The best AI SEO tools split by SEO job: Semrush for keyword research plus AI visibility, Surfer for content optimization, Alli AI for technical fixes and Writesonic for GEO tracking. For the plan that does each job, prices run from $29 to $299 a month, checked October 2026.
This list is for US in-house marketers, SEO leads and small agencies choosing one tool or a two-tool stack. The deciding factor is which AI engines, and how many prompts, the affordable plan tracks. I built the ranking from each vendor’s pricing and product pages, read on October 26, 2026.
Quick verdict
Pick by the job first. For research, Semrush Starter pairs keyword tools with 50 prompts tracked daily, SE Ranking Core is the cheaper suite with 100 daily prompts, and Ahrefs fits competitor research at index scale.
For content, Surfer fits a writer optimizing drafts, Clearscope a team with many editors, and Frase one person running the whole loop.
For technical work, Alli AI ships fixes through a snippet; Search Atlas pools content, rank checks and local work into one credit balance. For AI visibility, Writesonic ties tracking to fixes, Wellows tracks five engines cheaply, Rankability suits agencies and Profound enterprises.
The trade-off: Semrush Starter tracks 50 prompts a day and Rankability Starter 100 AI queries, so match the allowance to your prompt list before you pick.

Which AI SEO Tool Fits Each SEO Job?
An AI SEO tool is SEO software that uses AI for keyword research, content optimization, technical fixes or tracking how a brand appears in AI answers. Most buyers need one of four jobs done, and the picks split cleanly along them:
| SEO job | What it changes for the team | Picks |
|---|---|---|
| Keyword research and all-in-one | One login for rankings, competitors, audits and AI prompts | Semrush, Ahrefs, SE Ranking |
| Content optimization | Writing guidance aimed at search results and AI answers | Surfer, Clearscope, Frase |
| Technical SEO and automation | Fixes deployed without code changes (Alli AI), or audits and publishing from one credit pool (Search Atlas) | Alli AI, Search Atlas |
| AI search visibility (GEO) | Prompts run on AI engines, with mentions and citations recorded | Writesonic, Rankability, Wellows, Profound |
How I Chose the Best AI SEO Tools
Every tool had to pass two must-haves: a published self-serve price or a way to test the tool first, and a feature for one of the four SEO jobs. I then ranked on job fit, AI engines and prompts at the plan you would buy, and classic SEO limits.
The last criteria were that plan’s price and billing, seats for three people, and data access (Search Console, CMS, API or MCP). The evidence is each vendor’s pricing and product pages, read on October 26, 2026. The tools that missed the cut are under Also Considered.
| Software | Keyword and rank data | Content optimization | Technical audit or fixes | AI visibility tracking | API or MCP |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Semrush | SEO | Pro+ | SEO | SEO (50 prompts a day from Starter) | Starter (MCP) |
| Ahrefs | Lite | Content Kit add-on | Lite | Lite | Lite |

Data accuracy for your niche and the stability of AI visibility readings depend on your own keywords and prompts. Run the same set of keywords and prompts through the free plans or trials of your top two, and compare them with your Search Console data before you pay.
1. Semrush: Best for Keyword Research Plus AI Visibility in One Plan

- Starting price: SEO plan, $139.95 a month billed monthly
- Plan for this job: Starter (SEO + AI Search)
- Free plan or trial: Free plan with 10 reports per day; a 7-day Semrush One trial for new users
- AI engines named: ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews
Semrush makes the most sense when one person owns both classic SEO and the brand’s place in AI answers. Starter, not the cheaper SEO plan, is the one to buy: it adds 50 prompts tracked daily to the keyword and competitor tools. The catch is that content optimization waits for Pro+.
Starter tracks 500 keywords daily across 5 websites, the research half of a content plan without a second subscription. A site with several product lines fills that quickly.
The AI side sits on the same login, with 1 domain for AI brand performance; Semrush says it monitors 239M+ LLM prompts globally. That suits a marketer reporting rankings and AI mentions to one manager, but not someone watching several brands.

MCP access on Starter lets you chat with Semrush data in ChatGPT and Claude, by Semrush’s account. Its content-writing side belongs with my ranking of AI tools for content creation.
Against Ahrefs, Semrush gives more custom prompts at entry: 50 a day versus 5 on one platform in Ahrefs Lite. SE Ranking Core tracks more prompts for less, but names its engines only through the +$89 AI Search add-on ($129 + $89 = $218 a month), more than Starter’s $199.
The SEO plan is the classic toolkit, so the price that matters is Starter’s: $199 a month billed monthly or $165.17 a month billed annually. Extra users start at $45 a month, and the $10-a-month Base Report holds the Google Analytics and Search Console integrations.

| Plan | Price | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0/mo, no credit card | 1 demo project, 10 reports per day |
| SEO | $139.95/mo monthly; $117.33/mo annually | 5 websites, 500 keywords |
| Starter | $199/mo monthly; $165.17/mo annually | 50 prompts daily, 1 AI domain |
| Pro+ | $299/mo monthly; $248.17/mo annually | 1,500 keywords, 100 prompts daily |
Sources: Semrush pricing page, monthly and annual views, checked October 2026.
Pros
- Starter pairs 500 daily-tracked keywords with 50 daily AI prompts
- MCP access on Starter lets ChatGPT or Claude query Semrush data
- A free plan with 10 reports a day lets you check its data first
Cons
- Content optimization and cannibalization analysis start on Pro+
- Starter covers 1 domain for AI brand performance
- Google Analytics and Search Console sit in a paid report add-on
Semrush Starter is the right buy when your prompt list fits in 50.
- Skip it if:
- you only need on-page guidance while writing (Surfer fits that job), or AI tracking on the smallest budget (Wellows).
2. Ahrefs: Best for Competitor Research and AI Brand Mentions at Scale

- Starting price: Starter, $29 a month; Lite, the research plan, $129 a month billed monthly
- Free plan or trial: no trials; Ahrefs Free gives limited Site Explorer and Site Audit access for your own site
- Standout feature: Brand Radar’s index of 505 million+ prompts
Ahrefs earns its place for the researcher who studies competitors’ sites and wants to see AI mentions without writing a prompt list first. Brand Radar runs 505 million+ prompts, by Ahrefs’ count, across six AI platforms. The weak spot is custom tracking at entry: Lite’s 150 monthly checks cover 5 prompts on one platform.
Ahrefs splits AI tracking in two, and the split decides what you pay. The AI Visibility Index shows where a market gets mentioned across AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot. Custom prompts answer your buyer’s exact question, billed per check.

That makes custom tracking a volume purchase: Ahrefs’ own example puts 80 daily prompts on one platform in the $50 Basic package. Semrush Starter folds its 50 daily prompts into the plan price instead.
Lite holds the classic research tools: Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer, Rank Tracker and Site Audit, plus API and MCP access. Rank Tracker updates weekly on every plan, which suits monthly reporting better than daily rank watching.
Content optimization is the Content Kit add-on (AI Content Helper and AI Content Grader), so a team that wants Ahrefs data and an editor pays twice.
Lite costs $129 a month billed monthly or $1,290 a year on annual billing, and Ahrefs says it never runs discounts. Lite includes one user, with up to 2 more at $40 a month each, so a three-person team pays for seats from day one.

| Plan | Price | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $29/mo | Search and competitor lookups |
| Lite | $129/mo monthly; $108/mo annually ($1,290/ | 750 keywords, 5 AI prompts, 1 user |
| Standard | $249/mo monthly; $208/mo annually ($2,490/ | 2,000 keywords, 10 AI prompts |
| Advanced | $449/mo monthly; $374/mo annually ($4,490/ | 5,000 keywords, 20 AI prompts |
| Brand Radar AI | From $199/ | 505 million+ prompt index |
| Custom prompt packages | $50, $100 or $250/ | +2,500 to +25,000 checks a month |
Sources: Ahrefs pricing page, monthly and annual views, and Ahrefs Brand Radar page, checked October 2026.
Pros
- Brand Radar shows AI mentions across six platforms with no prompt setup
- API and MCP access on Lite and every plan above it
- Brand Radar is sold standalone with an Ahrefs Free account
Cons
- Lite’s 150 checks a month cover only 5 prompts on one platform
- No free trial before paying
- The content editor is a separate add-on from $99 a month
- Skip it if:
- you need daily custom prompt tracking at entry (SE Ranking Core tracks 100 a day), or you want a trial before paying (SE Ranking offers 14 days).
3. SE Ranking: Best for Budget All-in-One SEO and GEO Tracking

- Starting price: Core, $129 a month billed monthly
- Free plan or trial: 14-day free trial, no credit card
- Integrations: Data Studio, Matomo, GA and GSC, plus MCP
SE Ranking is the suite I would shortlist first on a tight budget. Core tracks 100 prompts daily, twice Semrush Starter’s 50, for $70 less a month ($199 – $129 = $70). The catch is people: Core includes one manager seat, and SE Ranking allows one active session per login.
Core’s GEO tracking runs on 5 LLMs that the pricing page does not name. For named engines, the AI Search add-on adds an AI Results Tracker for AI Overviews, AI Mode and ChatGPT. A team whose buyers search Google first should budget for that add-on from day one.

The audit allowance suits a large catalog: Core includes 250k audit pages a month, and MCP access lets an assistant query SE Ranking’s data directly. Annual billing adds free assisted migration. Core tracks 100 prompts a day, while Ahrefs’ Custom Prompts cover 5, 10 or 20 a day on Lite, Standard and Advanced.
Core costs $129 a month on monthly billing, or $103.20 a month on annual billing, which is billed upfront. Extra manager seats start at $16.

| Plan | Price | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Core | $129/mo monthly; $103.20/mo annually | 1 manager seat, 2k keywords, 100 prompts daily |
| Growth | $279/mo monthly; $223.20/mo annually | 3 manager seats, 5k keywords, 250 prompts daily |
| AI Search add-on | +$89/mo monthly; +$71.20/mo annually | 200 prompts on AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT |
Sources: SE Ranking pricing page, monthly and annual views, checked October 2026.
Pros
- Daily prompt and keyword tracking on the entry plan
- Free assisted migration on annual billing
- 14-day trial without a credit card
Cons
- One manager seat and one active session per login on Core
- The LLMs Core tracks are not named on the pricing page
- AI Overviews and AI Mode tracking sit in a paid add-on
- Skip it if:
- your main job is writing and optimizing drafts (Surfer fits better), or several people must work in the tool at once on the entry plan (Rankability includes unlimited team members).
4. Surfer: Best for Writers Optimizing Drafts for Google and AI Answers

- Starting price: Discovery, $59 a month billed monthly
- Plan for this job: Standard
- Free plan or trial: “Start for Free” on every plan; trial terms are not printed on the pricing page
- Integrations: WordPress, Google Docs, Contentful, Zapier; MCP
Surfer belongs in the draft, not the research phase. Its Content Editor gives live guidelines and a Content Score while a writer works, and Standard adds 1-click content optimization and 3 team seats. Its AI tracking is thin, though: 25 prompts on ChatGPT, refreshed weekly.
The editor is where Surfer SEO earns its fee. Surfer says its live guidelines help write content “rewarded both in SERPs and AI chats”. Clearscope gives similar guidance and tracks ChatGPT and Gemini; Surfer Pro tracks 50 prompts daily on five engines and adds 1-click internal linking.
Pro tracks 50 prompts daily across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overview and Gemini. A team that only wants tracking can buy AI Search Analytics, with the same 50 daily prompts and no document allowance.
Billing changes when documents arrive, not how many. Standard holds 360 documents on yearly billing, with credits that reset yearly, and 30 on monthly billing. The yearly pool suits a team that publishes in bursts.
Standard costs $119 a month on monthly billing or $99 a month billed yearly, paid upfront for the year. Daily tracking on five engines means Pro, at $219 a month monthly or $182 a month billed yearly.

| Plan | Price | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Discovery | $59/mo monthly; $49/mo yearly | 1 seat, no AI prompts |
| Standard | $119/mo monthly; $99/mo yearly | 3 seats, 25 ChatGPT prompts weekly |
| Pro | $219/mo monthly; $182/mo yearly | 5 seats, 50 prompts daily on 5 engines |
| Peace of Mind | $359/mo monthly; $299/mo yearly | 10 seats, 100 prompts daily, API |
| AI Search Analytics | $95/mo monthly; $82/mo yearly | Tracking only, 50 prompts daily |
Sources: Surfer pricing page, monthly and yearly views, checked October 2026.
Pros
- Content Score and live guidelines inside the editor
- WordPress and Google Docs integrations for in-place optimization
- Content Audit flags ranking drops for refresh work
Cons
- Standard tracks ChatGPT only, and only weekly
- Yearly billing is charged upfront for the whole year
- Internal linking and the cannibalization report start on Pro
Surfer is my pick when writers own the optimization step themselves.
- Skip it if:
- many reviewers must share one plan (Clearscope includes unlimited users), or one person wants to draft and publish on a smaller budget (Frase Starter, $49 a month billed month to month).
5. Clearscope: Best for Content Teams That Need Unlimited Users

- Starting price: Essentials, $129 a month
- Free plan or trial: 14-day free trial; no minimum contract on monthly plans
- AI engines: query tracking across ChatGPT and Gemini
Clearscope removes the seat question: every plan has unlimited users and projects. That makes it the optimizer to buy when ten freelancers and two editors all need access. The limit is volume instead: Essentials stops at 50 tracked queries and 50 pages.
Surfer Standard, by contrast, stops at 3 team seats.
The AI side is narrower than Surfer Pro’s. Query Tracking follows queries across ChatGPT and Gemini, and query fan-out data shows the web searches AI platforms trigger to build an answer. That turns an AI answer into a list of pages worth writing.
A team past 50 pages buys extra pages or moves to Business. Clearscope’s pricing page lists no integrations, so check your CMS workflow during the trial.
Essentials costs $129 a month and Business $399 a month, both monthly with no minimum contract. Extra pages cost $25 a month on Essentials and $15 a month on Business.

| Plan | Price | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Essentials | $129/ | 50 tracked queries, 50 pages, 20 Drafts |
| Business | $399/ | 300 tracked queries, 300 pages |
| Enterprise | Custom, yearly custom plan, invoiced | SSO, crawler whitelisting |
Sources: Clearscope pricing page, checked October 2026.
Pros
- Unlimited users and projects on every plan
- Query fan-out data shows what AI platforms search for
- Free training, onboarding and priority support on every plan
Cons
- 50 tracked queries and 50 pages on Essentials
- AI tracking names ChatGPT and Gemini only
- No integrations listed on the pricing page
- Skip it if:
- you must track Perplexity or AI Mode (Surfer Pro and Rankability Starter list both), or you audit hundreds of pages a month on a budget (Frase Professional covers 250 audit pages).
6. Frase: Best for a Low-Cost Content Agent That Drafts, Audits and Publishes

- Starting price: Starter, $49 a month, billed month to month
- Free plan or trial: 7-day free trial, no credit card
- Publishing: WordPress, Webflow, Sanity, Wix or FraseCMS
Frase’s price is not the first limit I would worry about; its caps are. Starter runs the whole content loop on one site, from research and draft to audit and publishing. It holds at its monthly limits instead of billing overage, and one seat with 10 articles a month is the ceiling.
The agent can publish on its own when you allow it, removing the copy-paste step between optimizer and CMS. Content Guard watches pages for Google decay and drafts a revision for your approval.
AI Visibility on Starter covers ChatGPT and Google AI. Perplexity joins on Professional, and Claude and Gemini on Scale, so engine coverage is the real reason to move up. Surfer Standard tracks fewer engines but adds team seats.
Frase also runs from Claude, ChatGPT, Codex or Cursor through its MCP server and CLI. If you want a general writer rather than an optimizer, my ranking of AI writing tools matched to the writing job covers that workflow.
Starter costs $39 a month billed yearly or $49 month to month, and yearly billing takes 20% off the monthly rate. Professional, the team plan with 3 seats and 5 sites, is $103 a month billed yearly or $129 month to month, with extra seats at $29 a month.

| Plan | Price | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $39/mo yearly; $49/mo month to month | 1 seat, 1 site, 10 articles, 50 audit pages |
| Professional | $103/mo yearly; $129/mo month to month | 3 seats, 5 sites, 40 articles, 250 audit pages |
| Scale | $239/mo yearly; $299/mo month to month | 5 seats, 10 domains, 100 articles |
Sources: Frase pricing page, checked October 2026.
Pros
- Starter drafts, audits and publishes for one site
- Starter stops at its limits, so no surprise overage bill
- MCP server and CLI on every plan
Cons
- One seat and 10 articles a month on Starter
- Perplexity tracking starts on Professional
- White-label reports are Enterprise only
For one person running one site, Frase ships the work rather than just scoring it.
- Skip it if:
- several writers share the tool (Clearscope’s unlimited users fit), or you need daily keyword rank tracking (SE Ranking).
7. Alli AI: Best for Technical SEO Fixes Without a Developer

- Starting price: Business, $299 a month billed monthly
- Free plan or trial: 10-day free trial on every plan
- Install: WordPress plugin, JavaScript snippet or tag manager
Alli AI solves a specific blocker: SEO fixes that sit in a developer queue. It installs in under an hour, by Alli AI’s account, and deploys optimizations across the site without source-code changes. Business covers 5 sites, and Alli AI labels it for consultants, startups and small teams.
Alli AI lists pre-rendering for 50+ AI crawlers. For a JavaScript-heavy site, that is the difference between AI crawlers reading the content and getting a blank page. LLM Mode shows the version those crawlers receive.
Business adds a weekly crawl with recommendations, so new problems arrive as a list the same install can deploy.
Search Atlas is the closest pick, and the two differ in scope. Alli AI stays on technical fixes and crawler rendering with fixed allowances; Search Atlas adds content, local listings and ads, paid from a shared credit pool.
Business costs $299 a month on monthly billing and Agency $599 a month, which adds API access and white-label snippet hosting. Annual billing saves up to 17%, by Alli AI’s figure.

| Plan | Price | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Business | $299/ | 5 sites, 5 team members, 500 keywords, 1,250 pages |
| Agency | $599/ | 15 sites, 15 team members, API access |
| Enterprise | Request demo, individual | 50 sites, full white-label dashboard |
Sources: Alli AI pricing page, monthly view, checked October 2026.
Pros
- Ships fixes without a code migration or developer ticket
- Pre-rendering for 50+ AI crawlers
- LLM Mode shows what AI crawlers actually receive
Cons
- 1,250 pages on Business, a tight limit for one large site
- API access starts on Agency
- No AI answer tracking listed
- Skip it if:
- you run one small WordPress site (Frase’s page audits or SE Ranking’s site audit cost less), or you want content and local SEO in the same tool (Search Atlas).
8. Search Atlas: Best for Automated On-Page and Local SEO Execution

- Starting price: Starter, $99 a month billed monthly
- Plan for AI visibility: Growth
- Free plan or trial: 7-day trial plus free 1-on-1 onboarding
Search Atlas suits the agency or local business that wants execution, not more reports. OTTO SEO, content tools, Google Business Profile work and rank tracking all draw on one pool of Universal Credits. Starter is the cheapest way in, but it includes 0 LLM visibility queries, so AI visibility starts on Growth.
Universal Credits are the plan’s monthly execution budget. Site audits, content generation, keyword tracking, AI visibility queries and publishing all spend from the same pool. A month light on content can spend more on audits, which fixed-allowance tools such as Alli AI cannot do.
OTTO SEO powers 1 site on Starter, which also manages 3 Google Business Profiles: enough for a single local brand.
Growth adds AI visibility on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode, and Pro adds Copilot, Perplexity and Claude plus white-label dashboards. Every plan publishes to any CMS, including WordPress, Shopify and Webflow.
Starter costs $99 a month billed monthly with 50,000 Universal Credits; Growth, the plan this job needs, is $199 a month with 120,000 credits.

| Plan | Price | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $99/mo billed monthly | 1 project, 1 seat, 0 LLM visibility queries |
| Growth | $199/mo billed monthly | 2 projects, 3 seats, 100 LLM visibility queries |
| Pro | $399/mo billed monthly | 4 projects, 5 seats, 6 AI platforms |
| Agency | From $999/mo billed monthly | 10 projects, 10 seats |
Sources: Search Atlas pricing page, monthly view, checked October 2026.
Pros
- One credit pool across audits, content, rank checks and AI queries
- OTTO SEO and Content Genius on Starter
- Publishes to WordPress, Shopify, Webflow and custom stacks
Cons
- Starter includes no LLM visibility queries
- Perplexity and Claude tracking start on Pro
- A shared pool can run dry in a heavy month
- Skip it if:
- you prefer fixed allowances to a shared credit pool (Alli AI), or you only need AI answer tracking (Wellows).
9. Writesonic: Best for GEO Tracking Tied to Fixes

- Starting price: Starter, $99 per month on monthly billing
- Free plan or trial: free start, no credit card needed
- AI engines on Starter: ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews
Judged as an SEO tool rather than a writer, Writesonic’s case is that tracking and fixing share one plan. Starter tracks 50 prompts daily and adds 10 site audits and 15 AI articles a month. The trade-off is engine reach: plans below Enterprise list the same three engines.
Tracking shows the prompts where competitors get recommended instead of you; the audits and articles are how a team closes those gaps. Starter’s audits cover 100 pages each, enough for a monthly check of a small marketing site.
Sentiment analysis arrives on Growth, with an Action Center trial of 5 off-page and 5 on-page actions a month. A team that wants the tool to say what to fix should price Growth rather than Starter.
Writesonic lists Google Search Console, WordPress, GA4 and Looker Studio integrations. Against Wellows, it tracks fewer engines but adds the site audits Wellows does not list.
The product beyond SEO is covered in my full Writesonic review and my Copy.ai vs Writesonic comparison.
Starter costs $99 per month on monthly billing or $79 a month billed annually, with up to 3 additional users at $50 per user per month. Growth, with 3 users, sentiment analysis and the Action Center trial, is $499 per month on monthly billing or $399 a month billed annually.

| Plan | Price | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $99/mo monthly; $79/mo annually | 50 prompts, 1 user, 1 project |
| Basic | $249/mo monthly; $199/mo annually | 100 prompts, 2 users |
| Growth | $499/mo monthly; $399/mo annually | 200 prompts, 3 users, sentiment |
| Enterprise | Custom, tailored | All 9 platforms, full Action Center |
Sources: Writesonic pricing page, monthly and annual views, checked October 2026.
Pros
- Tracking, site audits and AI articles on the entry plan
- Daily tracking on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews
- Search Console, GA4 and WordPress integrations
Cons
- The same three engines on every plan below Enterprise
- The full Action Center is Enterprise only
- One user and one project on Starter
Buy Writesonic to work on AI visibility, not just watch it.
- Skip it if:
- you must track Perplexity at entry (Rankability Starter covers 11 platforms), or you want tracking alone on a smaller budget (Wellows).
10. Rankability: Best for Agencies With Many Client Workspaces

- Starting price: Starter, $97 a month billed monthly
- Free plan or trial: 7-day free trial, card required
- AI engines: 11 platforms on every paid plan
Rankability prices by how much work an agency delivers, not how many clients it has. Every plan includes unlimited client workspaces and team members, and Starter tracks 100 AI queries daily across 11 platforms. The allowances are shared, though: 50 Google keywords split across every client run out fast.
The list covers Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode plus ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI, Brave AI and Microsoft Copilot. That is the widest engine list among the picks at an entry price.
Delivery is the other half: Starter includes 20 content projects a month, each from research and brief to an AI-assisted draft, plus page and technical audits.
Client reports carry the agency’s logo and pull connected Search Console and Analytics data. Against Wellows, Rankability adds audits and Google keyword tracking and counts a query once across all its platforms, where Wellows spends one answer per engine.
Starter costs $97 a month billed monthly, or $970 a year on annual billing, which Rankability describes as ten monthly payments. The trial needs a card and rolls into the monthly plan after 7 days unless you cancel.

| Plan | Price | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $97/ | 100 AI queries, 50 Google keywords, 20 content projects |
| Agency | $297/ | 300 AI queries, 150 Google keywords |
| Agency Pro | $497/ | 500 AI queries, 250 Google keywords |
Sources: Rankability pricing page, checked October 2026.
Pros
- Unlimited client workspaces and team members on every plan
- 11 AI platforms tracked daily from Starter
- API and MCP access on every plan
Cons
- 50 Google keywords on Starter, shared across clients
- Google rankings update weekly, top 30 results only
- The trial requires a card
- Skip it if:
- you run a single brand (Frase or Surfer fit one site’s content loop), or you need deep keyword tracking (Semrush Starter tracks 500 keywords daily).
11. Wellows: Best for Cheap AI Visibility Tracking With Unlimited Seats

- Starting price: Basic, $29 a month
- Free plan or trial: 7-day free trial on every plan
- Integrations: Google Search Console and a WordPress plugin on every plan
Wellows is the budget tracker of this list: Basic buys 1,800 AI answers a month, enough for 12 prompts on all 5 engines every day. Prompts, projects and seats are unlimited inside that balance. It lists no keyword research or site audit, so it pairs with a suite rather than replacing one.
The balance model changes how you plan. One prompt on one engine for one day spends one answer, so the same balance covers 60 prompts a day on a single engine. A stable project can run weekly while a launch runs daily.
Wellows’ homepage names the five engines as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Overviews and AI Mode. Citation tracking also catches your domain inside cited pages that never name you.
On the action side, Quick Wins ranks changes by impact, and the KIVA agent drafts pages against your Search Console data. When the balance hits zero, collection pauses rather than billing more.
Basic costs $29 a month for 1,800 answers, and Standard $97 a month for 6,500, which covers 43 prompts on all 5 engines daily.

| Plan | Price | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | $29/ | 1,800 answers; 12 prompts on 5 engines daily |
| Standard | $97/ | 6,500 answers; 43 prompts on 5 engines daily |
| Growth | $249/ | 18,000 answers; white-label dashboards |
| Scale | $497/ | 36,000 answers; exports, performance history |

Pros
- Five engines tracked daily on the entry plan
- Citation tracking catches unnamed mentions in cited pages
- Search Console and WordPress on every plan
Cons
- No keyword research or site audit listed
- A heavy month can empty the balance early
- Unused answers do not roll over
- Skip it if:
- you need keyword research in the same tool (SE Ranking Core), or site audits beside tracking on one entry plan (Writesonic Starter).
12. Profound: Best for Enterprise AI Visibility Across Answer Engines

- Starting price: Trial, free for 7 days; Enterprise, custom
- AI engines on Enterprise: up to 9 answer engines
- Security: SSO/SAML and SOC 2 compliance on Enterprise
Profound is built for the enterprise AI search program, where coverage and data access matter more than list price. Enterprise tracks up to 9 answer engines and ties AI-sourced traffic to CDN integrations. The catch is budgeting: the only self-serve plan is a 7-day trial with a fixed prompt set.
The trial runs 50 prompts daily for 7 days on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. Trial users get a recommended prompt set for their industry and cannot customize it. Enterprise adds editable prompts and engines such as Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Claude, DeepSeek, Microsoft Copilot and Exa Search.
Agent Analytics tracks AI-sourced traffic across unlimited domains through CDN and hosting integrations, so a brand team sees which pages AI systems visit.
Enterprise also brings all-time history, CSV and JSON exports and API access. Against Rankability, Profound adds CDN-level analytics and security controls, while Rankability publishes a price a smaller team can budget.
Profound publishes no paid price: the Trial is free and Enterprise is a tailored package.

| Plan | Price | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Trial | Free, 7 days | 50 prompts daily on ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Overviews; no exports |
| Enterprise | Custom, tailored package | Up to 9 engines, API, SSO |

Pros
- Up to 9 answer engines on Enterprise
- Agent Analytics ties AI traffic to Cloudflare, Akamai, Fastly and Vercel
- Unlimited seats on both plans
Cons
- No published paid price
- Trial prompts are fixed and cannot be customized
- The trial lasts 7 days with no exports or history
- Skip it if:
- you need a published price to budget (Rankability and Wellows publish theirs).
What a Three-Person SEO Team Pays Each Month
A three-person team pays from $29 a month (Wellows Basic) to $299 (Alli AI Business) on the fixed-price picks, at monthly billing:
| Software | Plan for 3 people | Monthly cost and math | Billing | What the total leaves out |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Semrush | Starter + 2 users | $199 plus $45 x 2 = $90, which is $289 | Monthly; users “starting at” | Base Report add-on |
| Ahrefs | Lite + 2 users | $129 plus $40 x 2 = $80, which is $209 | Monthly | Brand Radar AI, prompt packages |
| SE Ranking | Core + 2 manager seats | $129 plus $16 x 2 = $32, which is $161 | Monthly; seats “from” | AI Search add-on |
| Surfer | Standard (3 seats included) | $119 | Monthly | Daily AI tracking on Pro |
| Clearscope | Essentials (unlimited users) | $129 | Monthly | Extra page blocks |
| Frase | Professional (3 seats included) | $129 | Month to month | Optional pay-as-you-go |
| Alli AI | Business (5 team members) | $299 | Monthly | API on Agency |
| Search Atlas | Growth (3 seats included) | $199 | Monthly | Perplexity, Copilot and Claude tracking (Pro) |
| Writesonic | Starter + 2 users | $99 + $50 + $50 = $199 | Monthly | Sentiment and Action Center |
| Rankability | Starter (unlimited team members) | $97 | Monthly | Allowances shared across clients |
| Wellows | Basic (unlimited seats) | $29 | Monthly | Keyword and audit tools |
| Profound | Enterprise (unlimited seats) | Custom | Tailored package | No published price |

Ahrefs Lite and SE Ranking Core list the same monthly price for one person. Two extra seats then cost $48 more a month on Ahrefs ($40 + $40 – $16 – $16 = $48). Clearscope and Rankability cost the same for three people as for thirty.
A team that wants AI tools beyond SEO can set these costs against my list of AI tools for small teams.
How to Choose an AI SEO Tool
Choose by the SEO job first, then confirm that the AI engine your buyers use is tracked on the plan you can afford. The rows below match common priorities to a pick:
| Your priority | Pick | Reason | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Keyword research and AI tracking in one plan | Semrush | Starter tracks 500 keywords and 50 prompts daily | Content optimization waits for Pro+ |
| A suite on a fixed budget | SE Ranking | Core tracks 100 prompts daily | One manager seat |
| Writers optimizing drafts | Surfer | Content Score and guidelines in the editor | Weekly ChatGPT-only tracking on Standard |
| Many writers on one plan | Clearscope | Unlimited users on every plan | 50 pages on Essentials |
| No developer time | Alli AI | Deploys fixes through a snippet or plugin | Priced for 5 sites |
| Many agency clients | Rankability | Unlimited client workspaces | Shared keyword allowance |
| Cheapest daily AI tracking | Wellows | Five engines on Basic | No keyword or audit tools |

Which AI Engines Each Entry Plan Tracks (Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity)
The plan you buy, not the product, decides which AI engines you see. Rankability and Wellows track all five on their entry plans; Writesonic’s paid plans below Enterprise cover three, and Search Atlas starts AI tracking on Growth.
| Software | AI Overviews | AI Mode | ChatGPT | Perplexity | Gemini |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Semrush | Named, no plan given | Not listed | Named, no plan given | Not listed | Not listed |

“Not listed” means the vendor’s pages do not name that engine; Semrush refers to “other LLMs” without a list. Alli AI is left out because it renders pages for AI crawlers rather than tracking answers.
Suite, Specialist or Both?
Buy both when the suite’s prompt allowance is smaller than your prompt list. Ahrefs Lite covers 5 prompts and Semrush Starter 50, so a brand watching 80 buyer questions needs a tracker beside its suite.
Rankability Starter’s 100 daily AI queries cover 80; Wellows Standard covers 43 prompts on all 5 engines daily. One SE Ranking Core plan is enough when 100 daily prompts cover the list.
A content team adds an optimizer to its suite: Surfer when writers work alone in Docs, Clearscope when many people share drafts. If SEO is only one job on your list, see AI tools for small business for the wider picture across sales, support, books and admin.
Also Considered
Six more tools fit one of the four jobs but missed the list on a sourced fact:
- Indexly: indexing automation from $99 a month billed monthly; its Starter plan lacks content optimization and CMS integrations.
- MarketMuse: topic inventory and content briefs; every paid plan says “Book a demo” with no published price.
- Otterly AI: AI visibility tracking from $29 a month on 4 engines; Claude, Google AI Mode and Gemini are paid add-ons.
- NEURONwriter: content optimization from $23 a month on Bronze; Search Console and WordPress integrations start on the $69 Gold plan.
- AirOps: a content workflow builder priced by task volume; its Solo plan covers ChatGPT insights only.
- Screaming Frog: a crawler you download, free up to 500 URLs and $279 per licence per year; licences are per user, so each teammate needs one.
FAQ
What is the best AI to use for SEO?
There is no single best AI for SEO; the right one depends on the job. Semrush covers keyword research plus AI tracking, Surfer content optimization, Alli AI technical fixes, and Writesonic AI visibility tied to fixes. For tracking alone, Wellows starts at $29 a month.
Can ChatGPT do SEO?
Paired with an SEO tool, yes: Semrush, Ahrefs, SE Ranking, Frase and Rankability offer MCP access, so an assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude can query their data directly.
Are there free AI SEO tools?
Yes, with tight limits. Semrush Free gives 10 reports a day, Ahrefs Free covers your own site, and Screaming Frog crawls up to 500 URLs free. Trials run 14 days on SE Ranking and Clearscope, 10 on Alli AI and 7 on Frase.
For drafting rather than SEO data, my list of free AI content generators compares the free caps.
Is SEO dead in 2026?
No. AI answers add a channel to measure next to rankings rather than replacing them. That is why every suite on this list now sells AI prompt tracking beside keyword tracking.
Final Verdict
No single tool wins every job, so buy by the job. For keyword research plus AI tracking, Semrush Starter is my pick, SE Ranking Core the budget suite and Ahrefs the competitor-research pick.
For content, choose Surfer when writers optimize their own drafts, Clearscope when a large team shares one plan, and Frase when one person drafts and publishes.
For technical fixes, Alli AI ships changes without a developer and Search Atlas suits credit-based automation across content and local work.
For AI visibility, Writesonic fits a team that fixes what it tracks, Wellows the tightest budget, Rankability an agency and Profound an enterprise program. Run your own keywords and prompts through the trials of your top two before you pay.
