free Small Business Plan covers all hubs for up to 10 users, and the HR & Skills hub handles time off, documents, onboarding, hiring and an org chart. It replaces neither payroll nor performance reviews.
The Operations Hub’s time clock adds GPS clock-in, job scheduling and a payroll integration, where BambooHR needs its Time & Attendance add-on.
Where Connecteam may be better
- Free for up to 10 users
- GPS time clock and scheduling
Where BambooHR may be better
- BambooHR: payroll add-on
- BambooHR: performance reviews on Pro
Past 10 users, Advanced costs $49 a month for the first 30 users on yearly billing, plus $1.5 per extra user. With 10 users beyond the first 30, the HR hub costs $49 + 10 x $1.5 = $64 a month.
That covers the HR hub only: the GPS time clock sits in the Operations Hub, whose Basic plan costs $29 a month for the first 30 users, billed yearly, plus $0.8 per extra user.

- HR & Skills Basic: $29/mo for the first 30 users, billed yearly
- HR & Skills Expert: $99/mo for the first 30 users, billed yearly, with API access
Sources: Connecteam pricing, checked October 2026.
Pros
- Free plan for up to 10 users
- GPS time clock with payroll integration
- API access on Expert
Cons
- No payroll
- No performance reviews in the HR hub
- Time clock priced in a separate hub
Export your crew list from BambooHR, load it during Connecteam’s 14-day trial and confirm your payroll provider integrates.
- Skip it if:
- your staff are salaried office workers who need reviews; Sage HR adds Performance for $3.00 per employee.
10. TalentHR: Best BambooHR Alternative for Teams of 10 or Fewer

- Best for: companies with 10 or fewer employees
- Comparable plan: Free, $0 for up to 10 users
- Replaces: BambooHR Core’s records, time off and onboarding
TalentHR removes BambooHR’s flat fee entirely for a company of 10 or fewer: the Free plan covers core HR for up to 10 users with no time limit. The employee database, time off, onboarding and an applicant tracker are included. The trap is growth.
An 11-person company moving to Essential pays for 15 users: 15 x $2 = $30 a month. Plan that jump before the eleventh hire. Premium adds performance reviews, goals, time tracking and document signing.
Where TalentHR may be better
- Free for up to 10 users
- Performance reviews at $4 per user per month on Premium, against $17.50 on BambooHR Pro above 25
Where BambooHR may be better
- BambooHR: payroll add-on
- BambooHR: compensation planning on Elite
At 40 employees, Premium costs 40 x $4 = $160 a month, against 40 x $17.50 = $700 on BambooHR Pro.

- Essential: $2 per user per month, 15-user minimum
- Premium: $4 per user per month, 14-day free trial
Sources: TalentHR pricing, BambooHR pricing, checked October 2026.
Pros
- Applicant tracker in the free tier
- CSV and Google Workspace import
- One-business-day email support guarantee
Cons
- 15-user minimum on paid plans
- No payroll
- Short integration list
Export your BambooHR directory as a report, then map its columns to TalentHR’s fields in the CSV import.
- Skip it if:
- you will pass 10 employees soon and want payroll too; Gusto Simple runs both.
11. Zoho People: Best BambooHR Alternative for Teams Already on Zoho

- Best for: businesses already on Zoho apps
- Comparable plan: Premium, US$3 per user per month, billed annually
- Replaces: BambooHR Core or Pro; payroll through Zoho Payroll
For a business already running Zoho apps, Zoho People adds HR at a low per-user price. It integrates with Zoho Payroll, Zoho Expense and Zoho Recruit, and Premium adds performance and compensation management. The trade-off is reach: BambooHR lists 150+ integration partners, while Zoho People’s homepage names a short list.
The free edition stays free for up to 5 users, and the 30-day trial falls back to that Free plan rather than a bill.
Where Zoho People may be better
- Free edition for up to 5 users
- Native links to Zoho Payroll, Expense and Recruit
Where BambooHR may be better
- BambooHR: 150+ integration partners
- BambooHR: 5 to 50 job openings, by plan
Zoho prints US$ amounts and adds local taxes (VAT, GST and similar) on top. On annual billing, 40 users on Premium cost 40 x US$3 = US$120 a month.

- Essential HR: US$1.25 per user per month billed annually, US$1.50 billed monthly
- Enterprise: US$4.50 per user per month billed annually, US$5 billed monthly
Sources: Zoho People pricing, checked October 2026.
Pros
- Free edition for up to 5 users
- Performance and compensation on Premium
- Trial falls back to Free
Cons
- Local taxes on top
- Short third-party integration list
- Payroll needs another Zoho product
Run the 30-day trial with an exported sample of records and one leave policy.
- Skip it if:
- your ATS, LMS and payroll already connect to BambooHR; stay, because rebuilding those links can outweigh the saving.
When Should You Stick With BambooHR?
Stay when BambooHR already does the job: integrations your tools depend on, Pro’s flat fee for 20 to 25 people, or Elite’s pay cycles.
At 25 employees, Pro works out to $425 / 25 employees = $17 per employee. Sage HR’s Core HR + Leave and Performance would cost 25 x $6.00 + 25 x $3.00 = $225, but Pro also bundles the employee community, recognition and rewards, and 15 compliance courses.
Elite adds compensation planning, Mercer salary benchmarks, levels and bands, and HR benchmarks. Among the picks, HiBob also lists pay bands and sells Mercer benchmarking as a module, but without a public price. Month-to-month terms and 15% off for registered nonprofits also help.
If you are staying with BambooHR, see my BambooHR pricing guide.
Consider switching if
- You have 25 or fewer employees and pay the flat fee for records and time off
- You want payroll on a published bill
- Devices and app access must follow HR onboarding
Consider staying with BambooHR if
- Your ATS, LMS or payroll connects through its Marketplace
- 20 to 25 employees use Pro’s review cycles
- You run compensation cycles with Elite’s Mercer benchmarks

What 10 and 40 employees pay on BambooHR and the alternatives
These are list prices; BambooHR’s automatic volume discounts can lower its 40-employee figures.

|---|---|---|---|
| BambooHR Core | $250 flat | 40 x $10.25 = $410 | No (quote) |
| BambooHR Pro | $425 flat | 40 x $17.50 = $700 | No (quote) |
| Gusto Plus | $80 + 10 x $12 = $200 | $80 + 40 x $12 = $560 | Yes |
| Justworks Payroll | $50 + 10 x $8 = $130 | $50 + 40 x $8 = $370 | Yes |
| Deel HR Core | 10 x $5 = $50 | 40 x $5 = $200 | No |
| Sage HR Core + Performance | 10 x $6.00 + 10 x $3.00 = $90 | 40 x $6.00 + 40 x $3.00 = $360 | No |
| Zoho People Premium, billed annually | 10 x US$3 = US$30 | 40 x US$3 = US$120 | No |
| TalentHR | Free: $0 | Premium: 40 x $4 = $160 | No |
| Connecteam HR & Skills, billed yearly (HR hub only, time clock extra) | Free: $0 | Advanced: $49 + 10 x $1.5 = $64 | No |

For a payroll buyer, the fair test at 40 employees is Gusto Plus at $560 against BambooHR Core plus a payroll quote.
Migrating From BambooHR: What to Consider
Moving off BambooHR starts with getting your data out through custom reports or its REST API, which can generate reports in several formats.
- Export from BambooHR. Pull employee records, job and pay history, and time-off balances. API access runs on a per-user key, and that user’s permissions decide which fields it reads.
- Check the import. Deel offers a readiness checklist and a migration team; Rippling imports year-to-date payroll. For the others, ask which fields map.
- Reconnect integrations. List every Marketplace connection (payroll, performance, ATS, time tracking, learning, benefits) and confirm each exists on the new platform.
- Rebuild what does not move. Expect to recreate time-off policies, workflows, onboarding checklists and reports unless the vendor confirms an import.
- Trial with sample data. Sage HR and Zoho People offer 30 days; TalentHR and Connecteam offer 14.
- Cut over on a payroll boundary. Freeze changes in BambooHR for that window and keep the final export as your rollback.
- Cancel under BambooHR’s terms. Month-to-month ends on the last day of the month you cancel; an extended term is non-cancelable, and fees for the rest of it stay due.
Renewal timing
BambooHR can change your price for the next renewal term with at least 60 days’ notice. Start the move before that window so a renewal price never sets your timing.
How I Evaluated the Alternatives
I judged each tool against BambooHR on cost at your headcount, payroll in the price, HR depth, benefits access, workforce fit and migration help. The ranking rests on official documentation and pricing pages, checked October 2026.
BambooHR competes with the HR platforms ranked here, among them Gusto, Rippling, HiBob, Paycor, Deel HR and Zoho People. Workday and Paylocity, listed under Also Considered, are rivals too, but they stay outside the numbered list.
The numbering follows the reasons for leaving in Why Look (payroll, price, pay planning, IT, benefits, then narrower fits), not a cost rank; the cost table above gives that.
Two must-haves came before ranking: a US-dollar price or US quote path, and a replacement for BambooHR’s employee record and time off, or a plain statement of what is not replaced. The tools under Also Considered stay outside the numbered list for the reasons given there. No pick carries a score.
Also Considered
- Workday: an enterprise HR, finance and IT platform with no price on its homepage.
- Paylocity: its homepage shows no price to compare.
- Personio: its pricing page prints euro prices only and targets companies with 10 to 10,000 employees.
- Employment Hero: it serves Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Singapore and Malaysia.
- Plumm: a UK HR, payroll and wellbeing platform.
Final Verdict
Leave BambooHR for a problem it does not solve, not for a lower sticker price. Pick Gusto for payroll on one published bill, Deel HR for low-cost core HR, Justworks for benefits through a PEO and Connecteam for hourly crews.
HiBob fits mid-size pay and headcount planning, and Rippling fits HR plus IT. Stay with BambooHR when its integrations, Pro’s flat fee or Elite’s compensation tools already do the work.
The biggest trade-off of the move is price visibility: HiBob and Paycor print no price, Rippling keeps its base fee in the quote, and Deel HR’s page prices only Core. Price your exact headcount and run a trial with your own export before you give notice.
